You are right. The first time I clicked on the link all I waited for was confirmation of the address on my explorer bar.

I waited this time and nothing came up when the page finished re-directing, sorry.

What about the sobbing VM 2 days later? If that call really occurred she had to be alive at the time, but clearly in trouble or having second thoughts about something, apologetic for her decision to move on. Most likely in trouble I hate to say, certainly by that point if we assume foul play eventually occurred. It's possible someone else made that call for whatever reason, but unless it was a random misdial why would another woman leave a potential clue like that if she was involved in Maura's disappearance? Actually, just thought of this, could it have been Maura's sister calling to talk to Billy about Maura's disappearance but just breaking down in tears on his VM? Easily confirmed. Seems possible b/c everyone knew Maura was missing by that time and Billy was clearly at the airport for that reason. Maybe she was checking to see if he had gotten to the airport on time, etc. Any thoughts?

I know the call was traced to a (AAA?) calling card, but I'm not convinced that information is accurate. You know how many times my phone bill has said I called Jersey when I actually called someone in Philly? Also, We know Maura had a AAA card, right?

Sorry, Red Cross, not AAA. Less relevant I guess. But still, if that sobbing VM actually existed, do we know it was Maura rather than her sister? I'm not sold on the connection to the calling card just yet. However, if we know that the call happened and the Red Cross connection is real maybe Maura wandered into some clinic before someone else involved in the scenario came and scooped her up...

Does anybody consider the possibility that she was not happy with life, and chose to disappear. If this is not possible in your opinion why not!

Hello all,

I´m returning to the fact that there is just no way for us to safely assume that Maura did in fact venture north in her Saturn...

What if the young lady in the Saturn presumably being seen by the School Bus Driver was a female friend/"helper" of Maura´s (rather than Maura herself), who later was picked up by the driver of the mysterious red truck.

Maura may well have left Amherst, MA, for any kind of destination on February 9th or even the previous day, considering the very inexact timing of the presumed date for the supposed "hockey bag" sighting of Maura on UMass campus.

Could we possibly have been completely fooled into looking at this case from the completely wrong direction?

Goat,

Unfortunately the answer to your question would be a resounding yes.

It's certainly possible, Goat. Maybe she made that last call thru some Red Cross network to say goodbye but couldn't do it. But if so, heck of a stage job. Certainly possible tho.

Good thought, Euro, but to tow or drive the car head-on into some trees or a guardrail in an effort to stage a crash, hard enough to activate the airbags, is either very unlikely or genius. Maura was definitely smart, but I doubt her accomplices in this scenario were ballsy enough to do that. Why not just drive the car into a lake?

Just my opinion: because she had the forms her dad wanted her to get, because she e-mailed professors, because she bothered to pack up dorm stuff in boxes, because her dad was going to get her a new car, and lastly because she had the school books and specific directions in the car. What you think?

don't believe accident is part of staging. no matter who was driving at time of accident, it makes no sense to stage an accident there. If your plan is to disappear you are drawing far to much attention. probable early involvement of pd. whether it was Maura voluntarily disappearing (which is the reality we all hope for.) or it was someone else at the wheel the accident whether or not it was the first accident was a real accident. why would anyone want to draw the attention. leave car in abandoned lot to be found a day or 2 later. plenty of time for get away whether voluntary or not

Packed up her things is questionable, and the new car thing is a con not a pro for the "restart life" theory, b/c it would mean the trade-in of a car possibly involved in a crime and Maura would be freaking about that if the hit & run theory is accurate. But beyond that, she definitely may have checked out. I wonder again about the dogs and the a-frame...

hi Pointer and welcome.the call to Billy Rauschs' cell phone reporetedly was made using an American Red Cross card.He erased the message whether it was recorded by L.E.i dont lnow .He knew within less than 2 days that the call came through an ARC card.I remember something on the old forum about nursing students being isued calling cards .It is way in the back of my noggin but as nurses in training i could see that might be a good idea .As for the car being driven to N.H. to hide or dump it ,thats a real stretch for me.Hiding a car in the winter is much harder and what would Maura say to mrMurray ,oops i misplaced it.Amherst and Mauras prior life has lots to tell.Hopeflully someone from Mauras prior life will have the courage to speak up.I know there are people that will speak they just dont' know where to or they dont want to be the first one.Someone close to Maura told investigators right after feb 09 ,'I dont' want to get her into trouble'.Mauras family knew how troubled she was.It was reported how they had 'worked things out in the past' and how much pressure she was under.Kurt ,Mauras baby brothers' poem speaks volumes to me ,but maybe thats just me. i have to think that all those people from Hanson and her track and field friends just dont know where to post there thoughts.AAA had no calls from Grafton county N.H. on feb 09 2004. i am not suggesting Maura called them i am saying that is just too much of a stretch.Lavoies was and is a AAA towing service and has been since 2000.I am in no way knocking Lvoies there ar other AAA garages in the area but the chances that not one of them got a call when many people were sliding off the road is slim to none.maura told Sharon Rausch she had used her AAA membership twice. we are not allowed to know when she went back to school but maybe it was 10 days prior to her vanishing. She took the saturn home to Bridgeport C.T for christmas Was AAA used then to get the cart back to Amherst and if so why.It was worth almost nothing if it really was as mechanically unsound as we were led to beliieve. They must have ben having some serious trade in deals up in Amherst if they hauled that saturn back.Maura could not have gotten a new car anyway because she was looking at a mimum 60 day license supensoin for driving without insurance. It seems we were told the toyota would be covered by insurance after the MrMurraty spoke with the insurance .That still leaves an uninsured motorist .How did she get out of that accident with mrMurrays toyota. Was she expecting a summons in the mail once officer Ruddock did his paperwork.Lots to tell in Amherst .take care philip

hi sara and all I think she was bailing on her life .she hid her plans from her family ,her saturn was a mobile closet, her room was never unpacked. the forms in the car if she mailed them later would have showed where she was and the emails if they were sent by her bought her more time. these are just my thoughts.take care philip

goat,

I actually think it quite likely that the Saturn actually suffered a real accident at the Weathered Barn and that it was perhaps intended to be driven further into the wilds of the White Mountain National Forest, possibly to be dumped there.

And so Goat, if the accident was a real accident, you think it was then that Maura decided to check out? Taking her books seems to imply either she planned to come come back or even more genius on her part if she actually intended to bail (just to keep us guessing). The possibility of a plan to escape but an even more sinister, random ending for her seems too remote for me. I doubt she'd go to all the trouble of even considering NH if she planned to disappear. So, either someone else planned her demise or she fell victim to life's unfortunate sinkholes.
