Reading between the lines.
You've arrived here with brilliant insight and, if we are to believe, nearly a lifetime of professional skills.
However, this is the first mention of legislation to "change the law" to my knowledge...and very specific to access of SSN history.
It is not clear who you represent...and the generalization from Maura to all missing persons further suggests a tie-in to a greater purpose.

As you state:

...I am wondering if this "legislation" is to effect the ability to determine one's legal status as deceased after a certain amount of time.

Cannot disagree with your statements...however,

Who are you defending here?
Who might be wrongfully accused?
Do you believe LE has been "honest" in their investigation of Maura's disappearance?

Strong and passionate personalities abound here. The range of relationship to Maura is wide, and the subject matter is sensitive, even after a period of years. My sense is that most people here are very aware of the boundaries between humor and offensive humor...and I believe you are very well equipped to spot the difference.

So phone chargers were in fact in the car, which is something I had wondered about. Good to know!
My next thought would be, why was the phone gone, but chargers not? If I took my phone with me, I would definitely take charger. Any thoughts why the chargers were left behind?

If I planned to be away briefly from the car, and the phone was charged, I wouldn't take either with me.

If I planned to be away overnight, I'd be certain to take the wall charger.

And if I expected not to return to my vehicle (broken down) I'd grab both, so as to have the car charger to use in another vehicle.

Columbo and the second hand information from the “experts” also and don’t necessarily believe their opinion either and I have clearly stated that I see possibilities other than what they say. That is my right and more importantly dissention is important to the process. Others are free to believe what they wish also and argue their point.

I appreciate your position and respect your right to dissent and have your theory(ies) represented.

Fortunately, for me, I am not attached to any particular theory...perhaps because I haven't been around as long as others.

If Maura is never found by the creative efforts that all of you have put forth, at least most of the options will eventually be exhausted.

Well, there's no point in my taking a car charger with me unless I know I'm going to be in another car for a long period of time (or my phone is in desperate need of juice right then) since--of course--they only work in cars.

As for the wall charger, I leave it wherever it happens to be unless I expect to be gone for a long time--several hours or overnight.

So that, my dear Sara--thank you for pointing this out, because in retrospect it now seems really obvious to me!--leads me to believe that Maura thought she'd be returning to her car before too long, if she left it voluntarily.

Firecat is right and while I have seen where two of the searches took place I will respect that the areas should not be made public.

I've been attached to the same theory since the moment I learned about Maura. It just so happens that the experts have confirmed my worst fears and speculations.

The last time I allowed myself to be disuaded by LE and the media was when Molly Bish disappeared.

Ironically, The Molly Bish Foundation is one of the major contributors to Maura's investigation.

Yes, years of following Maura's case and learning about the countless others whom have gone missing and have been murdered within about an 100 mile radius leaves no doubt in my mind that Maura met with foul play.

I agree..if her plan was to run away forever and not use her phone so she couldnt be traced then she would have had no reason taking 2 chargers. I think its obvious that she planned to be gone for a couple of days and she did not plan on having an accident on 112.

This is probably flawed thinking. Information on areas that have been searched could be released and peer reviewed. You might not release areas that you are going to search but even that is probably reasonable at this late date. Your presumption is that she was the victim of a crime and that releasing this information at this late date will somehow change what? The outcome? The outcome at this point should be to find any evidence of Maura. Even if she was the victim of a crime, and there is still no evidence of that, she is either on the ground or buried or in water. Either way at this late date it is extremely unlikely that anyone would be either be digging her up or trying to find whatever evidence is scattered on the ground surface to move them elsewhere. Both would be impossible tasks. If the perpetrators’, if there are some, were stupid enough to try that, the only thing they would effectively do is to make it more likely that evidence of Maura’s death would be found by increasing the number ans size of the areas that she would be found. It would also verify that it was not an accidental death and possibly leave more trace evidence around and this trace evidence wouldn’t be almost five years old. What releasing the information would do is to allow people with some expertise in the field to review the search protocols and the probability of detection that was eventually given to the search areas. That would be a good review of what was done and how effective command felt the search was done. Releasing the information would allow areas that were searched to not be redundantly searched and to know what new areas should be searched. Also, possibly if because of poor probability of detection areas of high probability of area might be searched again.

I never take my home charger. Because I would forget it all the time. So what I have done is to put a phone charger in my vehicle. The reason is simple. I never forget it and I never have to worry about not being able to charge my phone, even if the power is out at the house or the New Hampshire house that I visit as often as possible.
