BTW, "Raykel" sure looks like an attempted phonetic spelling of the name Racquel.

Instead of going to Dunkin Donuts, someone might want to chance regularly attending a certain Assembly of God church in VT.

Read up on the Assembly of God first, however, because it ain't no mainstream church and one should be prepared to answer why one was "called" to attend.

I'd do it just for the halibut, but I live too far away.

BTW, how should we deal with discovering that Maura is alive and well living among a new community of friends?

I vote for respecting her privacy and not posting any information about it.

Agree or disagree?

We might as well have a discussion about it before it happens, assuming it happens.

One of the most bizarre things about this case is the statement from campus police that the person who called Maura at Melville Hall early Friday morning from a campus phone had "moved on." The person who called her must have known her very well because he or she not only knew she was working, he or she also knew the right number to dial to ring the phone at the desk she was monitoring. Given her penchant for secrecy, I think it's unlikely that very many people, including her friends, knew where she was and how to reach her. Also, the call was after midnight. At first, I thought that "moved on" meant the person no longer was a student and had not been located. But that doesn't make sense because the call must have traced long before the spring semester ended. Then I wondered if the person was special to her and after a lover's tiff during the call, they eloped, ran away, or "moved on" together.
Could this be what happened? Did the police deliberately not reveal the caller's identity to protect his and Maura's right to privacy?
If so, it seems odd that the NHSP would later claim a 75% chance that Maura was murdered and it was investigating the case as a possible homicide.
Is it possible that LE identified the caller and interviewed him and he told them that he was having an affair with Maura and he called her to end it? Did he have an alibi that checked out? Could LE have decided that the best way to refer to the call in public was to say the caller "moved on," meaning he ended the relationship? Was this characterization of the call motivated by a desire to protect his privacy? Was he married?
Could this be the reason why the name of the art gallery has been such a secret? There is an art gallery located in the SW dorms and I believe campus phones are located in common areas, perhaps close to, if not in the gallery.
Reactions??????????
Didn't someone mention that the phone call was made from a campus payphone? Anyone remember?

If Maura was taken in by a group of people with whom she may have shared her life story and desire to start a new life, isn't it possible that they may have responded to questions from investigators by saying that the Maura lookalike had been a member of their community for many years and therefore couldn't be Maura?
Are there any "off the grid" communities in the North country?

...but this sighting was so long ago, and we have no indication that she has gone there since. Is anyone willing to go to this church every Sunday for the next five years?

So, someone was murdered, authorities say virtually nothing about it. Did she have family, friends? How does a murder get just a brief blurb of mention such as this? It shows a lack of regard in my opinion.
Where are the reporters asking questions? Are there any real reporters out there, or do they just chew on what is fed to them? That may lead to obesity as it has no decent caloric value having been previously digested.

She never denied Maura was on the team. You are misinterpreting what was reported. What the track coach said was that she didn't think Maura had ever run competitively for UMass.(about which she turns out to have been mistaken.) The two things are entirely different.

If a runner on a track or cross-country team is injured, they may well sit out meets--but chances are extremely high, given the closeness among running comrades, that she was still attending practices (possibly even running some of them, as much as her injury allowed) and traveling with the team to meets.

I know this to be the case much of the time, as a runner myself. I have traveled to various places around the country to marathons my friends ran, when I myself was too injured to complete training.

As I posted on the other forum, I disagree that because of Maura's "secrecy" (which some posters may be more comfortable describing as "privacy", myself included) very few people would have known where to find her. Maura was working at the security desk of a large public building on campus--I believe it was another dorm. Anyone who went in or out would have known she was there.

Also, campus security posts are usually regular rotating shifts. Therefore it's likely that people knew Maura could be found there at the same time(s) every week during the entire school year while class was in session.

Nope, none at all.(beholding the irony).

It could be anyone who uses a proxy server and is able to route it through Tampa.

It could be you, Alden.

This is the best guess I can think of. That would be a good way to protect a married man who was seeing her or who broke up with her that night.... To the other poster who asked, I believe it was from a CAMPUS PHONE, the kind where you don't need to dial 10 digital, like just an extension.

An ongoing investigation...and the police are obligated not to compromise the investigation. That's my take.

Mason,

I quite agree with your suggestion here. A very possible scenario indeed.
It is also not inconceivable that Maura may be suffering from some form of stress-induced amnesia, which may temporarily have erased all memories of her previous life.

Also:
I remember that somebody on this forum once mentioned having seen a girl looking very much like Maura on the website of some kind of religious community near Irasburg, VT, which is not very far from Barton, VT, where the "Raykel" sighting was reported back in 2005.

Anybody else remembers this?

Shame on you! Sarah Palin would go. Who would pass up a chance to learn to speak in tongues?

Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

Seriously, can we rely on the statement that she never returned to the church?

Hi Det. Columbo,

I was not aware that both cases were the same, the initial postings referred to the victim as Peanut and not her full name.

Thanks for providing the link, it's where I initially read her about the boot print found on her chest some time ago. Very sad, very sad indeed.

I'd rather listen to that than the nasty and snide remarks you've made about Maura's father and sister.

Touche, EB.

But my source for the remark by Kathleen is Sniffin, who overheard it and even Citigirl passed up a chance to controvert what I wrote about towing the Saturn to Amherst. Yes, I was sarcastic in the manner that I expressed those facts, but as always, the facts speak for themselves.

I just wanted to compliment you on the shot you took at me. Nicely done.

Lookin4AMoose,
Is my timeline now correct? I adjusted it according to your message. I didn't realize that the UMass track coach helped her get into UMass on what must have been short notice. Odd that that she later denied Maura ever was on the team, isn't it?
Maura started at WP in the fall of 2000 and completed her first year at the end of the spring semester 2001. Her older sister, Julie, and Billy graduated and received their commissions about 3 months before 9/11.
Maura withdrew from WP before the end of the fall 2001 semester and enrolled at UMass at the beginning of the spring semester 2002.
She switched her major to Nursing at the beginning of the fall semester 2002, and she had completed three semesters in the Nursing program at the beginning of the spring semester 2004.
I've mentioned before that lots of people struggled mentally and emotionally during the fall of 2001 in the aftermath of 9/11 and I can't shake the feeling that Maura's invitation to leave WP may have had something to do with her reaction aggravated by fear for Julie's and Billy's safety. The war drums were beating and she would have expected them to be sent off to war.
Mason, I'm under the impressiont hat the coach that helped her get admitted to UMass was a man, not a woman. The coach that was in place at the meet she ran in Providence, RI (Brown Univ.) was a woman...Julie Lafreniere I think her name was. I think it was Julie that said she didn't remember her.........I'm not 100% positive though.
