LOOKING4AMOOSE, can you say where exactly these public access points for ATV's are in that area? I would really like to know that. I can post an email address if that is better than a public posting.

In one of the most amazing coincidences I have ever had I was talking with an uncle this weekend who I haven’t seen in many years. He owns property (2 acres) in the Mountain lakes area. He bought it in the 70’s before the whole thing went bust during the oil shortage. Never built on it but he used to park a camper on the property during the summer. It sounds like he hasn't been there in a while.

I'm slow. It takes me a super-long time to see a pattern. Also I'm challenged in many ways. Beagle is unpredictable, I didn't read all that was posted while I was gone; he probably dissed us all, but the truth is I miss his smarts, humor, conspiracy stuff and more. So, WeWii, are you saying that NOW there's something WRONG with being SLOW???? haha! You gotta admit that the point about getting out there and, if possible, talking to people ourselves, gatting some first-hand information, was a motivating shift in what we all usually do on forums, right? Take care! Help the slow ones along! Nite!

Without being able to set foot on UMass property, I cannot put a few more pieces of the puzzle together; thus, nothing to contribute.

I can only assume that the UMass PD will not give a very warm welcome to anyone else who wants to know in what parking lot a car was assigned a parking spot 5 years ago. I'm not sure what they would do to someone who asked, for example, the names of the buildings.

The Saturn was left in Haverhill, where nearly all the attention has been relentlessly focused. And thereby focused relentlessly AWAY from Amherst.

Suppose the Saturn had been left in Greenwich, CT? Or the South Bronx? Somehow, I don't think there would be too many people demanding information from and trash-talking THOSE residents.

Want to get pushy with a partner at Cravath, Swain, and Moore? Want to wave your pea-shooter in the face of the Bloods and Cripps?

The Amherst/Northampton area in general, and the UMass campus in particular, must, at the very least, be ruled out. Just ruling out anything foul in the Amherst area would be a big help.

But without access to the campus, that's sort of difficult.

Hi again --- yeah, you know, you're right --- talk about encouraging those abusive, dysfunctional patterns so familiar from childhood! Still, several of us now have trips set up for Haverhill and Amherst/Hadley, and I'm tracking down people to talk to who are spread out all over the place by now, so I think Beagle did make a contribution in that regard.(I probably just repeated what I said in the previous post, but... who's counting?)

Just in case this is a post-menopausal pick-up bar, it should be known that I have short feet and no 401-K.

I do, however, have a few lines of (someone else's) poetry to contribute.

Out of the mud two strangers came
And caught me splitting wood in the yard.
And one of them put me off my aim
By hailing cheerily "Hit them hard!"
I knew pretty well what he had in mind:
He wanted to take my job for pay.

Whoops! Let me try that again.

Out of the mud two strangers came
And caught me splitting wood in the yard.
And one of them put me off my aim
By hailing cheerily "Hit them hard!"
I knew pretty well why he dropped behind
And let the other go on a way.
I knew pretty well what he had in mind:
He wanted to take my job for pay.

Funny, that's not the impression I get at all.

Actually in the Bronx I'd be more worried about Cholos del Bronx, MS-13, or DDP. Crips and Bloods in NYC are pretty harmless unless you are one, unlike in LA. But it was a nice try to make yourself look martyred, which is what you said you didn't want.

Guess you're stuck doing research online, like the rest of us poor slobs. Oh, the horror.

Your point here being what, exactly? I'm not doubting there is one, I'd just like you to state it because I'm not sure I've reached the conclusion you intended.

(btw, I know your typo was unintended, and I'd have left it alone if it wasn't a pretty darned funny one.:))

I'm also not sure why you bring up what people's theoretical reactions would be had Maura disappeared in Greenwich or South Bronx.

The fact of the matter is, Haverhill is where Maura was when she disappeared. So that's what we have to work with. It's not that anybody's picking on Haverhill, or whatever it is you seem to think.(which, again, I'm really not sure.) It's simply that the fact remains:

Maura was attending school in Amherst MA. Her car turned up in Haverhill NH. Those are FACTS, not judgments.

I think Haverhill is that last place she may have been seen with any certainty. I don't think anyone knows where she disappeared from.

Read those two sentences together. Then rethink the logic a little bit.

Will this make the hair split any easier for you, WTF? THE FACT REMAINS THAT MAURA'S CAR WAS FOUND IN HAVERHILL NH. Do you have a problem with that phrasing of it? Or do you just want to split hairs because I was the one who said it?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought published reports indicated that Marua was last reliably seen on a video tape recorded by a security camera in or near Amherst, MA on February 9, 2004, and that someone left her father's car on Rt. 112 in Haverhill, NH later the same day. I thought, perhaps mistakenly, that those were the facts. True or false?

Something's been rattling around my head since BB's most recent onslaught. People ask questions here all the time. Whiston, for example, recently asked if anyone here knew x-and-such. That was the way he phrased it: "does anyone know......"

I, for one, have no problem with that. The purpose of a forum is for us to WORK TOGETHER TO FIND MAURA. If I have information at hand that can save Whiston a day's, week's, or even hour's search, why not share it with him and save him that time? She's been missing for more than four years now. That doesn't mean each passing minute without locating her matters less.

If someone can place a phone call from here that might save Euro the money he'd spend calling from Sweden (or wherever he happens to be, since some people have decided he's not in Sweden, but I digress) or even better know it off the top of their heads, WHY NOT SAY IT?

For each of us to conduct our own research independently, and to not share our resources and tell each other what we know, keeps us as a group in the dark, and valuable information sequestered that might help Maura. That to me runs counter-intuitive to finding Maura, in addition to the concept of having a forum dedicated to finding her.

I don't think Euro, Philip, or anyone else is necessarily asking anyone to do the work FOR them, they are simply looking for information in the most expedient way possible. Hey--I know! Let's see if anyone already knows this, before I bust my ass looking for it when I didn't have to.

Hasn't anyone ever spent hours looking for an answer only to crow triumphantly and have the person sitting next to you say "Well,*I* knew that! All you had to do was ask."

That's what we're HERE for. And for god's sake, if it's more expedient or convenient for someone else to find the info because of a connection, a locale, or a specialty, why not let them do it? If you ARE that person, why not volunteer to do it? If research is your specialty, as opposed to chatting people up in person, there is nothing wrong with using the gifts you DO possess to helping find Maura. No gift should be seen as greater or smaller. They should all be welcomed equally.

Ok, question answered. Did either of you even READ the rest of the post? I suspect not.

Here it is, again, only in caps because this way maybe you won't miss it.

MAURA WAS ATTENDING SCHOOL IN AMHERST MA.
HER CAR WAS FOUND IN HAVERHILL NH.

Now get the hell over it.

I personally don't care who says what except for content. You said you were stating fact. If you are, then stick to facts. Her car was found in Haverhill. That is a fact. That she disappeared from Haverhill is not a fact. I don’t need to rethink the logic. The logic and construction is solid. Not that I care but it sounds like you are keeping score. I don’t think of it as splitting hairs. I think of it more as trying to separate fact from just making stuff up. It is difficult enough to seperate fact from fiction in this case.

Therefore, Maura Murray disappeared from Haverhill, NH?

If I get car-jacked in my father's car after having stopped at a local liquor store, and the perp dumps my dead body down a nearby ravine, where no one ever looks for it, and then the perp drives the car 150 miles away until it fishtails off the road, at which point he abandons it and runs down the dark road ahead in a hooded sweatshirt, how have I "disappeared" from the location where my father's car was abandoned?

FireCat, this is the statement you made. I checked again to make sure I did not read it incorrectly. I am not sure why you are so upset with me. I thought I answered the question with relative civility more as a fact check than anything else. I have no axe to grind with you. I don't know you even by reputation so there was no malice intended in my answer to you.

I'll assume that something was misinterpreted and leave it at that.
