A MA truck isn't odd at all in the area--when Maura disappeared, it was the begining of a construction boon in the area. There were quite a few houses being built in the area at the time, and even more built not long afterward. Sometimes the builders were local contractors but many out of state people were doing a lot of work without a formal contracter too. In addition, I'd say that only about half the houses that are in the area are actually full time residences--the rest are owned by people from Mass, RI, CT, NY. There are weekends when you see a lot more out of state cars/trucks in the area than you do NH plates.
Thanks, I figured as much. MA plates not that unusual. But Advocator/GveMeaBrk' combo scenario is still a good working theory, I think. Especially if the MA truck belongs to Mr. X. Have to think pretty hard on that one.

Old site showing Swiftwater ski area..no longer functional....shows terrain..base elevation 840.

http://www.nelsap.org/nh/monteau.html

Compared with Mt. Moosilaukee elevation of over 3000, hovering above, there wouldn't be moonlight ..
(even though that night it was full) The black of night comes early evening in February.

If you have a computer that is not older than dirt you can see Beth's video "Maura's believed Route 112 Eastbound"
found on Maura Murray Missing. I can't on my Flintstone laptop.

Somewhere it is written that a physic said something like..."Maura is in the woods..?..water..?
Hello..!? That's NH...VT etc...

1995 Saturn..keep engine running,(with key in ignition) and lock doors with inside latches.
I have locked both sets in car...one in ignition..spare in console...only ONCE..
(have a plastic spare I keep in wallet.)

Anne, might be a silly question...but, could that dispatch call have been in Orange County...
different channel?...I mean Grafton and Orange are only ..what 8 - 10 miles apart?
Grasping at straws. And, I very well remember you hearing it and calling your friend
(recently moved from FL?) because you were worried that it was her in that first call....
because she lived and drove near/on 112.

Afterthought..red truck..a NH native once mentioned that NH temporary plates look
like MA plates...? I don't know. And, I haven't forgotten the Grafton Dispatch noting
stopping red trucks later that night and into the next morning.

No more tent...no more corners...

I have no idea how to assess these things - I could be way off - but I'd say there's around a 10 percent chance the guy lives in Bernardston. But where one goes from here is problematic at best. Think I'm going to my own little tent for a while.

Yes Shack,

Temp plates (30 day plates) were red and white and may still be now.

I noticed on the polic log just after the weathered barn accident was reported (not verbatum-the ones on the Hanson Express website)

Is the girl at the cottage?

to me a cottage is a small seasonal building near a body of water e.g. lake, pond, ocean.

It causes me to wonder if this is why Mr. Atwood headed toward French Pond when he began searching for Maura.

Sophie,

Bundy, Godfrey, Fells, Riddle, and one or two others I'm thinking of were all capable of being serial criminals. It's a matter of going back and linking them with the misssing and remembered.

Yup, even Bundy passed through back in the 70's to obtain his birth certificate in Burlington, VT.

Although Mass. plates used to have red figures on a white background, the Mass. RMV hasn't issued them for over 20 years. Mass. tags are among the plainest in the country, with the reflective material inlaid.

After sleeping on it, I still think there's roughly a 10 percent chance the guy lives in Bernardston. Frustrating because there's nothing more can be done.

If Maura stopped to buy anything, she may have left the saturn running just to be sure it wouldn't "not start" when she finished her errand. Didn't that happen once to her in Amherst on an errand?

Remember that the towel in the tailpipe was a towel from Maura's trunk. Fred verified that (IIRC).

Anyone else remember reading Maura (or whoever) grabbed the cellphone and keys, locked the car, and then disappeared. I remember this because a friend suggested that she did this "on auto pilot" even though she might've been pretty shook up.

Excellent scenarios above regarding old-fashioned towing with a chain, a start and quick stop damaging the saturn.

The red truck driver's behavior always bothered me.

I read all of RO's posts and IIRC she said in one post that there was the possibility of a second person in the truck. Not sure how that would change things.

Maura was said to be such a private person that I'd guess she was very busy living her life and not chatting about it. I also am guessing that when she talked to her sister most nights that Maura did not do the bulk of the talking. She seemed closest to Billy and Fred. Fred's first reaction after hearing LE couldn't locate her was to worry that maybe she took her own life since she was depressed. When Billy arrived in the area, he was quoted as having the feeling Maura was "no longer with us". That would be pretty early on to think she was abducted and murdered, so I have a feeling Billy was thinking along different lines. These are the people who knew her best. The other people Maura knew and saw in the days before she disappeared were Karen A., her supervisor who offered to get her counseling and was worried about her emotional state; her friends from the Saturday night party who were concerned with her judgment about driving to her dad's motel at 2AM-ish and several tried to talk her out of it; her friend who worked in the gallery with Maura was astonished Maura said nothing on Sunday about the Saturday night accident. There seems to be a pattern here.

Hello all,

Just had it confirmed on the web that the town of Bath, NH, does have its own part-time police force.
This would mean that the Bath PD in theory at least should have been responding to the first "mystery" accident possibly involving Maura´s Saturn, provided that incident occurred on Rte 112 anywhere between the Weathered Barn curve in the east and the Rte 302 junction in the west.
The Bath PD is only a part-time one, though, so this remains unclear.

Searching for the Bath PD online I also came across the following news piece from www.wmur.com .

This may be about a dog, but the incident gives me the creeps none the less and apparently it happened on route 112 in the Swiftwater area of Bath.
What kind of person would intentionally be doing something like this to a dog??? It´s sick.

From www.wmur.com :

Bath Police Try To Find Owner Of Dog Killed By Car
Witness Reports That Driver Left Scene After Accident

POSTED: 4:51 pm EST January 3, 2006

BATH, N.H.-- Police said that a dog in Bath that died after being struck by a car was intentionally hit, and they're looking for help from the public to solve the case.

Officials have not been able to find the owners of the young female beagle that was struck by a car on Dec. 29. A witness reported seeing a woman in a black sedan strike the dog and leave the scene.

"The person that witnessed the accident was very distraught," Chief Dennis Mackay said. "That was the information I got from the gentleman who picked the dog up and also from the lady who actually called the complaint in."

Mike Williams and his brother-in-law were traveling along Route 112 when they came upon the accident. Williams' wife, Cindy Williams, said that they couldn't help but stop.

"They're both dog lovers," she said. "We have a dog of our own, and it was just sad. The dog didn't have any identification on it, so we didn't know who it belonged to. They felt bad and said it was a very nice dog. It didn't snap at them or anything."

The two men took the beagle to a veterinarian for care, but it had to be put down the next day because of severe back and neurological injuries.

Police said that they hope a distinctive white spot on the left side of the dog's nose will help identify it.

"We don't really know who owns the dog," Mackay said. "It could be a family pet, hunting dog. If it's a child's pet, you definitely want to make them aware that they don't have a pet any longer."

Police are hoping that the witness and the driver of the car that struck the dog come forward. New Hampshire law requires drivers who strike a dog to stop and notify the owner or police.

Shack, I just wanted to answer your question about the possibility of Vermont call. From what we remember it was the word Swifwater that caught our attention in that long scanner call. It would seem to me that someone has a copy of the chatter from that night.

Beague --- I don't think staying in the FRONT yard is the best idea since who knows where out-of-control cars wind up!? I usually hide in the basement. I highly recommend it. Also - no lawn to deal with, etc.

Extremely serious now: An accidental hit while Maura on the road examining damaged car..... this is certainly possible. I can't name names because I don't know any, but does anyone know about a nearby neighbor on 112 (nearby showbank) who often drove an official home from work? Several houses up 112 heading north from the snowbank? This person, maybe a sheriff's deputy, could be a total hero throughout his entire life, but i hope he and his family have been interviewed as to whether or not they inadvertently witnessed something that night. They might've seen or heard something really important if they were in the area at the right time.(This'll get me killed for sure.)

Okay, basement it is. Maybe bomb shelter.

Perhaps check local papers Monday/Tuesday for what official was in area? Someone from Haverhill or from Concord? Good thinking, Quija.
