In other words,.....yeah. What Advocator just said. I guess he's a faster typist.
In re: West Point. My thoughts and cautions on this are very basic and simple: PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WEST POINT IS A MILITARY INSTITUTION.:-) In other words, while it's definitely something that ought to be explored to the very fullest of our limitations, it would not surprise me at all to find us stonewalled simply by the fact that it's West Point. The military does not exactly have an open-door policy in a lot of areas. So, yes. I think we should find out what we can. But it might not get us very far. Homeland Security is not exactly the snuggliest bunch of folks you've ever met. And actually, Euro, since you have journalism credentials, you as the press might have a better chance at access than any of us private individuals. Unless someone here happens to be an army officer and just hasn't mentioned it. |

Just in case that was directed at me, because I can't tell, I'm not yelling at anyone. I'm just being.....passionate. And yeah. Don't become a BeagleWaffle. That would suck. |
|
No, it's definitely not directed at you, FireCat. I don't why, but there is a serious time-lag issue, at least for me, on this board. I post, it looks like I posted, then five minutes later, I get a number, but there are a half-dozen posts suddenly in front of me that were not there just seconds earlier. I guess it's the way these post just get processed. No, it was re: an earlier Quija remark. At least, she TOLD me she got it. |

A BeagleWaffle???? No worries. No BeagleWaffles in the future. I promise.

Hello FireCat and all,
What I intended when mentioning Maura´s three (?) terms as a cadet at West Point was for us to possibly find out more about the people she may have met and befriended while studying there, as this surely could have a bearing on what happened later. Just one exemple: By "googling" the web it´s easy to conclude that Maura took part in a good many races while a cadet at W.P. This may be a starting point here, if nothing else. Don´t you think? Considering that Maura by all accounts is a very private person, it seems most likely that if she indeed did strike up som new acquaintances and/or friendships it would primarily have been with other runners/athletes while at W.P. From what I understand, Maura ran very few races while at Amherst due to having suffered some kind of injury, which prevented her from running very much. This would mean that she ran the vast majority of her races while a student at W.P. rather than while at Amherst. |

Beagle - yup, dog house for sure. Almost as good as a bomb shelter, except for the lack of MREs.
|
Yes, Euro, that definitely makes sense. I agree. I was just pointing out the hopefully obvious. :)

Ouiija, The truth is that I hope everyone here is trying to put their input into the search for Maura and toward that end I will continue. Let's hope I will not become so fervently unobjective again soon. LOL |
Have a nice weekend. |

Hi FireCat,
Good to hear from you before finally retreating for the night (too late as always, but then I´m enjoying my summer vacations right now...). Hopefully we can get this forum going again in the next few days, as there have been signs of a slight despondence (including myself) here today. We all desperately want some progress to be made and it can all be so very frustrating at times with all the questions and so few answers. I just can´t wait to learn Advocator´s news (hopefully...) from Barton in due course. It wouldn´t surprise me at all, though, if the visitors book can not be found, or whatever... Good night all & have a nice week-end... |

Thanks, I will. |
I have never thought suicide..because I feel that
she would have been found by now. One cannot hide themself with a suicide.. And agreed..I believe Helena has heard it all.. I stuttered and stammered a sentence to her about what "folks were saying" in the area. Her words.. "heard it already".... |

hi all,why would mrAtwwood call 911.if he was the bad guy.The Westmans were the ones that brought in E.M.S etc..mrAtwwoods call was after the Westmans.one thing that has bugged me since day one,why call 911 at all.It was just a car stuck in a ditch with no injuries.why not call a none emergency number or a garage.mrAtwood knew Maura had A.A.A. at the time, she told him, and doubted if her phone worked because of the location.Did mr Atwood suspect a crime and that is why he called 911.why would the 911 operator determine that this was just a car stuck at the side of the road.maybe someone local could help with this .is it normal to have E.M.S. and F.D. at a car stuck in the road. anyone have photos of the saturn whilst it was at Lavoies . i am not being a wise guy i am just asking. Robinson Ordway it would be great if you could help with this.If not i wish you well.take care philip

In some localities, FD must always respond to any car crash. Not sure how is was in Haverhill in 2004, but not unusual. |

I've never seen an auto accident up there so I'm no help on this one!......... Now if it involved a moose, then I could provide paragraphs of information.
|
Now, see? This is a really good and interesting question, and in more than 3 years of my own participation, all the discussions about the SBD and his actions, I can't recall ever seeing this precise question raised. There may be a simple answer, such as "everyone just thinks to call 911" when there is an accident, but it's a very good question. This is what I mean about new ideas and information still coming up. |

It seems that Maura's friends were mostly fellow runners. K Markopoulos was running for UMass, I think, and S Alfieri had been running competitively while in high school (don't know about while at UMass). I don't know much about sports running, but I would suppose it works like other sports, meaning travel around a region to various meets. Maura would have met and competed against a lot of runners, probably throughout New England. Was just thinking that while she didn't grow up with some of these girls, she might have known them for several years prior to UMass.
As to West Point. One thing that has always struck me was that Maura did very well there and not just academically. While she chose to not stay with the military, apparently she was well able to handle the physical aspects. She had completed "Beast", a very grueling physical test designed to separate the sheep from the goats. . |
Never seen one hit, but been chased twice - once near Jackman, ME and once at Gros Morne, Newfoundland by cow with her calf. The stains never did come out from that one! No FD to call there, either. |

Am I the only one that hears an echo in here?
