Problems in military academies were discussed 1-2 years ago in forums. No-one needs to read this, but the first article I hit on is just another reference for the sexual/power dynamics that have occurred in the academies and in the service.
THE ONLY WAY this line of thinking would be of any use would be IF someone had hurt Maura at WP and if LE could find out through the records (a statement by Maura) who might've hurt her and interrogate him vigorously until he could be brought to justice. Otherwise, it's all useless except for trying to understand Maura's state of mind. http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art... |

you're not talking about final fantasy? Hope i don't go off on an irrelevant T-tic rant about castlevania or something. I was kidding the other day about T-tic stuff -- felt i could because of having friends w/it. You don't....uhhhhh, do you? |
Thanks, but no final fantasy. Just need more sunshine and fresh air. |

Right, and added to that, the military is all about people being "strong", and that adds to the women's fears of reporting such a crime. They don't want to rat out their classmates, they don't want to seem like it was a problem, they fear reprisal, they.....etc. A big ugly mess, whether or not it happened to Maura.
WTF, your first paragraph had me thinking some. Good points in there. As for the second, had Maura thought there was a death in her family, I'm pretty sure she'd have been all up in her family's faces finding out what was going on, and likely heading any other direction than north. and you're right, the tenor of her messages don't seem to indicate that. |

Judged: 1 This is the part that gets my brain churning about Maura, Bill. In a word, yikes. Not only about the crying jag at UMass, but if she were abducted and held alive for any period of time. |

Judged: 3 1 My thought is, her older sister Julie was at West Point also when Maura was there, so if some type of assault occurred, Maura certainly would have told her and therefore the family would know about it even if Maura felt she could not tell military authorities. |

Hello all,
Good to see a lot of W.P. debate going on here! Regarding Mauraīs sudden and seeming inexplicable departure from UMass Amherst it would seem to me that she was either being stalked or otherwise harrassed by someone, and that the upsetting phone call at the security desk at Melville dorm could likely have something to do with such a scenario. An alternative explanation could be that her Saturn car was in some way - whoever drove it - possibly involved in the Vasi hit-and-run case, and that Maura may have been threatened/coerced to help someone dispose of the Saturn. A third possibility might be that she suffered a sudden attack of Dissociative Fugue (or similar)syndrome, brought about by overwhelming stresses in her life. This could explain the sudden crying episode at the security desk and the "flight" from Amherst to New Hampshire. Apparently, severe cases of Dissociative Fugues may last for years with the affected persons assuming new identities and recalling little if anything of their previous lives. As I see it, either of these three scenarios could well be what might have happened. Trouble is, we cannot at this point know which one could be said to be the most likely one. |

Judged: 1 Another possibility occurred to me about why she might have driven the Saturn up to the White Mtns. In general, one can get more from the private sale of a car than one can get on trade-in value. Maybe she had talked to someone up in that area whom she knew and thought might buy the car. Maybe she wanted to try to do this to save her dad some money on the purchase of another car for her, so packed up for a few days to make the trip. I think this could be a possibility, but am not sure how it would fit with other facts. |

I like the way you think and reason Advocator. Did you post on MMM. I do not remember the name.

uh, whiston...
http://www.lifeinlegacy.com/2004/WIR20040131.... Scroll down or search for Greg Wallace. I think his folks live in CO. Will check that. |

Gregory J. Wallace was at West Point while Maura was there. Don't know if they knew each other. He transferred as a junior to Stephen F. Austin Univ and Patrick Hannaway (a freshman vs. Greg being a junior transfer) was a good friend of his. Greg grew up in Tomball, TX. His friend Patrick later transfered to Univ. Colorado-Colorado Springs and was also a basketball player with a great rep. Greg had to sit out that season (per requirement) and he had the opportunity to talk a lot with Patrick. Patrick would be a good contact just to find out if Greg even knew Maura at all --- because at THAT point being a friend of hers from West Point would be really fresh in his thoughts and conversation. The announcement of his sudden death was not long before Maura's upset on Feb. 5. This would be another coincidence to PROVE WRONG and let go of.

hi quija and all.thanks for the link .what a shame

Judged: 1 1 West Point students have the first two years to determine if they still want to commit to the minimum of five years of active Army duty and three in the Reserves. To decide not to take their affirmation oath would mean they could transfer out of West Point and have no other obligation to the military. |

Thanks -- nice thing to say! Yes, I did post on MMM but rarely, user name Advocate on there. |
Judged: 1 1 1 Say that the Saturn conked out or whatever somewhere near Woodsville, and Maura was able to contact a towing service - pay phone, someone stopped and let her use their phone, who knows? Tow truck has a skid on the Weathered Barn corner causing the damage. Why wouldn't SBD report that? Where was Maura? Or, as has been often suggested, the damage happened in towing, but elsewhere, with or without Maura present. How'd the car end up where it was found? I also keep thinking about the "menstrual blood" found in the closet of the A-frame. Does everyone agree that there's no logical or benign explanation for that? What on earth does that suggest? One more observation - it is remarkable that someone from Sweden should have the exact same QUITE "unique" perspective about "dissociative fugue state" - a very rare psychopathic event - as someone clearly NOT from Sweden who posted it on MMM. An astonishing coincidence. |

Hello sophie bean,
I may be "thick" here, but Iīm not quite sure what you are suggesting in your latest post. I only followed the MMM postings for some time before the forum was shut down, so I donīt believe I ever read the particular MMM posting referring to the "dissociative fugue" state. My interest in this particular state of the mind stems from reading about many seemingly inexplicable vanishings of in particular college students, where "dissociative fugue" or similar syndromes may well have been the direct cause of many of these vanishings. It has also been scientifically proved that many office workers have been affected by similar problems over the years, especially when being exposed to a lot of constant movements in the outer field of vision over a long period of time. Thatīs why huge office "landscapes" are such an inherently bad idea, while personal desk "cubicles" should be provided for all students and office workers in order to stop the potentially damaging effects of so called subliminal distraction, which may cause dissociative fugue symptoms. Please, have a look at the excellent web site "visionandpsychosis" which deals with this serious matter, which too many people overlook to their possible detriment. |

I'm wondering ... if the Saturn was being towed behind a regular pickup truck with just a chain to tow the car, is that a legal way to tow or can people get a ticket for towing that way? If it's illegal, then if the Saturn "came off" the chain on the Weathered Barn corner, maybe the pickup truck vamoosed to avoid getting a ticket and swung back around to pick up Maura in the nick of time before LE arrived. |
