I have been following this site as I have with the MMM Forum. Some posters here know who I am and I've met some of you over the years. I believe most of you are here because you want to help and contribute to the investigation of Maura's dissapperance. As I've stated on Maura's Forum in the past, I will assist in answering questions you may have so long as those questions/answers do not hinder this investigation. I am, by profession, a nationaly certified criminal defense investigatior, not being employed, paid, induced or otherwise under the influance of any member of the Murray family. I am one of several private investigators (pro-bono)from MA,NH,ME,VT and CT who are taking on this case for one purpose only..to uncover the TRUTH of what happened to Maura Murray on Feb. 9, 2004. I am not here to entertain you or partake in frivolous conversation.

Elsewhere posted this:

The reason why I brought up Weeper yesterday, not Frank Kelly, is because his posts on Maura's forum were ones that I took into careful consideration.

"He removed himself from the case shortly after the volunteer search in 2006 and wrote a letter to the courts requesting that the information on Maura's case remained sealed."

I have not removed myself from this case and did not send a letter to any court requesting all documents remain sealed. Though I agree they should be held from public release as this is an ongoing investigation.

Maura's has been a major homicide investigation for quite some time, this was confirmed to me the day I read Weeper's letter to the courts.

Weeper's on Maura's side and he obviously has a good reason to go against Fred's desire to obtain more information in an effort to find her.

"Weeper was also one of the number of experts who stated the person(s) responsible for Maura's disappearance has done it before and will do it again."

This statement I do agree with, though I will not give specific reasons for my belief that Maura was the victim of "foul play".

Whiston,

It may be worth your while to go back and re-read Weeper's posts on Maura's first forum. His are easy to find, they are in all caps.

Hello all,
This may be somewhat off-topic and also rather dispiriting, but please, have a look at this Wikipedia excerpt.
__________
Paula Jean Welden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paula Jean Welden (1928-?) was a Bennington College, Vermont, USA, sophomore whose unexplained vanishing while on a day-hike on Vermont's Long Trail hiking route on 1 December 1946 has remained unsolved. Despite repeated searches of the Long Trail section between Vermont State Route 9 at Woodford Hollow, a few miles east of Bennington, and Glastenbury Mountain some ten miles further north, no clues to Paula's disappearance were ever found.
Paula Welden was the eldest of four daughters of the well-known industrial engineer and designer William Archibald Welden (1900-1970) and his wife Jean, née Douglas, of Stamford, Connecticut. Employed by the Revere Copper and Brass Company, W. Archibald Welden was the designer of many familiar household utensils, as well as stylish cocktail shakers and other objects.
Bennington College
Welden hitched a ride from State Route 67A near the entrance of the Bennington College grounds in North Bennington to a point on State Route 9 near the Furnace Bridge between downtown Bennington and Woodford Hollow. She was later seen walking in the direction of Mt. Glastenbury on the Long Trail (the present Long Trail Road/Harbour Road) in the vicinity of the Fay Fuller Camp, and along the way she asked a group for directions to the Long Trail and Mt. Glastenbury. It is presumed that she must have continued her Long Trail walk along the Bolles Brook Valley, although there are no known confirmed sightings of her past the Fay Fuller Camp.[1]
[edit] The Long Trail
Welden was known to have had considerable prior knowledge about this part of the Long Trail and the Mt. Glastenbury area in general. She was an avid hiker and amateur botanist, and she had been previously hiking that section of the Long Trail both with friends and on her own. Thus, there would have been no reason for her to ask for directions about the Long Trail, unless she for some reason wanted to draw attention to being there.
This has led to speculation that she might have had a secret, pre-arranged assignation with a person somewhere on the Long Trail between the Fay Fuller Camp and Mt. Glastenbury. The fact that she was underdressed for the inclement weather that late Sunday afternoon has also intensified the theory that she did not expect to brave the elements for a long time before possibly finding refuge in a car or a log cabin as a prelude to starting a new life somewhere else.
Welden was said to have told a college friend some time before her vanishing that she wanted to be less dependent on people and that there would soon be a "new" Paula. Prior to her disappearance she had been preoccupied for some time and had refused to return home for the 1946 Thanksgiving holidays, instead opting to stay on at Bennington College. On the Saturday night before the day of her vanishing she had been in unusually high spirits, according to her college friends.[1]
[edit] Other cases
In the same general area where Welden disappeared, at least another four unexplained vanishings are supposed to have taken place between 1942 and 1950. Some of these cases are not, however, entirely substantiated by facts. Only one body, that of 53-year-old Mrs Frieda Langer, an experienced hunter and hiker, was subsequently found, and that was in puzzling circumstances. Due to the strangeness of these events, Vermont broadcaster and author Joseph A. Citro dubbed the wilderness area northeast of Bennington "the Bennington Triangle" -- a reference to unexplained disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle.[2][3]
Paula Welden was declared legally dead in 1956. Her true fate remains a mystery to this day.

This is interesting, you say he wrote a letter to the courts which you read, and he's saying he didn't write a letter.

That about sums it up.

I WILL say, however, that everything that is in me, not even having met the man personally, points AWAY from Fred having anything to do with it. Have you seen the pictures of this man at Maura's crash site? He is in agony.

Whenever I lose faith in the proceedings (or lack thereof) in this case, I bring up those pictures. All it takes is one heart-rending look at them and I am reminded again why I'm here. To bring that man's little girl home to him.

RE: Weeper's statement of not writing a letter a to the courts regarding keeping info sealed.

This is the stance that the group of PI's took as per John Healy. See article below.

Healy oversee's (was/is?) the pro bono investigation of Maura's disappearance.

So, while Weeper didn't directly write a letter to the court, Healy's statement to the media was as a spokesman for the PI group which Weeper (is/was?) is a part of.

Did Healy write a letter to the court? Who knows but I can see how this premise could be misconstrued.

Court: Closed files must be justified

By Katharine Webster
Associated Press

CONCORD -- The state Supreme Court says state police must give more detailed descriptions and reasons for refusing to disclose their investigative records in the disappearance of Massachusetts college student Maura Murray.
The ruling came Wednesday, only a weeks after oral arguments. The justices sent the case back to a lower court for a new hearing.
State police "have not met their burden to demonstrate how disclosure of the requested documents could reasonably be expected to interfere with any investigation or enforcement proceedings," the court said in a unanimous decision.

Murray was 21 years old when she was last seen on the night of Feb. 9, 2004, shortly after crashing her car into a snowbank next to Route 112 in Haverhill.

Her father, Fred Murray, of Weymouth, Mass., sued to obtain the investigative files under the state Right-to-Know Law. His lawyer, Timothy Ervin, said Wednesday the ruling was "fair and balanced," although the court did not require the release of any records.

"We've said all along that the state has not met its burden to show that all the records they have fall within the exemption" to the Right-to-Know Law, he said. "In fairness,(the justices) couldn't order a release of records without knowing the nature of the records."

Part 2 of 2

Fred Murray has said the information could aid private investigators trying to determine his daughter's fate. However, the volunteer private investigators disagreed.

"Even if the court decided that some or all of those records should be released, we don't want them," John Healy, a former state trooper who is coordinating the volunteer effort, said Wednesday.
"We understand the damage it could do if certain investigative theories or avenues that led to dead ends were made public."

A superior court judge had agreed, ruling in favor of state police after he reviewed a list outlining 20 categories of records that were being withheld, such as "photographs," "correspondence," "maps and diagrams," and "tax records."

The high court said those categories were too vague for anyone to determine whether disclosure would compromise the police investigation or future criminal prosecution. They said the law clearly puts the burden on government agencies to justify withholding documents from public scrutiny.

"If the respondents continue to resist disclosure, they must make a presentation that will allow the superior court to determine how disclosure of the requested information could interfere with an ongoing investigation or enforcement proceedings," Associate Justice Richard Galway wrote for the court.

However, the ruling stopped well short of giving Fred Murray what he sought: either an index describing every record being withheld and the reason for keeping it confidential, so he could challenge the nondisclosure; or a requirement that a judge review the records and rule on each one.

The state attorney general's office had argued that would impose an overwhelming burden on police and the courts: The file in Murray's disappearance contains more than 2,500 records. Senior Assistant Attorney General Nancy Smith also argued the records, including witness interviews and police reports, could become critical evidence in a criminal prosecution.
Smith said Wednesday that state police will be able to show their records should remain confidential.

To all,

Allow me to explain/extrapolate on our (The Maura Murray PI Task Force Team) reasoning for not wanting and/or accepting any documents obtained from the New Hampshire Major Crimes Unit as related to this investigation. To begin with, our group of investigators has over 150 years of “criminal investigation” experience combined/jointly in every aspect of investigations. That is to say, we have experts (Court Certified Experts) in Accident Reconstruction (automobiles, trains, boats, etc.), Defense Investigators, State Police Homicide Investigators (retired, now Private Investigators), Search and Rescue Experts, Statement Analysis and Body Languish Experts and Missing Persons (cold/unsolved cases) Investigators. All these investigators come from Professional Associations from the State level and National level. We meet quarterly to discuss the progress of our involvement in the search for Maura and we come to a “majority consensus” as to our theories and methods of operation. Each investigator is given “investigative tasks” as their area of expertise dictates coordinated by an elected Team Leader; in this case it is John Healy. To accept any information/documents from the NHSP Major Crimes Unit or the AG’s Office would prevent us (separately or jointly) from conducting an “unbiased/independent” investigation into Maura’s disappearance and would put us in jeopardy and criminally liable to prosecution for “interfering in an on-going State investigation” if we were to act on the information/documents provided. However, any progress we make on our own we can pursue without “prejudice” and EVERY SOLID LEAD is immediately sent to the Lead Investigator for the NHSP Major Crimes Unit. We do not keep ANYTHING from the State Police that we feel will help in solving this case. We do keep these “information/results” from the public for the same reason the police do, we want a successful prosecution of those responsible for this CRIME. As for the feeling that the people who live in Haverhill, Swiftwater, Bath and the surrounding area haven’t been helpful in this pursuit, let me assure each and every one of you reading this Forum without the good hearted citizens up there in the North Country we would not be able to function at all. They have provided us with their time, money, food, housing and prayers from day-one! There are a few very dangerous people up there it’s true, but there are a few very dangerous people in every corner of this planet, however there are a lot more of us who give a damn and value life. Not just our own, but every life. Suicide and accidental death we have ruled out, collectively. All Maura look-alike “sightings” reported to us have been checked (yes, even the Church sighting) with negative results. Thank you for taking the time to read this long post, if/when I post information (with Team approval) please understand that it is given to you all with the hope you will utilize the information to fit a “viable theory” that may be useful toward a successful conclusion to this case. The damage to Maura’s Saturn was not the result of running off the road, into a snow bank and striking a tree. This is a fact, use it. The cracked windshield was from the inside of the vehicle, this is a fact, use it.

this crime is STILL actively being investigated. I thank you for that.

An idea about this being no accident,
Maura is fighting for her safety in the car, an elbow, head, something hits the windshield. It's either from Maura or the person(s) trying to take her freedom away.
......... something has been done to Maura who is no longer in the car, the handwritten directions are the reason for the car being off cource..... The criminal(s) use/s this info to bring the car to that area........

Or, "I/we, have to make this look like an accident. I/we, will smack something into the area of the windshield that will show she hit her head in an 'accident'. I'll take a sledgehammer or something to the front of the car and drive til I find a spot where I/we can "crash"..........my accomplice will be right ahead of or behind me and I can just run off when it's all set

Or, Maura has already reached her destination and begins to grab her things. She's stopped at some point and no longer has her car or her things, but "they" do. Again, that could explain the cluster cluck in where that car ended up vs the ideas on paper and the ones she looked up on her personal computer.
I wondered once if Maura was calling the salamones to talk with someone who had made reservations very well in advance and was there. Maybe that should be checked into for any possible tie to Maura.

Didn't the Salamones say that it had been so long since the call, that they could not remember the conversation? Have we assumed wrongly that Maura was looking for a place to stay on the spot? Wouldn't phone records show a call going to this or that room at the exact same time as Maura's call does show on the cell phone records for that day?

Weeper,

Thank you so much for your reply and explanation of why that particular letter was submitted to the courts. I knew there was a good/sound reason why that letter was written/submitted and I have always regarded you as a man of integrity.

As well as the men and woman whom have volunteered their valuable time and resources to the many cold cases back home in New England.

Thanks for the explanation about the group of volunteer private investigators as well. I will hope and pray that SOLID LEADS continue to come in each and every single day until Maura has been found and justice served.

I enjoy telling others down here in NC, whom are nearing retirement from many different aspects of LE, about all of the kindhearted experts whom dedicate their time to the many missing persons and unsolved cold cases. Urging them to consider this themselves.
