Where is MAURA MURRAY

Hello everyone,

Speaking of Maura´s studies at the UMass Amherst Nursing School it would seem to me (from what I´ve been able to read) that this is one of the toughest courses of its kind in the US.

Not only is it apparently extremely hard to be accepted as a student but once "in" the studies and clinicals are apparently quite gruelling.

I was thinking of Maura, having to keep up with the pace of all this (however smart & gifted), coping with a long-distance relationship with Billy, worrying about Billy and her sister J. perhaps being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, working two jobs (security & gallery) with late-night hours (security), etc.

Maura must have been under enormous pressure to cope with all this...
The more I think about it the more I seem to realise that she might well have felt extremely stressed out by her situation.

I´d be really, really disappointed otherwise...

Seriously, I do happen to think that Topix should consider scrapping this utterly nonsensical concept of judging other posts.
Hitting buttons indiscriminately is just too much fun for some clueless people with nothing better to do, but what could one expect from an unmoderated forum?

The only thing I´m implying in my post 4392 is that Maura very understandably may have been under so much pressure that she desperately needed to take an "unauthorised" week off and just relax.
Don´t you think?

Thanks, Shack! I fixed the entry, also removed the info about you getting the keys for the investigators, as the fact you have a relative with access would indicate you could help if the building needed to be searched again. Hope that was okay to do.

Hello everyone,

I keep coming back to a previous poster´s unconfirmed information regarding a supposed rumour as for a proposed search along NH Rte 118 in the Glencliff/Mount Moosilauke area.

I´ve been doing some "journalistic" web research on that geographical area and the only things I come up with is the Glencliff Home for the Elderly (the ex-Sanatorium) and the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge, located on Ravine Road in the midst of the wilderness off Rte 118 halfway between Glencliff and North Woodstock/Lincoln.

Apparently, the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge is quite a big structure, owned by Dartmouth College and run by the Dartmouth Outing Club. There is a very nice web link available on the main web site for Dartmouth College.

I know it´s a long shot, but I´m allowing myself to think "outside the box" here, trying to find any kind of theoretical, possible connections between Maura and this part of the White Mountains, however vague they may seem.

Chalet/A-Frame. I would NOT be the POC for access. I leave that in the hands of the investigator(s)..they have the information.

Does anyone know where Maura was planning on doing her graduate work for her masters? Dartmouth College maybe? It's not far from where her vehicle was discovered and is an EXCELLENT school for various medical professionals.

Yes, a theoretically possible Dartmouth College connection doesn´t seem entirely implausible.
If we allow ourselves the luxury of further speculation on this line, then how did Maura´s Saturn (whoever was driving it there) come to end up at the Weathered Barn curve in Swiftwater?
All available circumstantial evidence would surely indicate that Maura (?) was coming from the west (Woodsville) direction and travelling east on Rte 112.

I would consider it highly unlikely, but could the Saturn have been driven (or possibly towed) from the east in the direction towards Woodsville, rather than the opposite?
Would it then have ended up the way it did in the snow bank by the Weathered Barn?

I´ve also been studying the Google Maps of the area to find all the available roads linking NH Rte 25 (Pike - Oliverian Valley - Glencliff) with Swiftwater.
From the west there are:

1. Brushwood Road, going north from Rte 25 at Pike, then crossing Rte 116 (Haverhill - Benton) and continuing as French Pond Road to Rte 112 at Swiftwater.

2. Long Pond Road (ex-North-South Road), a Forest Service Road between Glencliff in the south and continuing north to Rte 116 near Benton. From there Bradley Hill Road leads directly to Rte 112 at the intersection with the houses of the SBP and the CW.
This road is likely closed for traffic in the winter.
Does anyone here know whether the Long Pond Road is actually passable in winter or whether it is as a rule being closed for all unauthorised non-Forest Service traffic?

3. NH Rte 118 from Glencliff to Rte 112 at Lost River just west of Lincoln/North Woodstock, and from there westwards on Rte 112 to Swiftwater.

The timing between Maura leaving Amherst 4:30ish and Woodsville 7ish...
doesn't allow any time for her to be cruising around those back roads.
And, she had already left behind Dartmouth Hanover area 30 - 45 minutes before
she arrived in Swiftwater/Bath/Woodsville.
I recall Beth saying that she thought Hanover College town would have made sense....but....
Coming from the East makes no sense timing wise because she would have had to go 93 in NH (not 91 in VT)
Because I travel from 93 to Warren,Glencliff, Oliverian, Pike to
Brushwood Rd to 10 to Woodsville..I am aware.
(from Warren it is approx 3/4 hour.to Woodsville)

If you take just a plain ol map of NH/VT...from the MA line North just eyeing 91/93 one can see what the difference would be.
Rte 93 NH from Amherst to Woodsville would be more than an hour longer than 91 VT.
I think she was just following familiar town names...and..the egress/junction 302/10 and 112 looks deceiving because of the
seemingly wide entrance...guessing at least,
a 6 car width entrance....
like a funnel orifice narrowing quickly to the spout.
Then ....dark and curvy...perfect place for a "first accident"

Long Pond Rd is open during the winter, weather permitting. During snowy winters it is often closed though. As I remember it, that winter, we had a camp in Lisbon and by February we had about 3 feet of snow on the ground as we didn't plow.

Hey Philip, if you are infering that maybe there really wasn't a call, USMass police discovered the location from which the call came but had no way to identify who made the call.

Re: suspicious red pick-up in the immediate area of the Stage Stoppe Store and Snowbank/112. Here are a few of the 6 (it was mentioned) red pick-ups stopped around the time Maura disappeared. It was hard to tell 2/9 from 2/10. Looks like red pickups were singled out in Grafton County. If it matters, maybe those who know more can correct and add to this beginning list...

8:29 am red 2001 ford pu style side -- NH plates

5:26 am red ford pu f250 -- narrative says NH temp registration, red and white in color -- I guess this is one people thought could've been confused with Mass. plates, but were assured by a witness that they weren't NH temp plates, were Mass plates.

5:50 am 1998 ford pu ranger [can't read the color]

6:36 am red 1996 dodge pu -- VT plates

7:58 am bge/red 1993 chev pu s14 -- accident -- NH plates

Maybe Kathleen's initial reaction was correct then. Maura just wanted to get off the hook for working the last hour that night and perhaps the following night or two?

P.S. to previous post. Didn't intend to be mean to Maura, it's just that her Dad was coming in and they were going to car shop and spend time together... so it'd make sense to try to get out of that (unbelievable) work schedule for the weekend...

hi all.my point was and is that nobody heard the call to Maura but as LG said umass police were able to verify the call was placed to Maura at the desk.LG did this come from the old forum or do you have other places to go to verify .i have to ask where did most of the information come from and who controlled what we are allowded to know about Mauras' prior life. and that great statement there are no secrets only unknowns.Amherst has lots to tell.take care philip

in the time line..wish we had that...and her reporting of meeting with HPD...saying they would give her notes afterwards....NOT!! She was
forth right in her entries. Also, she answered

Seeing her on 20/20 was the way she is/was.

stops by PO Cas...of red trucks..which is why I
don't think that it is a FACT that the truck was
MAss license plate...DL states one such truck was
a NH temp. All stops in Pike Vil, area of Haverhill in those early hours of Tues.

Puhleeze, I have asked this question upside down
and backwards....How come, why, what, where did it become a part of this ...the idea of a possible
person following?...a helper..? a passenger..?
I have never heard or read a word about why this is a theory....What or why would one think that she was not alone..?

When I saw Sharon R. on 20/20 my immediate thought was how beautiful she is. After getting to know her on Maura's forum over the years Sharon is beautiful person both inside and out.
