The emotion is palpable. I remain a dispassionate observer, and have come to believe Maura's disappearance has tapped into the emotions of several who are focused on "the missing" in general.
I may have been the one to ask the hitchhiking question, and might have missed any previous discussion. It's a reasonable theory to consider, but no biggie, otherwise.
It is funny that I don’t remember reading about the hitchhiker theory before I brought it up. I actually thought that I was the one that mentioned it first though I see that you did before I did. I wish someone would have pointed out that it was raised before. Anyway apologies to you for that. I would never try to make a thought or anything else appear to be mine when it wasn’t. Certainly not intentionally. I think that it’s obvious that I try to credit the source of non-original ideas wherever possible.

I also believe you are correct on the ownership question. Who owns Maura’s disappearance? Some seem to have taken it to what I remember in the playground. It I very similar to the “I love her more that you do” you sometimes hear children argue. To that argument I would say maybe you do. That doesn’t mean you are helping further the finding of Maura that this forum is purportedly seeking to accomplish. There are certainly some here that have such a strong emotional investment in this that they take it personally and anything, even if it is truthful they lash out.

Something else I am willing to bet on. If by chance you and I disagree on something and I point out why I disagree, I assume you will still be my “friend” and not start calling me names like a meanie or poopie head? You won’t try to derail the entire thread by spouting things that make me respond with answers that further delays the purpose of this forum? I suspect you won’t but I wonder why others feel the need to.
I will add though that I do see a lot in your posts that I do agree with.

And Paris I do realize that. That is why I keep trying to contribute. I am also pretty sure that is JMO’s reason to continue. If you think this is actually fun for me or that I don’t have other things that I could be doing you would be entirely wrong.

A separate comment....

Indeed, Bill, it was you who asked the first question about a possible hitchhiker. I merely followed with the same question by repeating the inquiry.

Well, Bill, the personal interactions on blogs make a fascinating study, apart from the topic/subject matter. The playground thing is spot on.

Perhaps it is just human nature to split any discussion right down the middle...50% will agree and 50% will disagree. The election may prove that, as well.

My writing style is enhanced by every attempt to communicate clearly, but with few exceptions, I find the replies on the Maura thread to be suspiciously vague and/or accusatory. What could be the hidden agenda? I dunno'.

Anyway, I appreciate your compliment that I "get it"... and take it as evidence of successful communication.

Once again, whether Maura is found by chance, by intent, by opportunity, or by the influence of a higher power...it will, hopefully, come about.

Maura's car, packed with extra clothing, shoes, school books, accident form, book with a photograph of her brother tucked inside, tooth whitener, birth control pills, toiletries, Joseph, jewelry etc minus 3 liquor bottles and backpack was found damaged on Rte 112 in the Swiftwater, NH area the night of 2/9/04.
Maura wasn't with her car. Where is Maura Murray.??

Just wondering if someone knew the answer to my question from yesterday. I wasnt sure if gvmeabrk was quoting something, or saying they had seen Maura.

Also, my grandparents led me to believe that a stonewall was something someone used to keep another off their property ie: keeping someone out of "their" business..........hmmmmmmmm... .

Ah yes. Another useful contributor. Kind of makes you wonder where she would have run off to with the alcohol and backpack doesn’t it. Why was that the most important thing to grab? Why grab just that and nothing else?

At least your small list doesn’t have the continual trailing off of words and thoughts this time. Usually so much so I can’t usually figure out what the hell you are trying to say. I understand tying several thoughts together is taxing for some and trying to express them in a manner that others can understand can be difficult as well. Was that succinct enough for you or was I being too wordy again?

We can play these games continuously or get back to the matter at hand. Up to you. I have the time.

Hey Half Moon,

I specifically remember Weeper announcing that all leads were followed up on and both the Volunteer Private Investigators and LE have hit a brick wall.

I know Mr. Murray has used the phrase stone wall when discussing his repore with LE and the AG. Your defination fits the bill to a tee.

I think brick wall may mean more like a dead end.

Weeper stated not too long ago that ALL possible sightings of Muara have been followed up on and they've been ruled out. It was right about the time Euro and others were asking about the Vermont sighting.

Gvmeabrk was speaking from her own personal experience and went against the wishes of her husband by speaking up about it and coming forward. She believes it was Maura so I can understand he being discouraged by hearing that her lead had been followed up on and ruled out. She was at convenience store with her grandson when a woman behind her mouthed the words, "Please help me". The store was packed so Gvmeabrk the exchange lasted several minutes according to Gvmeabrk. The man that was with the woman has been identified as a transient laborer, interior house painter to be exact.

I'll let Gvmeabrk tell the rest........

I personally know a woman on the coast who looks just like Maura with the exception that she has brown eyes, is just tad bit heavier, and is my age (40). I believe the Rochester Bar sighting may very well have been her.

Hello all,

Not wishing to antagonise anyone here, but with all due respect for Weeper and his team, LE, etc, I´m seriously questioning how it could be really feasible to dismiss the purported, possible sightings of Maura in the Barton,VT,church and in NH (by a sometime contributor on this board).

Since presumably no photographs were taken of the two Maura look-alikes, the investigators of these sightings and others are bound to have to rely solely on the memories of the witnesses.

Thanks Shack and Else

Elsewhere-that is exactly what I was trying to say about the stone wall definition. I just couldnt get it to come out correctly.

I will go back and see Gvmeabrk's story, so I dont bore you all, having to hear it again.

I WILL, though, tell you the reason for my question. In one of the posts I read the words paint and indoor, in regards to a sighting involving a man and Maura. What came to my mind instantly, was not transient or anything related to house painting, it was artist! Like the type that are in galleries. Now, I am beating my head into a brick/stone wall thinking that this has probably been discussed in great lengths, before my recent arrival...

Feel free to smack me, but if they identified the person in the store as a transient laborer, I will assume they went as far as to positively identify the woman he was with that needed someone's help. I know that sounds synical, sorry.

Half Moon,

A very interesting observation of yours there, which I haven´t seen mentioned before.
Presuming the man in question may well be an artist and Maura working in an Amherst gallery - well, it certainly adds a highly interesting, possible new lead here...

Does this affect your opinion that this remains a missing person case??

From http://www.unionleader.com/article....ec-4d23... from Superior Court Judge Vaughn regarding Fred Murray's request for records:

Vaughn sided with the state.

“(The state) maintain(s) that release of the records could result in the destruction of evidence, chilling and intimidation of witnesses and the revelation of the scope and nature of the investigation,” Vaughn wrote.

Murray has been critical of how the investigation into his daughter’s disappearance has been conducted. He contends that the information gathered over the past two years could help his own efforts in finding his daughter. A group of private investigators is looking into the case.

“Considering that it sometimes takes several years — even decades — for the state to prosecute major crimes, a lapse of two years is not a long period of time,” Vaughn wrote.“Release of the records could jeopardize the investigation and lead to, among other things, destruction of evidence, intimidation of witnesses and loss of communications with entities providing confidential information.”

I don't know the legal implications of this ruling. Does the judge have leeway to nuance, parse or otherwise mislead here, or has this indeed become a criminal case??

Hey Whiston,

Sorry, Rochester, New Hampshire.

Yes Half Moon,

The woman at the counter knew who the man was as well as his trade.

I can see why you'd think about an artist/painter considering that Maura worked at an art gallery.

Euro,

I fully understand your questions about the sightings but I've got to put my faith in someone and it's always been in the Volunteer Private Investigators.

Everything I've read about Maura and her personality represents that she is the type of girl who never gave her family a moments worry.

If Maura had left on her own free will she would have contacted her family to let them know she was alive and well, at least by now.

Even when people suffer from amnesia or fugue disorder I think it is pretty safe to say their ingrained personality traits still remain the same.

Half Moon,
Maybe someone from the gallery does fit that mans make and model. Hopefully someone in position will read this and check it out, talk with old eployees, etc.
It would be helpful to know too if and how they determined who that man was. It's not every day that someone mouths "please help me" in a grocery store. Wonder what they did with that info. As in, who was with you that day Mr X. It was reported you were in the company of whom? and the woman was in duress. Who was she?
I find this very odd and hope to God that police actually *did* locate and talk with that man.

Hello Elsewhere,

As regards cases of Fugue or other varieties of severe amnesia, it is my distinct impression (based on everything that I have read pertaining to these states) that the repercussions can be so severe that the basic personality characteristics get "overwhelmed" by the Fugue state or similar conditions.
Just a general kind of information...

Hello paris,

I quite agree with what you´re writing here.
Apparently the man in the NH convenience store has been located.
His presumed occupation seems to indicate that he may be rather itenerant, moving from one place to another depending where his work may take him.

Perhaps he´s a part-time artist apart from doing other sorts of more "mundane" painting/decorating work?
