paris & all,
If Maura´s Saturn was indeed "planted" in order to fake an accident on Rte 112 at the Weathered Barn, then why in that particular spot?
Just a co-incidence, or more than that?
Three possibilities, as I see it:
1. Complete co-incidence
2. A matter of LE jurisdiction:
The spot where the Saturn was found is part of Haverhill PD jurisdiction, while almost all of Rte 112 further west towards Woodsville comes under Bath PD jurisdiction.
A little bit further east, just past Bradley Hill Road, Rte 112 enters the White Mtns National Park/Forest land.
3. The whole purpose of a faked accident at this particular spot was to give the impression that Maura had been coming from the direction of Woodsville and was driving east towards Lincoln, losing control of the Saturn at the Weathered Barn curve and then ending up in the snowbank.
In my mind Maura is going along with wine kept in the back from the weekend partying, not wanting to keep it in her room. She's upset and maybe cold but presses on. She either hits into something herself or is driven into a situation beyond her control. Someone else enters the picture. WHAT TIME DID THE LONDONBERRY CALL TRY TO REACH HER CELL? Was it a hint to her......I'll call, you won't pick up, I'll expect to see you at x and such as planned? Then comes interception and the Saturn is driven away by two other people while Maura is safe or not safe in the area of someone she was supposed to meet with, bring something to, whatever it was...
Or did she just keep driving, stop in WRJ and someone already had her on the radar? The spider crack, the hood and headlights, did they all happen at once or in two attempts to keep pressing on?
In this vision Maura has been tricked into trusting a situation and the person knows to get that car as far away from wherever might give them away?
I can't believe it was Maura and it's hard to believe it was an accident just because of all the stories and especially trying to say they thought it was Fred driving, people do that, get drunk, leave their cars, to go snowmobiling and park them happens.........remember all that?

Elsewhere, yes......female left in private vehicle. So, what female? what vehicle? the Saturn or something else then?
Send everyone back, clear the roads, you can't see this? Only to draw attention, call it out as though it were the first and only reference to the Saturn 'accident' at all?

hi all i think we can agree that someone called Maura monday pm feb 09 04.whether it was the insurance company or whomever we dont know yet.it is just another example of what Mauras' family has refused to talk about in public.who has the 20 20 show i did not record it.again i will say for the new people here.Maura had 2 jobs at Amherst, one at a security desk in Melville hall.she could have thrown a ham sandwich from the roof of her dorm and hit it .thats how close it was.one at a gallery which we have never been allowed to know about because the family does not know.also Amherst has been 'deemed not important by Fred'.i will gladly eat my words in the future but until i know why Amherst is such a taboo ,hold the napkins.what about her clinicals .where were they .where are her clasmates.i wont' post there names here ,god forbid they may have to pick up a phone or give something here.dozens of people knew what Mauras routine and class schedule was.where are they.i have spoken with some of there parents and they say it is just too upsetting to talk about.either they know, they dont care or they have been asked not to talk which all comes back to Mauras prior life.even before Amhesrt.3 people that knew her say she was very secretive. her supervisor said to me how she ate dinner alone and what not.i just burned that bridge .Looking4amoose this is where you jump in and help explain trauma .yes i am pissed off Shack please call me.philip
Philip, do we know that it was FRED who deemed Amherst not important? I don't recall hearing that specifically, simply that the investigation was focused elsewhere. The most specific discussion about Amherst not being the center of the discussion, in fact, came from WEEPER ON THIS FORUM.

White wash....food for thought here. Take from it what nutrition you choose:

I have formed more of a judgment about the people of the Grafton County area from your postings than I ever did from Shack's comments.

"Clinicals" have been mentioned often here, but I have never read, or perhaps have missed, knowing how far along Maura was in her nursing studies at UMASS Amherst.
Had she completed the body of prerequisites that even qualified her for clinicals at the time of her disappearance?
Not being familiar with the nursing program at UMass, but with that of another college's, I can only say that it's possible she transferred at least some of those prerequisites from West Point. Don't know her classload there, but even as an engineering major she undoubtedly had some of the prerequisites, and of course West Point has a pretty high academic standard, so I'm certain West Point credits are good elsewhere.:)

Hey Ben,

Sophie Bean gets knocked around enough by Bill and others on a regular basis and I've refrained from saying anything because Sophie is known as 'Trinity' in other circles so I know she can hold her own...lol.

However, you are mistaken about her doing nothing.

Sophie has been an active member on MMM since its inception and has contributed quite a bit. Sophie has handed out flyers and still continues to post flyers while she is out hiking. She has also made trips to the Swiftwater area letting us know about what she may have seen or experienced.

Sophie has been praised by the MMM moderators for remaining on topic (always focusing on Maura and not talking about herself) while others, very including myself here, have strayed or gone off on irrelevant tangents.

Please don't knock Sophie Bean, she's a good egg all around.

<quoted text> Maura transfeered to UMass as a chemical engineering student and was making honors. She didn't transfer to the nursing program until January 2003 and UMass' Nursing program is very prestigious--it has very high standards for acceptance so her goals were still quite lofty--
Here's a question--might it have been easier for Maura to transfer to the nursing program as an internal transfer? Might they not have accepted her right away because of the prerequisites I was just talking about above? In other words....is it possible she transferred to UMass with the intent of going into the nursing program when it became feasible for her to do so?

I do see several cars along 112 on any given day or night that are left on the side of the road--sometimes people hunting, hiking, photographing...among other things along the river and the trails. It's not an uncommon sight.

That reminds me, wasn't there an accident reported on Route 10 that same night?

I'm looking at the map included on Maura's flyer and it shows Route 10 North of the Saturn's final resting place.

It could happen that way, but most nursing schools prefer you to submit your transfer in the late spring for the upcoming fall semester.

Yes but within an hour or so this one was hauled away and so on..........
How do you explain the conversation with family?
I'm not thinking you should answer that, especially to me but think about it please.

Thanks. Needless to say, I don't actually WORK at the nursing school. Nor in admissions.

Hey Euro,

I just read in Wiki that Route 112 is a state owned and maintained highway. I was totally unaware of this until today. I actually went back and re-read it twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken.

For the State Trooper to say it was out of his jurisdiction makes little sense to me. To the best of my recollection a Highway Patrol Officer was never at the scene.

Am I missing something?

Answered my own question, sorry.

The jurisdiction of the State Police is limited to toll roads, interstate highways and towns or cities under 3,000 that vote not to have a police department.

Hello elsewherebriefly,

So, the state trooper was correct after all, route 112 not being part of his jurisdiction at that point.
On the other hand, why did the state trooper in question stop and ask witness RO if she had seen someone walking along rte 112 in Swiftwater?
He was apparently taking a very active interest in such a person, none the less...
So looking for a person on foot in the Swiftwater area was part of the state trooper´s active duties, but Maura´s Saturn was not.
Hmmmm...

Ideas, please...
