For the record, I did not mean this in a negative way. I understand that there may be certain things the family does not want to disclose, nothing wrong with that. I was just saying this may be one of those instances. |

Hopefully that individual will come back soon - but in the interim - maybe every once in a while (not too often - its not a joke) we can quote your message for you keep the question alive. |
Judged: 1 1 1 Just curious. How many times have you had several people talking to the witnesses. Your statement comfirms what several have tried to say for a long time. The people have been questioned to death and by not only the LE but several people sent out by whoever "we" is. Since you claim to be PI then I take it that PI's were doing the questioning. It a proven fact when people are questioned many times over, facts do change over time. I believe IMO that all of this questioning most certainly made the investigation much harder for the LE and to do their job. |

Sorry for duplicate post. Looked like my first post got erased, but then showed up again.

Judged: 2 Ross, I don't know if you are aware that Maura was also a relatively new driver, though she was 21. She'd only been driving what, about six months? This was her first winter as a driver. So her not talking and driving at the same time may well be more likely than someone who'd had their license since the age allowed. |

Judged: 1 Ahh good point I didnt think of that. Still dont know why she wouldnt call at all during the trip, like maybe when she is getting gas or something like that. |

Judged: 3 1 1 When Sgt Smith arrived on scene and discovered the reported person at the car was not there, he would have most likely called Dispatch to ask Dispatch to call back the Atwood's and inquire as to whether they had seen the person leave after their initial 911 call. This is why, on the dispatch report, Barbara Atwood answers the phone and says "we don't know where the female is." Atwood left his porch and went to his bus when he saw law enforcement arrive. Atwood was on his bus when Dispatch would have called back, at Sgt Smith's request; hence, Barbara Atwood answered the phone. This is a customary procedure for law enforcement. When they arrive on scene, if the call they are responding to is not as it was reported in the initial 911 call, they will request Dispatch to call the reporting party to either update the call/ask additional questions. |

Confusing/mixed up statements from witnesses could happen because 1) over time their story unintentionally changes or 2) they are intentionally changing their stories. Focusing on the 2nd - why would someone do that? Fear? Of what? Would that answer to that question turn us down to the right path to aid in solving this mystery? Continually spinning wheels - there's gotta be something out there to help us....

Also... you get (and see) what you focus on. There could be a parade going down the street, and you would remember it, because it is obvious, but the quiet figure walking down the street, almost out of your line of vision gets forgotten, since you are distracted by the parade.

Before, approximately 30 minutes. The Saturn may already have passed by the store before RO arrived and saw the red truck leave because witness FW, who called 911 to report the accident at 7:27 pm, told the cops that she heard the loud thump, looked out the window, and saw the Saturn backed into the snowbank a little after 7 pm. Looks like the accident happened very close to the time RO saw the red truck. From Lady Gray's message #1200 @ p.59, quoting RO. "I wish I could give an exact description of the truck but I can not. I was walking that night about 7 p.m to the local store. As I was walking up the hill, a truck passed me and slowed down. When it got to the middle of the hill it stopped in the road. I immediately looked at the plate and noticed it was from Massachusetts. There is only 1 street light there and I could not tell how many people were in the vehicle. As I got closer to the truck it took off up the hill. When I rounded the corner to the store, I could see the truck in the driveway of the store. As I walked into the parking lot, which is well lit, the truck took off toward the crash site,(of course at that time I did not know there was a crash). As for the red truck, it slowed, then stopped and waited for me to get closer, then took off up the hill. He did not leave the store parking lot in any sort of hurry. When I entered the store I asked if she saw the people in that truck and she said no, no one had come in. I told her about them stopping in the hill. Then we just forgot about it." *** "I was in the Swiftwater store for 1/2 hour - 45 minutes. It was about 20-30 minutes after I was there that the police went by. I am not at all Maura's size and in fact I was bundled up that night. I believe I caught the truck off guard as I was walking well off the road and as they passed I walked back on, which is why I believe they stopped completely. They could not see me without any street lights and maybe went to the store and waited for me to get up there to get a better look??? I don't know. That is just how it seemed to me." |

After some years RO seems to have ID'ed the truck as being similar to a Ford F250 with a small back window. IIRC..... this was on the MMM forum. |

Judged: 1 1 1 I know the driving conditions were poor, and she hadn't been driving more than 6-8 months, but if she was so inexperienced why would she risk drinking and driving????? |

I've owned several cell phones over the years(only one at a time). I've always had to enter a code or PIN to retrieve my messages from voicemail, which is why I assumed Maura's cell service with Sprint worked the same way. Plus, it makes sense to me that the service provider would require the caller to input the code, due to privacy considerations, even if the call originates from the user's cell phone. Otherwise, anyone with possession or access to the user's cell phone could access the user's voicemail account. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to discover that the FCC regs require cellular service providers to limit access to the user's voicemail and account by requiring the caller to input the PIN.
I think all cell phones are programmable so that the user can enter phone numbers in their list of contacts and assign a quick-dial number to any name in the list of contacts saving the trouble of paging through a long list of contacts to find a phone number, but I'm not aware of a way of entering the user's code or PIN as an extension of, for example, the voicemail access number. With my present phone, I can access my voicemail either by dialing my cell number with the area code first, or I can quick-dial it by pressing 1. If I'm using another phone to retrieve my messages, I have to dial the voicemail access number, which is a different number. However, no matter what phone I use to retrieve my voicemail, I still have to enter my PIN. Does anyone reading this message use Sprint as their service provider? Better question is did you use Sprint in February 2004? If so, did you have to input your PIN to access your voicemail? |

I'm positive...I am one of those sorry people afflicted with carrying 2 cell phones--one for a personal consulting business I own and 1 for my full time job as a community based nurse. I have to use my password for the Verizon phone but not for the Sprint phone (as long as I call from my cell phone) |
