Something I want to try and make clear re: organizing the forum w/various threads. I don't think any of us want to "reinvent the wheel." There are organizational resources available to us already - such as the chart & other work that has been done by our forum team. My way of thinking is along the lines of creating threads in Topix that will 1) direct people to those resources already developed 2) piecing apart our current forum and referencing posts with new information, new theories, new facts (if there are any!, etc). Without a search ability within this current Topix forum, it's very difficult, time consuming, pain in the butt when someone asks where they can find specific information.
Does this make sense? Do you guys want me to drop it? SnowyW, were you thinking along the same lines?

Hi, ScooterD ~

My plum puddings were overdone by an hour late last nite...oh, well.

Truthfully, I never need another job to do...my plate is very full...BUT...I enjoy organizing, and have been frustrated by the dizzying/broken trains of thought.

At the very least, we'd be able to access a certain topic and find associated posts within....and, importantly, folks can continue discussions within the threads.

Once they are cut and pasted, they won't be consecutive, as they can't be juggled and rearranged on a thread.

Yes, I see pieceing apart the current forum...taking what exists...l and grouping posts in threads that are consistent with subject matter. Some posts may need to be included in two threads.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyone?!?

Seriously, I don't believe the person or persons who picked her up knew the area, so they got out of there as fast as they could without drawing attention. I think Maura was killed and dumped somewhere that was familiar to her killer and, since she willingly got into his or her vehicle, there would not have been any immediate need to kill her.

The Green River Killer used to drive down little-traveled roads and pull over and stop in a place with good visibility in both directions. He had the dead body stashed in the bed of the pickup truck, usually wrapped in a tarp. He'd pull the rolled up tarp out of the truck and stash it beside the road in a depression or behind some bushes so it would not be visible from the road. Then, he got back into the truck and drove it a few hundred yards or more down the road to another location, such as a pull-out, where he parked it. He hiked back to where he dumped the body and pulled the tarp into the woods to the edge of a ravine or someplace far enough that would not be visible from the road. Then he unrolled the body, rolled up the tarp, hiked back to his truck, stashed the tarp, and drove home. Sometimes he covered the body with brush, but most of the time he didn't bother.

He didn't have to worry about blood evidence because his strangled his victims with ligatures.

When you think about it, this is a pretty easy and fool-proof method to get rid of a body. And, he did this after dark all within the boundaries of King County, WA.

He did this many times without ever being detected.

As long as that phone kept pinging, whether she used it or not, the phone's location could be tracked from tower to tower until someone turned it off or the battery died. That could be 36 to 48 hours, or more, depending on the make and model of the phone.
According to the mauramurraymissing website, she had a Samsung SPH-A620/VGA1000 and there's a picture of it with all of the specs that you can review. Click on the link to the accident report and its listed along with phtos of the car. Click on the link to the phone and you're there. Looks like it had all or most of the bells and whistles.
From what I've read, only the last few pings would be saved--I guess they over write each other. If she went up 93 onto 112 then she owuld've lost her signal not long after taking exit 32 and turning right onto 112 (it still loses the signal almost immediately after crossing Rte. 3) and if she came up 302/10, I get reception up to the round gift store that's across the street from the round barn. Not sure what reception was like in 2004 over there though.

In NH its a 3 bedroom, 2 bath saltbox built 0n about 1970 on 2/3 of an acre...our taxes are higher than the rest of the town though, being in the area that we are in

In RI it's a 4 bedroom bungalow built in 1930 on a 120 x 100 lot.

I realized just before I fell asleep last night that Maura's phone was probably pinging all the way from Amherst to the accident site and after, assuming it was turned on. She had the charger with her because it was in the Saturn when the cops searched it.
Question: Was the charger the type that plugs into the cigarette lighter of a car, or one that plugs into an electrical wall socket? If the former, she probably had her phone on and hooked up to it during the drive and she unplugged a fully charged phone from the charger cord when she left the Saturn. Right?
That's another indicator that she intended to return to the car.
Now that we're all experts on pinging, does anyone know if the cops checked to see if the cell towers between Amherst and Woodsville picked up her pinging phone and, if so, the times that she crossed from one zone to another?
We have reason to believe that Sprint's coverage didn't extend to the accident scene, but what about after 7:45 pm when her phone was in her backpack?
She went somewhere. If she went W/B on the 112, it seems likely to me that a tower would have picked up her pinging phone.
If she made it, or her backpack made it to the North Woodstock/Lincoln area where the 112 meets up with I-93 N/B, seems to me that there would be a Sprint tower there that would have picked up her pinging phone if it was on and we would know when that happened.
What do ya'll think of that?
Sharon (Billy's mom) could find out because the phone was on her account.
"but what about after 7:45 pm when her phone was in her back pack?" How is it you know her phone was in her backpack pack?

his victims were prostitutes though. So being they were easy to pick without anyone noticing , willing to drive to locations that were not well traveled and tended not to be reported missing for some time. Killer is also able to plan . prostitution is not a one time thing. Chances are if you see her out there one night she'ee be out there again so killer has chance to plan. This would not be true in Mauras case. This is the main reason I don't buy random abduction. This abduction had to occur in the minutes between time sbd leaves and pd shows up. The is no time for planning. Will agree that this is a back road but far from desserted there are houses on either side. Many residents are aware of accident already. Yet no report of yelling , no sign of struggle, no time for a plan, yet the perfect abduction. seems too lucky to me.

If it wasn't in the car, can't we assume it was with her? In the backpack?

It wasn't found in the car, or in her room at school. The cops found a regular charger and a cigarette charger in the car. Therefore, I assume she took the phone with her when she drove north.

Maybe she placed it in a pocket; maybe she placed it in her backpack.

The point is that it would have been pinging, if it was turned on, and it would have been pinging for a long time, if it was fully charged. Therefore, it should be possible to trace her route up to the point where cell reception ended and picked up where it resumed, unless she never emerged from that cellilar dead zone.

Do you know if the cops checked out that possibility?

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I am not suggesting Maura was into prostitution. I am suggesting that she knew the person whose vehicle she voluntarily got into because she had arranged to meet that person somewhere farther east to get rid of the Saturn.

I'm suggesting that person is responsible for the hit and run on Vasi while driving the Saturn and that person killed Maura to keep her from connecting him to that accident.

The rest of my answer regarding getting rid of a body may describe how this unknown person got rid of her body after killing her, or it may not. It's only a theory at this point.

My dear Firecat,
Where exactly can you fit a wall inside a 1996 Saturn?
Our demo derby delight keeps getting more and more interesting, doesn't it, Watson?
Smartass. Yes, presumably it means that she was intending to end up somewhere with a wall. And an electrical outlet.

Goat - I do not know RO personally. I was active on the MMMForum at the same time she was and I do believe that she was a reliable source. When people post many times, like she did, you generally get a good feel for their character, mission, motives, whatever. I'm sure the others would comment if they felt otherwise about her, but that's my opinion.

why so nitpicky? it was stated that Maura did not carry a purse, she either had it in a pocket or backpack?
