Lady Gray, I am addressing this post to you becuase we shared and discussed numerous articles and information about other crimes on MMM. I came across this article the other night and it's one I've never read before. It relates to a serial rapist in South Portland, Maine in 2000. Each of the cases and ages of women were very different but were all linked to the same perpetrator. FYI to Newcomers - Route 302 leads you directly to Portland Maine. "Of those cases we know of, you can see the violence escalating,'' Portland Police Chief Michael Chitwood said. "There may be some cases we haven't documented.'' Turvey, the criminal profiler, said it's a good bet there are more victims out there and suggested departments within a 500-mile radius be alerted." http://www.corpus-delicti.com/pressherald_041...

I don't know where the idea came from that we're near a solution here - except that some folks said it felt that way.
There are several possible explanations as to what might have happened to Maura. Although the dump the car because I might be blamed for someone else's crime theory could be one - I've already started to state why I have serious doubts. The end result of your theory is to search the White Mountains again - which I don't disagree with - but further out then what has been searched. However - we also have to consider that some thought and expertise was behind the search.
However - I think it just as possible that a truck driver or any motorist en route to anywhere in the continental United States could have picked her up and taken her and left her anywhere - never noticed by any witnesses because it could have been a few miles up from the site where no one lives.
Her being kidnapped after the accident is one of the possibilities I see as valid - which leaves us little to discuss - so I haven't got into it much - nothing to go on except the reported after sightings - which Weeper says he has checked.
This is what Elsewhere briefly believes and I see a basis for it.
Euro makes a reasonable point that we don't know for certain that she ever left Amherst - we've gone over the why's of this buried in here some time ago.
I'm not at all ruling out a confederate - that would be needed to start a new life - another possibility.
Also consider that if she was harmed at Amhurst - who is to say that whoever did it (if so)- didn't find the books in her car already - or put her books in the car.
Also consider the police checked dispatch logs along I-93 if there was any kind of ping evidence - well - we'd see those logs from along I-91. Very doubtful that the phone went there with her *at least charged up*- we can only place her phone in Massachusetts.
The problem with the Vasi connection is that it is a coincidence and Maura was employed to open and close a dorm door - likely at a reasonably busy time - not easy to get away - I doubt possible. I doubt the car was loaned - I doubt she would suddenly drive the car when she refused to before and I don't think a borrowed car crime is a compelling reason - no one would really believe that they would be jailed or bankrupted based on another person's actions, risk everything for it.
Further motel rooms were looked for.

This surprised me: "had a tone that we've already crossed the finish line."! To me there's still as many questions needing answers. Questions may be passed cuz who the heck knows the answers with such little info available. Could be the problem many of us have when conveying through email/forums - without seeing the facial expressions, hearing the tone of voice, ya never know what or how things are really being said. The only thing known for sure is no, we don't have the answer or Maura would be found. I hope I'm wrong but it's far from the finish line.

Here's a link to the specs on the cell phone Maura carried. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php... Citigirl, Detective Landry was interested in finding out who called Maura's cell phone from the area within the Londonderry cell tower zone during the late afternoon and early evening hours of February 9th. According to the affidavit he filed to get a search warrant of Sprint's records, the call was placed somewhere within 22 miles of that tower. The tower is located 11 miles SSE of Manchester. The zone of coverage extends south to about 2.5 miles south of Billerica, MA and east to Amesbury, MA.. It extends to a bit over 3 miles west of Wilton, NH and north not quite to Concord, NH. A perhaps more relevant factor to consider is that it extends to a point on I-93 N/B that is about 2 miles before the exit to I-89, which goes NW to White River Junction (63 miles)where it hooks up with I-91 N/B. From there, it's only 45 miles to Woodsville, NH. In other words, it's 108 miles to Woodsville, NH from the maximum reach of cell coverage from the Londonderry Tower on I-93 traveling by way I-89 to White River Junction, VT and I-91 to Woodsville, or less than a 2-hour drive. Alternatively, from the same location on I-93 it's about 92 miles to Woodsville taking I-93 to North Woodstock, NH and Rte 112 W/B to Woodsville, NH. It takes about the same amount of time to drive because you have to drive so much slower on Rte 112. Put another way, the person who called Maura from within the Londonderry Tower zone could have reached the scene of the accident just past the Weathered Barn by 7:30 pm if he or she placed that call no later than 5:30 pm on Monday, or a little earlier depending on where the caller was located within that zone of coverage. For reasons I have previously expressed (see messages 9438-9441 at p. 469), identifying this caller could be very important to solving Maura's disappearance.

Truthfully, I never need another job to do...my plate is very full...BUT...I enjoy organizing, and have been frustrated by the dizzying/broken trains of thought. At the very least, we'd be able to access a certain topic and find associated posts within....and, importantly, folks can continue discussions within the threads. Once they are cut and pasted, they won't be consecutive, as they can't be juggled and rearranged on a thread. Yes, I see pieceing apart the current forum...taking what exists...l and grouping posts in threads that are consistent with subject matter. Some posts may need to be included in two threads. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyone?!? I have that organization need too - can be a problem at times especially when you offer to take on a task of 10,000 posts! LOL Is there a subject or anything specific that you want to take on? Because your 'plate is full' but your willing, maybe you'd like to set up the new threads and I can start cut/paste/enter the info within? Maybe not!:>) Just an idea - let me know when you have a second to post.

Benjamin, your comment in which you said in part,
"Her being kidnapped after the accident is one of the possibilities I see as valid - which leaves us little to discuss - so I haven't got into it much - nothing to go on except the reported after sightings - which Weeper says he has checked."
My theory could be wrong and I hope it is, but it's an explanation that is consistent with all of the facts we have available, which are damn few and far between. Its value is that it offers us an opportunity to ask new questions based on if-this-is-so-then-x type questions. The answers will make or break the theory, which is the way it should be.
Yes, she could have walked away and accepted a ride from a stranger with bad intentions far from the scene of the accident. But is that behavior consistent with what we know about her and if that's what happened where do we go from here? What do we do to prove or disprove it?
I've also proposed a number of new strategies to employ in attempting to find her, if she is still alive, and I think we should follow-up on them.

Lady Gray...standing ovations...I had talked with Citgirl earlier this evening....used pretty much the same words...and thoughts. Personally I don't understand the pleasure it brings...especially on this topic of Maura..which certainly cannot be viewed as a game. To Citigirl and the Murray family, I don't know how you have endured...first the crime..then ..a few sickos trying to be many, who attempt to care. Moderated or not..where are the sensibiities..?
