Can you please find out the exact location of it.
<quoted text>
Read that again and you will see that by definition, the exact location of this cabin is "never-never land." Unless I am misunderstanding the word "not."
People need to be careful and read what is written, not just what they want to see.(I've noticed this for 50-something pages.) There seem to be a LOT of agendas here, and not all of them are held by the people of the former MMM forum, as some would have us believe.
For the record, Shack NEVER called anyone "scum." That's not her style.
For the record I would suggest that you do what I did if it's still possible and go to the MMM site and read previous posts because it's obvious that you haven't read the forum very well.
Since I don't believe everything I hear without proof when I read a comment from someone called Wht Mts or White Mts on another Maura thread here on Topix about someone bashing the locals and calling them terrible names I went and spent two days going through past posts on the MMM site.
I was totally disgusted by what this person called the locals and said about them so don't tell me that that's not her style because I saw what she called them with my own eyes.
I guess this forum is turning into a "us" against "them" just as it was on the other site which is the reason many only lurked on that site and didn't comment.
The difference here is that this is a public site and no one except for Topix runs it. Everyone has a right to give their opinion here even if it's not what some want to hear.
So sad that some of you prefer to walk blindly in circles.

Greetings; I have just spent a good part of my weekend reading these posts. I found this page while I was looking for unsolved murders in the river valley..There are some pretty good ideas here and some real crazy crap..I need to get this info off my chest..
In Aug 1988 I was walking along 302 in Fryeburg Maine (NH border) when I was offered a ride by a man that SEEMED nice enough.I was 22 and naive. To make a long story short, I was beaten and sexually assaulted and left in the woods to rot.
Luckily We have an excellent police force and the man was apprehended a week later. The man called himself the Interstate Man and kept notebooks describing kidnappings and murders all over the US.He claimed involvement in over 30 murders. The police also found quite a collection of knives. The man said that a "force" would come over him and he wanted to be put away so he wouldn't be able to continue. He pleaded guilty to his charges..was sentenced to 20 years, but was out by July of 99. In May of 05 he was apprehended for driving a getaway vehicle of a bank robbery. He'll be out in '09. SOMEONE has got to look into those notebooks and find out if he really WAS involved or if he was just a wannabee. I know this about finding Maura..He was out of jail when she disappeared..Also, Jane Barowski was attacked ONE week before me and he was working in NH at the time. His name was Lovie Lee Riddle Jr. AKA Louie, aka Howard, aka Bear. I have not written any info on this post that cannot be found in newspaper archive. Thanks for letting me vent and my prayers go out to ALL families trying to find answers in this all too often screwed up world.
PS. I have the newspaper clippings where he described many of events.
I admire your courage..

Almost small "cliks" if you will. One person defends their pals opinion. And so on. Good point. I hope it does'nt turn into what you described. I hope everyone keeps an open mind. There is a reason LE will not let an individual officer investigate crimes dealing with family or friends close to them. Not because they can't dal with it. But, because they tend to have a closed mind thought process dealing with the particular event. In turn, causing the guilty to stay free longer or possible never get caught. I think maybe certain people have fell subject to this senerio.

Just my Opinion.....LO YO
I too have wondered this. Has a polygraph been administered? I know it would suck to do a family member, but if the investigaters really wanted to get things rollin. They should insist on this. I know it is not addmissible in court. But many DA's/PA's will use one when questioning a witness to rule out discrepencies.

This is a thought for all are claiming to be Commissioned Investigaters, Detectives, PI's, or whatever. A good detective will never give any info that could alert the guilty unless the guilty are rooted and being watched. And they will never claim someone is wrong in theory without having evidence otherwise. It is saddening that some have tunnle vision, hindering things to progress. I am not singling anyone out. I am simply stating fact..

Wowzer, I was disgusted too by the comments about NH residents I read on another forum. This forum here had such a wide range of posters with brains, good research, knowledge of NH/Haverhill area, and new ideas. Even in some kinda way-out posts you never know -- there can be a gem, a clue. Posters from another forum recently suggested I have an agenda or that I'm trying to control what's going on here. I've gotta say, I've never had the motivation to control ANYthing in my life! What are they talking about? Actually, if I HAVE an agenda it's just to be able to speak freely on this unique forum, without interference. There have been things said HERE that I never heard anywhere else so I hope even tho I'm tempted to walk away that others here will be thick-skinned enough to keep on...particularly those in the area who actually started this topic.

Here's a few different opinions I've collected about the rag they found in Maura;s tailpipe. I'm hoping for some input. And just quick here, when anybody ignores something they act like 3 monkeys, to see no, hear no, say no evil. It's another style of writing. I know Shack and she is intense. I've been thrown out of every click in the world so please just let me try to remind ya'll that we can all help in 50 shades of blue.
__________

The statemant that sgt. smith makes about the rag to the witness is very odd. People from mass use rags to make their car noticed, Nobody does that, anywhere. People turn on their hazard-lights, i find that statemant very weird and possibly even suspicous.

I still live in New England and have relatives in Massachusetts. I don't understand the 'it's what Mass. people do' reference.

If my vehicle has just been disabled why would I insert anything into a very hot exhaust system? It would be easier to open the trunk or hatchback and place a rag or towel over the trunk/hatch gasket and then shut the trunk. It would be even easier to leave the hazard lights on.

Now, if I was trying to help a stranded motorist who had obvious engine compression problems or faulty valves I might place a rag into a tailpipe to look for soot due to poor combustion. In fact, if it was dark and a white towel was handy it might be the easiest way to check.
AS FOR THE RELEASE OF 911 TRANSCRIPTS, POLICE REPORTS, ACCIDENT REPORTS AND SO ON...WELL, THERE'S A RIGHT WAY, A WRONG WAY AND THEN THERE'S THE NEW HAMPSHIRE WAY!!!

I am suprised how many people have seen certain peoples attempts to control the direction of the conversations on the MMM forum and are speaking up now. I am also suprised that more people didn't say something about it when the MMM board was up and running. It might have made a difference. Maybe more people especially locals would have been willing to contribute. Based on what I am seeing here it appears more people would have liked to contribute.

Who says that was said. Is it in a statement somewhere or hearsay? I often find that when something sounds like it might be BS it often is BS. And there is a lot of random BS floating around in this case.

Yup. You're absolutely right. I never read the forum closely. I haven't been involved in that forum, nor the one preceding it, for close to three and a half years. Reading closely isn't my habit, of course, since I'm an English professor for a living. I've also never spoken to Shack privately, regarding this case or other non-related issues including very personal matters, so I would have no idea what her style is, on- or off-site. I've totally made this an us-against-them scenario BY POSTING ONE POST. I'm not convinced that the only "them" in this situation is the person or group of people who harmed Maura.

You're absolutely right, and I've got no idea what I'm talking about, just some mystery agenda. Whatever.

To this, I simply say "Pfffft!" because you obviously know what that must mean, too. Heaven knows *I* surely don't. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with LE's attitude toward disseminating false information and nothing else.

Congratulations. This goes a long way to help Maura and to draw people to her cause. You must be very proud.

You from the old forum know how to find me (as do Helena and Frank, if you don't but wish to). Obviously my open mind isn't wanted here.

Congratulations again. Those who wish to hurt Maura and her family have gained another victory today.

Oh no, this is the truth. Mcsmom, please find your copy of it since I can't just go to the board anymore. I've been banned.

I agree we have to let down our hair and talk about anything no matter how hard it may be. I keep thinking about my own sister who was hunted down and almost died from 2 major attempts at her life. We don't want to offer that she made deals with "the devil", but now that her lifesttle choices have pretty much all been aired, we're getting closer to answers. She cannot talk and when she does it makes no sense from blunt trauma to her head......

I saw locals come and go with very good first hand information on MMM. They were there that night to elaborate on additional policemen, a seemingly lurking red truck, one being able to add that she stopped her car at the scene and witnesses 2 more cars with drivers, lol, they stopped and helped to look for Maura too. I live too far away to blame anybody and I wouldn't anyway but why did it take 2 days to interview neighbors? And why did they say it was Fred driving? Why did the first BOL have Maura as shorter, etc. How did they have her info anyhow for that matter? The BOL was at noonish Tuesday before calling Fred and Billy and by the time Sharon got there, why oh why were the told something other than:

The girl with the rag in her tailpipe seemed to be drinking/not drinking and we don't know if she was hurt but we saw the crack in the windshield. We put out a BOL and we did look for her to an extent the night of the "crash". Here's what else we heard.......

WHY DID THEY DO THAT? Because in my mind, no matter what was driving Maura seemingly into much needed time away, WTF? And it was cold that night as seen in CS report, he noted various things that spell real trouble for a motorist who has just spun out and no where to be found. Did police lie because they'd be up shit crick for not helping an intoxicated young female more?(if that was the case) and then there's that rag!!!!!! Why, HOW, could anybody stuff one in there anyhow, it was rear end into the snowbank supposedly. And why did the other witness say the car backed up paralel to the road? That's what he could see from his angle..........Is CS known for forgetting things when he writes in his log days after an "accident" of sorts occurs? To me, he should not have played clueless to that Maura was driving that car.

earlier on people brought up questions like:
How far was the $280 Maura took out at the ATM gonna get her? Did she have more cash with her? It would cost a lot more to spend a week up there.

Was she travelling "in tandem" with another person? Did she just want to get rid of the Saturn that had caused her stress and required her to get rides from other people?

Did she have a buddy on or off campus she was staying with, if (heard this several times, can't remember if it's a fact....) the boxes with her belongings were neatly packed on her dormitory bed? Where did she sleep - unless on Monday she moved the boxes from the floor to the bed? Why bother? When she got back she'd just have to take them off the bed again.

If Maura didn't tell her good friend she worked part-time with at a gallery that she had had an accident in her dad's car the night before (Sat-Sun 3AM-ish), could that be because she was embarassed that she didn't take her friends' advice to just go back to the dorm and not drive to her dad's motel? It could be a common and embarassing "I told you so" situation she didn't want to bring up, nothing else.

I THINK --- will check --- that early reports stated that as Maura was escourted back to her dorm on Thurs nite/Fri AM Feb. 5/6 by her supervisor that she didn't explain what was causing her to cry, but she did say, "My sister, my sister". Does this add to the ideas above that the only time someone might take a rickedy car on a long trip would be for a beloved family member?

Kathleen said there was nothing really that could get Maura crying like thAT ABOUT THEIR PHONE CALL AND IF ANYTHING..........THAT SHE THOUGHT MAURA MIGHT HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET OUT OF WORKING HER WHOLE SHIFT. Then we were all led to believe the call that upset Maura came from Kathleen but no, it came from inhouse about 1 am
Speculating: maybe Maura did want to get to her room and used her sis, that call as a reason to go get back to something in her room, elsewhere? J a thought

I find your reply to be mocking and rude.
I've seen this same type of sarcasm displayed on another site which is the reason I and I'm sure others just lurked and didn't participate.
To even insinuate that I or anyone else on this forum wishes to hurt Maura and her family is very mean spirited and so untrue.
This will be my last reply. I will in no way be blamed for trying to hurt the very people that I'm trying to help.
Being a local and living very close to where Maura vanished I thought I might be able to be of some help but I guess I was wrong.
It is apparent now that in the eyes of some the locals will always be in the wrong. That's OK, we are proud people and have strong shoulders but that doesn't mean that we have to stay here and endure the crap thrown at us.
Good luck finding what you are looking for. I truly mean that.

You have me at a complete loss. I don't know who you are. I didn't know about the attempts on your sisters life and I didn't know anyone was banned from the other forum. How were you banned? Why? I also didn't know if you were banned you couldn't read information.

I am interested if someone can find some written documentation on the supposed statements made about the rag.

I looked over the 3 pages of Smiths report and it looks like what it was. An accident with someone running away and probably catching a ride from the location. I have read that is a pretty common occurance in particular when the driver has been drinking.

Oh and by the way, there is nothing in Beths storage, nothing at all, no papers, no cds about any of her interest in the MMM and or cases. Her parents were kind enough to give me her cameo collection and I will always cherish that. They have assured me there was nothing at all when they found her. Still hoping they will allow me the laptop.
:(
Beth lived in Lebanon NH and spoke highly of most all the people. She would want us to keep trying where she left off so everyone stay, please.
