You are correct in saying that we do not know why she left MA - or even IF she left MA. If she met with foul play in Bath/Haverhill, it certainly could have been someone "from away."
Another question - if Maura had no intention of returning to school, why would she "need to lie" in order to leave school?

I don't know why Maura would "need to lie" in order to leave school just as I don't know why she would "need to leave" school and head north into the mountains in the middle of the winter in a car that wasn't reliable.
Think about it Sophie. It had to be something extremely upsetting to make her up and leave as she did. If I was looking for an answer I would start there. I think it might have some answers.

I have asked this over and over untill I am blue in the face why was Maura in the Haverhill area?
Did Maura know someone in the area like people have said?
If she was in the area and was abducted by someone that is a serial killer then it might be while before we all know the truth or maybe not!
If Maura was taken by some of crooks in that town or she saw something happen where she could have hurt someone then it is possible a hit was put on her!
The man that was last seen with Maura with the Painters pants is a person I recognized from the discription they gave of his small hands!
Whether he was directly or indirectly involved with Maura's disappearance is something the police need to ask him if they listen to me when I tell them who that man was! I don't understand why she would be with him though!
Now MacKay and Floyd were in the immediate area as well and MacKay was a dirty policeman, so there is another theory. I don't believe that the abduction started in Mass. as it maks no sence that they would drive her car all the way to Haverhill to finish up the crime.
I do believe she met her fate in the Haverhill area but I am unsure why but I will it is just a matter of time before we know the truth!

I disagree that they know but I do believe they are freeked out by her disappearance.
This is the first mention of them and I think your just imagining things sorry!

Greetings; I have just spent a good part of my weekend reading these posts. I found this page while I was looking for unsolved murders in the river valley..There are some pretty good ideas here and some real crazy crap..I need to get this info off my chest..
In Aug 1988 I was walking along 302 in Fryeburg Maine (NH border) when I was offered a ride by a man that SEEMED nice enough.I was 22 and naive. To make a long story short, I was beaten and sexually assaulted and left in the woods to rot.
Luckily We have an excellent police force and the man was apprehended a week later. The man called himself the Interstate Man and kept notebooks describing kidnappings and murders all over the US.He claimed involvement in over 30 murders. The police also found quite a collection of knives. The man said that a "force" would come over him and he wanted to be put away so he wouldn't be able to continue. He pleaded guilty to his charges..was sentenced to 20 years,but was out by July of 99. In May of 05 he was apprehended for driving a getaway vehicle of a bank robbery. He'll be out in '09. SOMEONE has got to look into those notebooks and find out if he really WAS involved or if he was just a wannabee. I know this about finding Maura..He was out of jail when she disappeared..Also, Jane Barowski was attacked ONE week before me and he was working in NH at the time. His name was Lovie Lee Riddle Jr. AKA Louie,aka Howard, aka Bear. I have not written any info on this post that cannot be found in newspaper archive. Thanks for letting me vent and my prayers go out to ALL families trying to find answers in this all too often screwed up world.
PS. I have the newspaper clippings where he described many of events.

Most bothersome case
"The case I remember the most still bothers me," Lally says.
The Hampton police got a call of an attempted murder and rape. A young woman, a nurse from Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital, was driving home when a black male in a pick-up truck forced her off the road in Tewksbury, Mass., on May 20, 1988.
The guy had driven her around from midnight to 4:30 a.m., raping her at various stops, Lally says.
Lally got the call at home at 5 a.m. The victim was at Exeter Hospital.
The man had driven up Interstate 95, gotten off at the Hampton tolls and stopped by the side of the road. He stabbed the woman in her abdomen and chest repeatedly, and left her in an embankment to die.
The woman heard him leave and crawled up the embankment. A young guy in his 20s leaving work was driving back to Exeter when he saw what he thought was a wounded animal on the side of the road.
Hampton put out a bulletin to other police departments. Tewksbury told them they had found a car running on River Road with a purse inside. This matched the story the police had gotten from the victim at Exeter Hospital.
"The case never, never had a lead on it, Lally says, "bits and pieces here and there. That still bothers me, that guy never got caught."

No one said you had to believe it Cosmic Moe. Lo Yo did'nt state it as fact but said it was their opinion. Were you at any of the searches? Did you see or speak to any of Maura's family members?
How do you "know" that local yokal is way off base?
Doesn't everyone have a right to an opinion. After more than four years of blaming the locals for having some kind of part in her disappearance and getting absolutely no closer to finding her don't you think it might be time to look in a different direction or at least welcome new opinions? Time to take the blinders off and open your eyes and ears to new fresh ideas.
That is unless there is a reason that new ideas and opinions are not welcome.

Read that again and you will see that by definition, the exact location of this cabin is "never-never land." Unless I am misunderstanding the word "not."

People need to be careful and read what is written, not just what they want to see.(I've noticed this for 50-something pages.) There seem to be a LOT of agendas here, and not all of them are held by the people of the former MMM forum, as some would have us believe.
