If the Saturn, driven by someone other than Maura, hit Vasi, why could the driver rely on Maura to keep quiet about the hit-and-run?
When airbags deploy there are certain things that are recorded such as the vehicles speed, the time, possibly the location if equipped with gps, so when the airbags deployed there is information like 10 minutes before the accident and helps investigators determine fault to recreate the accident!

Do you really honestly think if you know about this and that if Fred Murray is ranting about it to the MEDIA that NHSP haven't tested this knife?

It is clear that the impact to the front edge of the hood, just above the headlight, was made by an object of a very regular, contoured shape. It really looks like the car was hit by a trailer hitch or similar manmade object.
A tree large enough to deflect the force of a car – a car which then hit a second tree and landed down the street a little - would almost certainly have caused a larger, more rounded dent. But more importantly, there is no significant damage to the front bumper below the hood, a bumper with a leading edge several inches in front of the point of impact on the hood. A regularly shaped object obviously struck the hood at front left causing little if any damage to the bumper. Therefore, the direction (or plane) of impact was approximately parallel to the ground. Like with a tow truck or a trailer hitch.
If you don't have a trailer hitch at home, look at one in a store. The shape corresponds very closely with the shape of the dent on the Saturn.
Even accounting for a resilient 5 mph bumper, it is hard to explain the very regular shape of the dent in the hood.
She could have hit the Red truck with Mass plates in the rear somehow. I do know that when the airbags deploy the computer in the car collects information to help Investigators try to find out who is at fault!

I have always wondered about Vasi and the Saturn connection. You've gone over some real good points made a couple years back and added food for thought. Dang, and taking the car off campus really makes sense. Didn't the windshield crack on the inner glass though?
Sniffin, can you repeat what was said at the search without giving yourself away? All I can relate to about Kathleen and Tom 'bickering' is that they likely had to start off their marriage on a sad note that may or may not be consuming them. Kathleen and Maura were so close and my sister and I are too but she causes such heartache. For Kathleen to have to go from whatever was progressing to having no Maura at all must be totally "maddening"
Her words were," now that my sister's not here, my dad will have to spend time with me for once, instead of her! I know this stuff because I wrote it down back then... I found it harsh and suspicious. Just then a small man came over(whom I later found out was her husband Tim) grabbed her arm and basically told her you don't speak to anyone, remember what I said! He was very controlling and dominearing to the point where she turned and looked troubled and lost. I fear for her in that relationship.

That's correct and it's an important point. But the truck that hauled the Saturn from the Rt. 112 crash scene is not the one referred to in the earlier post. It's possible that a tow truck or another vehicle or even some kind of heavy object set off the airbags before the Saturn was discovered.
In other words, the Saturn may have first sustained a much smaller dent from having hit Vasi. Later, the Vasi dent may have been obscured, deliberately or not, by a second collision in the same spot, which set off the airbags.
But it's true, and important to remember, that the airbags were already deployed when the Saturn was first discovered.
Two related questions: Would both airbags deploy in a '96 Saturn if the seats were occupied by a weight less than X number of pounds? Is 60 pounds the standard?
In an accident all airbags deploy unless there is a switch to deactivate an airbag then that one will not deploy!
Again I will say that the cars computer collect's telemetry for Accident Investigators when an airbag deploys!

The ribbon tree is about 100 feet from the actual
site.

The PI's reconstruction person never say the car in person only pictures.
BeagleBart wrote:
Is the location of the ribbon also the exact location of the Saturn?
Assuming the crash report is correct – and there's no reason to think it isn't – then it seems very likely that the Saturn did,in fact, go off the right side of the road just east of the Weathered Barn, hit one tree nearly head on, at the front left of the car, which then hooked it clockwise into hitting another tree on the driver's side. The report indicates the presence of three tress, but only points of impact. For purposes of illustrating the scene, it looks like the two impacted trees were separated by a single un-impacted tree. Does this sound about right? If so, it's certainly not surprising that the impact was heard by one neighbor, while another neighbor, perhaps watching TV, did not hear anything. Any damage to the driver's side door?
If both airbags deployed, were there two people in the car or possibly only the driver?

Who had access to the Saturn on Thursday, February 5? It could not have been too many people. Did any of these people know someone on or near Chestnut or Gray Streets in Amherst?

There is absolutely no reason for even the most law-abiding person to allow a warrantless search by police of his or her home. Not allowing a warrantless search is very understandable no matter what reasons are given by police for the search. And it was certainly the correct reponse given the circumstances. No questionable motives by the building's occupant should be inferred.
Definitely true, that. Every time I hear the phrase "You mind if we have a look around?" followed by, "Sure, I've got nothing to hide" on TV, I am tempted to throw something at the set at the people who are throwing their constitutional right out the window.

I find this more than a little bit unlikely. Not only does it reek of the high drama of TV, had it actually occurred, what are the chances that no one else overheard it but you? Furthermore, why are you just now announcing this? If someone said that about her missing (apparently beloved) sister, wouldn't that raise some alarms, enough to report the conversation to LE? Did you do so?

It does not seem to me indicative of the relationship they had. It also seems completely out of left field, as far as fitting into the rest of the picture.

My sibling and I fight not to would be tv
in my opinion.
Kathleen has had a few bumps in life and
lots of kids in that family.
She also didn't come right forward with
the phone call to the law.
I think it was after phone records where pulled
which I found odd since she was contacted on the 10th to email law a photo of Maura.

The whole situation has been hard on all.

Good now tell us where Larry said the body is!
Cause in real life we have no murder without a body!
If Claude took her to camp where is her blood?
The searchers have been there!
They lost their carpet piece but gave one to law.
Thinking anyone killed with a jack knife left
some blood.
Where are her personal belongings?

So who decided it should be the glove? I think Whiston asked this recently as well.

Hey FireCat! I don't know who brought the glove from wherever it was to the search team and dog handler. IF (and again, I don't know who retrieved the glove and brought it to the search handler)it was CS and he didn't handle the glove according to proper procedure (e.g. wear gloves), then his scent would have been the freshest scent on the glove...and since its been reported that CS walked from Maura's car down to SBD's to speak with him at the bus and back up the road again to the car...it very likely could have been his scent the dog was tracking. If you think that I was giving permission to anyone to discuss whatever, you're mistaken.
If you think that I believe that anyone here needs my permission for anything, you're delusional.
However, your level of vitriol directed at me for merely stating my opinion is astonishing.

What, all theories are "permissible" here as long as they assume that Maura was guilty of a crime and her disappearance is her own fault?
Unfortunately for you and your ilk, I rehect your inisitence on Maura's guilt and will continue to discuss anything I damn well please. It will take a good deal more than verbal nastiness to get rid of me. I'm not easily distracted.

Some people are certainly going to a great deal of trouble to make Maura, Fred, Kathleen and Tim look bad. Very interesting.
And the 100 or so other disappearances and unsolved murders in the upper CT Valley - how do you manage to dismiss them?

I was under the impression that Vasi was almost killed.
I would say there is probably 2 feet left by road crews out there on each side of the road.
To my knowledge it did not jump a snowbank.
The road has a ditch in the movie that was
made that wasn't there when the accident happened.
I guess when the records are released we can
all compare the tire tracks to those on car
but thinking the NHSP did giving the nature of
this case.
You are entitled you thoughts as are those who
know what they have seen with their own eyes in
this case!
Watching wrote:
The theory of the Saturn hitting Vasi does not hold water. The damage sustained to the vehicle would have killed Vasi. A car hitting a human body would not sustain this sort of damage unless it pinned the person against an object w/ an edge. That did not happen to Vasi.
Additionally Whitwash, how did the car jump the snowbank to hit the trees? Was that area plowed out by those trees? Did those tire marks match the Saturn? Were those tire marks of another vehicle pulling out of that area and Maura may have tried to swerve to avoid hitting as she came around the corner? The snowbanks were quite high at that time. Most police looking at an accident match tire prints to vehicles. Did this occur? Why was an acceleration noise heard by neighbors prior to the crash? Was that another vehicle's noise, but that vehicle was not noticed by neighbors? A car expert and a reconstructionist looked at the damage to the Saturn. Looking at the photos of the damage are helpful for those linking it to hitting a tree or a human. Tree trunks are round and I can't fathom the damage done was caused by a tree. The triangular piece on a tow truck could cause such damage though, or possibly the rear of a truck, especially if it had something jutting out of the bumper. If an expert accident reconstrutionist concluded the damage was not sustained where the car was found, I would trust that they are likely correct, but that's me. Can someone figure out how to post the damaged Saturn photo here?
SB, Obviously if someone has potentially relevant knowledge it should be brought forth. You misunderstood the meaning and intent of my words.
