I hear what you're saying, but there's a difference. I'm not the detective on this case. I'm not a detective at all. It's Columbo's responsibility to post in such a way that it will not discourage progress. If I act like a jerk and I also present information in this thread that may be helpful, then the information I provide can be taken or ignored - for whatever reason.

But the public statements of Weeper and Detective Columbo do nothing to maintain the professional image that is necessary to encourage productive public confidence. To a large extent, Columbo and Weeper are the public face of the extra-LE investigation. But frankly, they act like idiots and often contradict themselves.

True, they may have some kind of sophisticated investigative method at play, but to the average person who may have seen something important on his way home that night and would like to share it with the PI's instead of LE, well, that guy is going to believe the PI's are just plain jerks because of what they've posted online and he's not going to volunteer what could be something really important.

To me, the way Columbo and Weeper have conducted themselves in public (on this thread and the old MMM forum) is nothing less than a betrayal of trust. It makes the case look even crazier in the public mind than it already is. It makes any investigation look like a sham.

Look at their posts. The average person, unless he knew them otherwise, would never believe that these guys are intelligent professionals. They do nothing but give the investigation a bad name, regardless of their reasons for posting the way they do.
