Wowzer, I have seen that you feel deeply insulted by comments concerning this. I have tried to state what I have heard aside from any fact available to me. It appears to me it makes no difference. And this would induce anyone to come forward? I wish I never had. Truth.
Don't turn it around Anne. I just asked questions which everyone is entitled to do. I certainly wasn't deeply insulted over anything. I don't even know why you would say that.
I asked these questions because it's not easy sifting thru fabrications, observations, opinions and bald faced lies. What is wrong with trying to get to the truth?
If something is happening around my area I want to know about it whether it's good or bad. But above all else I want true facts not a bunch of made up fabrications by people that turn this around in a direction they want everyone to go.
I've spoken to people in my area and I know that some things that have been said here are not true so why don't you stop jumping on me and start fighting for the truth. Isn't this whole thing to find out what happened to Maura? You all sure have a funny way of doing things. It's no wonder after 5 years you're no farther ahead than you were way back then.
No one forces you to post here Anne. There's another new forum that was made so some of you would not have to put up with the likes of me and a few of my friends here.Yes I said my friends because they don't pick every word I say apart.
But this seems to be the popular place to be. Hmm, I wonder why?
Yep it's time to throw out the bull crap and get to the truth. I have a feeling some may not like the real truth.

Ok, just to get the facts straight you are saying that Rooney worked and lived in the Haverhill area during the winter of 2004 when Maura went missing? Yes or no?
Where is this truck picture? Who's truck is it and where did elsewhere take the picture?

Wowzer, I do beg to differ! The *new forum* was made so that everyone here would have a place to discuss Maura's disappearance that was SEARCHABLE and where discussion could be categorized into specific areas that could be more easily followed and added to. Also, that location contains photos that posters have provided, documents, and links, etc. It is not meant to be exclusive to any one point of view or group of posters, and in fact there are distinct disagreements ongoing.

I would hope that opposing camps try not to be too hard on one another, and the PM feature is handy for arguments that get too heated and detract from the discussion if any want to use it.

Hi, this was my best guess of approx where Columbo told us the red truck was pulled off to the side of the road:

http://maps.google.com/maps...

Columbo, I never read about a red pickup truck on BH Road before last week. On MM or MMM. It's too big a deal for those of us who read the posts to have missed! In terms of the possibility of distracting us from looking at Amherst or Maura's own activities, I offered that as a second option to just be aware of. You've got a job to do and I don't know the half (or the 1%) of it --- but I just thought I spotted a pattern. Some of us posters have evolved into a pathologically suspicious bunch, haven't we?

I remember the info about the red truck on BH on MM site, wish I had it here to research. Brian Rooney working in the Haverhill area during Feb. 2004 was a suspicion after learning he worked in the Haverhill area off and on. Maybe he stayed with friends at the A frame? I did not hear about the van before. Try to bear in mind that gossip can be prolific, so you have to wade through the muck! Anyway the red truck on BH has been out for a while. There certainly appears to be reason to stop an unusual number of red/maroon trucks subsequent to the accident.
A "suspicion". Contrived. Invented, IMHO...to develop the "A frame" theory.
Again, unless Columbo can confirm such information...WHY put it out there?

Again, the press has never mentioned NH connections directly for Brian Rooney.

In fact, he was known to have driven a Jeep.

Well, then, what are you waiting for? Why not bring the detailed information...the "truth" that you harbor...to the authorities?

Sorry to say, the approach seems fishy, and smacks of rumor/gossip to me.

About Rooney and his rags found soaked in chemicals... In Maura's case, IIRC, the rag in the tailpipe was actually a little white towel Maura kept in her trunk? Per Fred (IIRC)? This would be a different MO for Rooney? And more complicated? I dunno -- If I were Rooney I'd carry a chemical-soaked rag inside 3 ziploc bags (the secret to scent control known to living-seashell collectors) in my pocket, always ready to go. If he WAS cruising purposefully that night, looking to abduct, checking out RO, you'd guess he might've been prepared with his own rags?(I can already think of how to argue against what I just said, but I might as well've thrown it out there.)

Today is no different from any other so I don't have a CLUE how I feel! All I know is that you (and Weeper) have taught us to question everything, so it's you who have created us monsters.(haha). You'd think the same way, right? Just want to reaffirm that my questioning doesn't mean I'm not grateful for what you tell us. And I'm sure our gratitude will swell with any additional new information you share. Thanks!

perhaps the detective knows better than i, but a white rag was once a universal symbol of a car breakdown and need for assistance.
at one time, it was used to wave on an antenna...before cell phones and hazard lights.
however, you'd think it would be tied to a side mirror before stuffing it in a tailpipe.
perhaps Maura hit an animal/deer...cell didn't work...needed assistance...but she was also selective in turning away anyone who seemed creepy.

what were the chances of a young female to encounter a would-be murderer who is prepared to chloroform her?
as often as someone like michelle gardner-quinn.
as often as adam walsh.
as often as jeffery curley/sommerville, MA.

rare. but remotely possible.

You are right Advocator and I apologize. My remark was made because it was mentioned back then by one or two that it would be nice to have a place that the...hmm I hope I say this kindly...posters that repeatedly posted about things that didn't concern Maura could be in a more controlled forum where they could be dealt with.
My words and not exactly what was said but you get the drift.
You've done a great job with the new forum BTW.

ooOOoo, Hey, check it out, I typed it correctly! And, what is it, cause I missed it, were we discussing about Amherst. Truly, I want to know.
Someone was asking about a professor, that lived at one time in Northampton? First name Mike? West Point was brought up again also. I'll have to go back & look again, to be certain.

Have to read up on Brian Rooney also. That is very interesting. He's been in jail for quite a while, wonder why this came out now? I thought I remembered Weeper stating that the red truck thing was not related to Maura or a dead end, something to that effect.

JMHO but if you are talking about the red truck in the pictures which include the red Jeep then I have to say IMO it doesn't look like what RO described at all.
I remember when she described the truck she saw as possibly a wood delivery truck with wooden side boards. She also said the back window was small like in an older truck or maybe a wooden back to protect the window and cab of truck from wood being thrown in. Ma plates on the truck and she couldn't see the driver. JMHO
If I'm looking at the wrong picture plmk. Thanks

Please read my posts carefully. It WAS NOT stated that Rooney is connected to Maura's disappearance as a fact. It WAS stated as fact that he lived in the area and worked in the area.

I mentioned that the rag in the tailpipe was strange though, and I have never heard of a rag being placed there for saftey concerns. Tied to the antenna if the vehicle has one maybe, but more than likely rolled up in the window. It is a common thing now to have a RED FLAG or a disabled card/ticket that you attatch to your vehicle when it becomes disabled and you leave it there to go for help or whatever.

I agree, if Rooney was on the hunt he would be prepared with the chemical soaked rags. I mentioned the rag in the tailpipe because I think it very strange, and Fred Murray stated that he had not taught Maura to put it there in an emergency. I researched the Rag In The Tailpipe thing quite a bit. After much looking on the web and talking to people about it I found no instances of this practice being a common occurrence by any means.

Thank You....Columbo

The authorities are aware of this info for 3 1/2 yrs....... has anything been done with it? That is unknown as LE share no info with us as PI'S. They expect us to feed them info when we have it and that is what was done as required by law.

Here is link for pix of truck..

This is a stake bed truck, the deck has holes along the side and back so that rails can be taken off or put on easily. It also has a window guard for the back window and this would obscure the back window somewhat. I am not saying this IS THE RED TRUCK, but it is a likely similar vehicle.

Thank you, indirectly, for your reply. It is helpful to know such info. has been reported to LE.
You are stating, as fact, that Rooney lived/worked in the area...so the implication might be a connection to Maura...which seems not to be ruled out by your mentioning it here.
Seems a longshot to me...but there are better minds than mine in this endeavor.

"Tom Shamshak also wants to know the whereabouts of Brian Rooney. You may remember him. He is the main suspect in the abduction and murder of UVM student Michelle Gardner-Quinn in Burlington, VT. Maura disappeared near the Vermont border.
No one is publicly linking Rooney to Murray, but Shamshak is working to see if there is a connection."

What if Fred didn't instruct Maura to place it there as safety but more of way to keep it from
back firing?
Maybe there are two Fred's the one who spoke so
free to certain people the first days and the
Fred who speaks guarded to the Det.

Oddly I find myself wondering who pass and who
would fail the lie detector tests but some just
won't buck up for that will they Det.

Hey everyone couple of things the old rag in the tailpipe gag that either works our it doesnt. When it does the car wont start at all.And I myself wonderd if that night someone just happend to be riding rte 112 looking to grab someone. And to me didnt seem likely because that rd at night isnt heavely traveled. Not the best place to do such things. And she didnt hit a deer there were no sighns of animal tracks.Infact it looked to me that she just was going to fast for a really sharp corner and lost control. Not at all a bad accident.I was there the next day and saw the all the tire tracks. It all seems odd she got in an accident refused help from a local took her backpack with a good amount of alcohol in it and left. Why would she do that and head the way she did down a pitch black Rd with no street lights at all in the middle of the woods in the dead of winter.
