Agreed. This group needs another piece of hard evidence to drop. Given all consideration and hypothesizing, I bet this group would very quickly hone in on the significance and relevance of a new fact.
I find the idea credible and worth considering. Suppose she was involved with someone unbeknownst to Rausch and her family and if she was really smitten with him (she was after all a very young girl who I know was a bit conflicted about some things in terms of the dirction of her life ... which I picked up on in reading about her West Point experience). If that was the case, and the other person hit Vasi in her car, she would have had strong feelings of both guilt toward Raush and family and loyalty toward the person she was involved with, not to mention - as you suggested - anger and even a feeling of being trapped because she would not have wanted dad and Rausch to find out about her affair in the context of this accident. This idea also is consistent with a shred of circumstantial evidence: her at once sappy and distant email communications with Rausch. Under this scenario, the couple could easily have decided to get out of dodge to consider the situation and try to get their thoughts together. Maybe at some point they decided to stage an accident. That, for me, is an explanation of how the car ends up going east on 112, although I concede the valid contrary viewpooints of Anne and Suzanne on this issue. Finally, not being alone leads to some conceivable scenarios under which the rag gets in the tail pipe, whereas if she was alone no way.
In all this, Beagle, let me say that I see both sides of the field as being relevant. There is Amherst stuff behind this, at least in terms of good explanations for how she got there (if in fact she did). As for what happened, I don't have much to say at this point. I can't even begin to summon a guess. It may have been simply wrong place at wrong time. There are a lot of registered sex offenders up ther (per capita, anyway) and a high rate of violent crime (per capita).
Anyway, good post dude.
John,

The biggest problem with the Vasi theory is how did the Saturn get from Amherst to the accident site on the 112? The headlights were askew and could not have adequately illuminated the road, assuming that it was driveable. Most of the trip would have been after dark.

You need to look at the photos.

sophie bean, It is interesting concerning the 'judging' as I too have looked at it closely and thought the same that an element of OCD to it.

When reading the forum these days I find myself repeating a behavior. It's that I am almost constantly shaking my head no and/or chuckling. Oh well, laughing eases tension as I wait for the reasonable posts that are here.

I still believe that whatever happened to Maura will come together sometime. There is plenty of meanness exhibited here that is a good indicator of that! Just my honest opinion.

Why not isolate your political views and keep them out of this Topix thread?
Or let me know when Tiny Tim can turn it all around.

Can anyone point to good secondary source discussions of this case (aside from newspaper articles)? Much appreciated. I very much want to learn more.
John,

The other site was started for the purpose you've identified and you're way behind the curve here.

Check the other site that's organized by theory and then you'll be up to speed. All of the information available to us is there and it's searchable.

Precisely. If Maura's case was a "simple" missing persons case, I don't believe there would be the level of public unfounded accusation and threat (isn't that illegal?) that we are seeing on the board and in PM's.
I would generally advise everyone to NEVER meet with anyone who says "let's meet!" unless you know who they are, unless it's a safe, public location, and unless you have a burly friend along for witnessing and protection. There's some very strange, frightening and dangerous stuff going down here right now. Please be safe.
good radar, Sophie Bean.

let me put it this way...someone has a REALLY HOT BUTTON about his identity. he falls into nasty-mode quickly at the mention of any perceived misrepresentation of himself.

'Alden' is at least comfortable to consistently present as his various selves.(selves - is that correct, Firecat? who/whom be damned...i'm about to regularly use 'who', just for laughs!)

anyway...and either way...it takes magnificent skill (or dysfunction?) to highly perfect and refine self-talk...and my sense is that there are clones here that may include, but far surpass 'Alden's" skills.

none of this identity business alters the content of the message...but it creates uncertainty about the consistency and credibility of the messenger.

such methods are confusing for those of us WHO ;-) don't dabble in self-talk.

Mason,
Firstly, I always appreciate your input.
I certainly think it's reasonable to question whether she may have been pregnant with another man's baby, and that this man wanted her killed. This could also explain the phone call she received in which she started crying, although I still questions whether this phone call has anything to do with her disappearance.
I strongly disagree with the whole nurse picking her up and Maura spilling her guts part though. IMHO.
I was about to type up, "I know that you think she wouldn't have discussed this pregnancy with anyone, but women always disclose something like that to at least one close friend." However, I then remembered the fact that she's engaged. Obviously she would never mention a word of her pregnancy to anyone but the man himself.
Another theory that certainly does NOT get enough attention is that she was using drugs at the time, something addictive like cocaine, painkillers or heroin. She went to NH to see her drug dealer for any number of reasons (to pick up, to pay him, to give/receive anything) and he had other plans in mind. Perhaps he had been planning on abducting her or thought of it impulsively at the time, but it would explain the red truck. Perhaps she was on the way to see him when she crashed, so then she called him and he picked her up. Dozens of theories can branch out after the theory that she went to NH to see her drug dealer. WHY ELSE would she take such a risk, driving a shitty car all the way to the middle of NH? Drug dependency/addiction could induce anybody to do that, and it would explain everything.
And hey, maybe the drug dealer was ALSO the secret boyfriend that impregnated her. What do you think Mason? It's a possibility.
I do disagree with you in the respect that you believe she wasn't abducted. It DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A SERIAL KILLER. I don't know why everyone thinks that it must have been a serial killer. I think a lot of men, many more than you'd think, would try to exploit the opportunity of seeing a stranded, good-looking, drunk college girl with no where to go and desperate for help right in their town. I've said before that it's very possible that a clean, crime-free man may have seen her and took advantage of the situation. It doesn't have to be a child molestor or a serial killer. It's incredibly naive to assume there must have been a serial killer.
Everything you say could be right.

I wonder if this group were able to combine its knowledge into such a product, whether upon examining it some different insights might come to light.
I cannot claim to moved by compassion, although I have the type of human compasssion toward Maura and the Murray and Rausch that you would expect: I didn't know them. It is a terrible story, but not close to me. My interest here is that this whole story is FASCINATING. It would be great if, for the Murray's sake, an answer could be known. But I also just want to know because it is such an interesting mystery.
So many ideas have been kicked around her. If the mechanism existed to stitch these ideas togehter into a single fabric that showed facts, theories and speculations on a timeline, I bet it would yield new and potentially valuable perspectives.
Facts are the essential and missing elements.
Theories abound.
As mentioned, a searchable site exists at the "new" forum.

Good luck John - Snowy and I have been trying to do that... I know some of the items on the chart - says only one airbag - there were two and of course - the londonderry incoming call.. I work for the phone company so that one really bugs because i know its not accurate.. Also the search warrant/affidavit .. whatever its titled - I showed that to the legal dept at work and they said it is NOT a legal document - the standard boiler plate stuff isn't there and the legal requirements on how the date is entered in the body of doc so it can't be altered.. they said plain and simple - it was made up. I do not put ill will to anyone who posted these - i think they did with good intentions. the affidavit and call came from the court house - I think they got tired ( court house) of people snooping around and wanted to keep people quiet.

I showed up at DD for coffee. Only a couple people showed up. It was nice to meet weeper and Columbo, they are who they say they are.

A long drive for coffee, but now I know who they are for myself.

For the record, upon my calling out Beagle on the factual errors in his story about a Verizon tech showing him that his phone was bugged and that his calls were being forwarded to an aborition clinic, Beagle identified me as being part of this vast pro life conspiracy. Aside from his estimate of my politics being wrong, Beagle's accusations exemplify the point that the last resort of a failing argument is an ad hominym attack. In Beagle's case, a rather bizarre one!
I doubt that's Beagle - Beagle ain't playing goalie like our friend from Tampa - defending his favored approach to the case.

Dawn,

There are (2) types of Law in the United States, there's traditional and modern. Maybe John, Lady Gray, or Mason can explain this.

The state of NH is very different compared to other states and still maintain the old English (traditional)laws which are no longer existent in the majority of the United States. The state of NH is slow to set new precedents and the majority of traditional laws still remain on the books.

As a matter of fact, Mr. Murray set precedent with the Freedom of Information Act/Right to Know Law in NH and it has since been revised.

Although I may be totally clueless or in error I am not ready to out the affidavit as a bogus document until a NH attorney claims this to be the case.

In the meantime I am contented with the belief that is a legally binding document.

Wish I could have been there too. 18-20 hours a bit too long of a drive.......lol.

By the way, a belated Happy Birthday to Detective Columbo.
