Judged: 1 1 1 On Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at about 3 p.m., investigating state police officers found the bodies of two prominent ufologists in a campground in northern New Hampshire (N.H.). The bodies of George W. Perry, 50, of East Providence, Rhode Island and Keith Begnoche, 22, of Blackstone, Massachusetts were found in a tent at the Dolly Copp Campground, located off Route 16 in Pinkham's Grant, N.H. Relatives of the dead men called the police on Monday after Perry and Begnoche failed to return from their weekend camping trip to Mount Washington. I travel to Canada on a pretty regular basis--several times a year, and have always travelled there since being a kid--at least several times a year--soemtimes monthly. Until recently, most times I was simply asked where I was going, what I was going for, and how long I'd be there. It was actually coming back into the US that created the problems--they sometimes owuld search the car, go through my luggage, ask for an ID. Now it requires a passport, but until recently it was very easy to go in and out wihtout showing an ID or birth certificate for the most part. I typically cross at the Derby line--Derby VT. Rte 91. |

Wow Bill, my sister told me to bring my birth certificate and I am sure I brought it I just don't remember the actual exchanges on the occasions I drove through the border. Well, except for the last time.........lol. |

One could always cross the border in the woods someplace, very easily.

I only ever had to show my driver's license, right up until the last time I visited Canada in 1997. This was driving up 395 through Colville. Don't know if that would have made any difference (it's not exactly a major thoroughfare) |

Judged: 2 2 2 I haven't been to CA for about two years but before that I liked to shop in the huge mall they have and I also liked visiting the Granby Zoo. I never had to show a birth certificate and just once was asked to show a license with a picture. I was asked where I was going, what I was planning to do and how long I was staying. That's it! I do believe it's finally gone through recently that you do need a passport now to go over the CA border. How strange that you have always had to show citizenship to cross over. |

Dawn please go back and read post 15627 on pg 776 and stop bringing this PM /IP crap up again and again. You are making it my business by bringing it up all the time on replies to me. Get over it!!! |

Judged: 1 Wowzer ~ in years before 9/11, our family traveled to Magog, Montreal and Toronto for hockey tournaments, and we experienced the same process at the border as you have. we'd bring our birth certificates, but never offered, nor were we asked to produce them. the agents were sometimes quite casual, and rarely, more interrogative and thorough. |

One of our favourite family stories involves me taking my sister up to BC for lunch while she was visiting. When we got to the border, she was the one driving my old Volvo station wagon. A few friendly questions, where are you going, what are you doing, that sort of thing. The last question was, "Are there any guns or weapons in the car?"
And my brilliant sister smiles at the border patrol and says sweetly, "I don't know, it's her car." Turns to me and says, "Are there any guns in the car?" Poor border patrol guy couldn't stop laughing at my outrage...I think I might have even smacked her on the arm...."You two are sisters, aren't you?" Um, gee. How did you guess. |
