Thank you so much for answering me, really. I have tried to understand this aspect for so long and just didn't feel I could ever ask this question right for starters. Just more to think about as I shift my gears..........<quoted text>
Paris, I believe that as Maura had only just received these gloves and Sharon R said she never wore gloves that it is entirely possible they did not contain her scent. Since CS handled them and went to SBD driveway the night of the 'accident' that this could attribute to the indescision of the dog at the corner.

paris, It certainly is a fact that more than a usual red truck was stopped or checked that night according to the HPD official report.
It is too bad that when HPD did the search that they had not let Mr Murray know as he would have known to use a more 'scented' item such as......
Euro - Your theories are all possible, but the CW's sighting of Maura (or a youngster) running 5-6 miles away sounds contrived to me and I don't know what to make of the CW. All you mention is possible, including the VT sighting, there being no physical evidence presented to show that it was NOT Maura in the Saturn, etc.
Want to see something sort of creepy? Go to Google Maps and check out I-91 North in Northampton, MA. Use 42.3402,-72.6376 for coordinates. Click on the little yellow guy on the highway. This will put you just west of Lane Plant Road. First, pan so you're looking exactly perpendicular to the highway - IOW, directly at the guardrail, and then pan the camera angle sort of SE about 45 degrees. You can pan by left clicking the mouse and holding it down to rotate the photo.
It's just a small spec in the trees, but if you enlarge it once or twice, it looks a little like a skull sideways to the ground. I'm sure it's not a real skull, but it does look like one of those religious "pictures" you hear about from time to time. It's really interesting what you can see with Google, not to mention how easy it is to see what you want to see sometimes.
Anne, you really need to read what I wrote. I went to pains to not say they know where she is. I specifically stated they might know where she isn't. A subtle but an important difference. If they knew for example that she made it to say Woodstock it would make searching the area around the vehicle a waste of time, resources, and effort.
How could LE positively ID her, short of iris recognition?
Too few people writing with too many so called "stage names"...Phhfftt!
Too many with stubborn resistance and denial. Too much pseudo intellectual intrigue.
Too much blame and evil directed at Maura and her family.
Too little attention to Maura and her empty car on Route 112, Woodsville/Bath/Swiftwater
in February 2004. My POC will be Weeper because he is a certified detective.
At least the murderers of Powell, in Warren and the chap in Wentworth, were identified/charged
within the last 4 years. Perhaps eventually, there will be justice served for T.Conrad and Maura.
Good night Beth...
Sorry if I don't understand. ID her under what circumstances? From a security tape? Or where she may have left skin, saliva, blood, etc?
Too many people seem to be looking for absolutes. Just my opinion. I don't know about iris recognition. I do know that I can follow the bouncing ball. I do know that I can add 2 and 2. There may be a place in the universe that it adds to 5 but not here. I do tend to believe that it was Maura driving Maura's car. Based upon her level of running ability CW's eyewitness account of someone running at that time makes it possible that it was Maura. If it was Maura 5 miles away then what good is searching with dogs near the car? Again, none of this is verified but it is possible. Maura picks up alcohol. Makes sense she was drinking alcohol. We know that alcohol causes wrecks and Maura who has alcohol in the car has a wreck. It is not unusual for people who crash cars while drinking to evade by leaving the scene of the crash. The SBD reported that the person he talked to didn't want the police notified. Maura left the crash scene and someone looking similar to her appeared several miles to the east in a time frame that would be consistent with her known physical abilities. Was it her for sure. Don't know but the police may know better. Personally I am adding 2 and 2 and coming up with 4. Does it explain where she is now, no but it does get her away from the car. That would make looking near the car probably not particularly useful.
Bear in mind I know that some of this is speculation but not inconsistent with what we know.
Although I know you didn't mean anything by 'Goodnight Irene'.........
Beth was a selfless, kind, humble, funny, and very astute young woman who dedicated the final few years of her life to the missing and murdered in NH/VT.
She passed away, at the age of 38, in January and although I never had the opportunity to meet her in person, as I'd hoped, I was devastated by her loss along with so many others.

Paris & Mcsmom,
In the newly released Grafton County Police logs is there anything specific to 7:00 p.m.? I've not yet reviewed them.
I've always believed there was an earlier accident and recall Sophie Bean mentioning that she heard mention on the radio about an accidenton Route 10. The radio report was about Maura and it was a week after she'd been reported missing.
I need to pull up those reports because I am very curious about the decription of the red truck. For those of you whom might not be aware. Silky/Beth let us know that 6 vehicles were stopped that night and (3) were red trucks.
Firecat, I had to laugh because now we know how get Beagle to post right away!(It's like the old threat, "Call me or else I'll come visit!) Anyway, better to create some embarassment than let a crime get "cold", right?
Thanks for telling me about Beth, who sounds like she was a very special and wonderful person. I didn't know a thing about her. Glad for the information regarding her selfless dedication.
However, "Good night, Irene" does not refer to her in any way. I apologize if it sounded that way. The little, tiny post was sort of a cross between "Good night, John Boy" and the theory some posters - no disrespect intended - have on what happened to Maura with a little folksiness thrown it. Was light, not heavy or too full of meaning. And certainly did not have anything to do with Beth.
Thanks for filling me in on who Beth is/was.
That was totally unfair. House was a mess. Grass was tall. No refreshments on hand.
But I kept an eye out, just in case. FYI, I'm still warm and vertical after all these years. Crazy, too. As Paul Simon says.
Beagle -- haha! I doubt anyone here would "drop in" on you!!!! That must've been a MAJOR bummer to think that THAT might happen! Personally, I hide under a quilt and just don't open the door for drop-in visitors! Glad you're warm, vertical... and that Other Thing too.

Very interesting to read about your reference to Sophie Bean and a possible accident on Rte 10 prior to the Saturn´s incident (whatever it was) on Rte 112 by the Weathered Barn in Swiftwater.
I presume that this supposed accident on Rte 10 may be that "mysterious" first accident which Maura (or whoever was driving the Saturn) might have been involved in.
Do you happen to know on what particular stretch of Rte 10 this "first" accident is supposed to have happened?
To fit in with our theories here it should have been on the co-signed NH 10/US 302 section between Woodsville and the turnoff for Rte 112 a few miles north of Woodsville.
Is there any information at all about the location?
That phhfftt may have been cute on the MM site but here it is just plain rude and arrogant.
Here is a prime example why the MM site ran in a blind circle for over 4 years and why several new posters with fresh ideas left the forum.
Just because this forum isn't heading in the direction that you think it should doesn't mean that these ideas by the posters are meaningless and unworthy.
I surely see no blame or evil directed to the family and I also don't see where there's too little attention to Maura and her car since just about every reply pertains just to Maura.
Remember Shack this is NOT the MMM forum and there are many new people posting here with new ideas that really don't give a rat's ass if you agree with them or not.
Oh, could you please explain more about the blood in the A frame bomb you dropped the other day and then disappeared? I noticed you didn't mention it even though several people here seemed to be astounded that you knew it was menstrual blood.
Hello, I have to tell you about a time when I contacted MMM about one of my employees. She was from NJ or so she said, had left a child behind, slept in her car and was stable now in MN. Her family back home didn't know where she was and she was living with someone who took her in. I learned all this AFTER I hired her. I started looking at her sideways though because she did her hair different ways, the hairpieces and colors and cut pretty short, usually laid flat and pulled back into something. Now, I'm an artist and can do portraits but failed to notice her looks were not really the same at all. Size, perceived personality, the mystery of her leaving her family wonder where she was, got me going on the thought it could be Maura. So I just said so on MM. I sent a camera shot from my phone to Helena and she let people know it was a false alarm. But they checked it out and I felt kinda (?)......sorry, for not having a better look.
