And on the other hand, there's always the method the FBI used when their investigation into the 1964 disappearance of three civil rights workers in Mississippi went nowhere. They hired a guy named Gregory Scarpa from New York to speed things up, which he did by getting right to the point with the lead suspect. What the FBI did was very wrong, but if one of the victims had been my kid, I can't say I'd feel a lot of animosity toward Mr. Scarpa.

This case was messed up from the beginning. The worst police work I have heard about in the area, in years. Look for who.....WHY. There has to be a reason for that decision.

Here you have a completely different case scenerio. At least the FBI was involved when a case that was going nowhere with a lead suspect needed to be cracked. The FBI has full authority in that final say and we don't have that so far with Maura.

Behind every rumor is theory.
behind every theory is a conclusion.
a conclusion can tribute to an answer.
sorry if my speculations obscured the search of the real truth. i may not at all be up to date with all the facts as all the members of (FIT) possess, but all my heart and prayers were out to help find a closure for the murray family.
i am not LE.
i am lacking in computer skills.
i am a local and hard working, that heard a calling for the locals to have a back bone.
well, I've got a back bone and a family to protect and no i didnt come up with these rumors, theorys or speculations with a tin foil hat on my head. oh, wheres the aliens?
well until i have something else to speculate, God bless and may Jesus be with you all.
an answer must start with a theory.
how about that apple.

I agree that it appears the Murray family were poorly treated by LE - and there is no excuse for it if there's no reason for it. But what is often perceived, understandably, as insensitive treatment is simply a routine method of getting the most information possible as quickly as possible, before a story line can be solidified by someone who might later turn out to be a suspect. Making people angry makes them slip up.
LE knows that the vast majority of murder victims knew their killer. In a huge percentage of these cases, it's someone close to the victim, often a family member.
It's hard to keep this in perspective, but LE's first obligation is not to the victim's family; it's to the state, to the public. I'm certainly not defending poor treatment of the family, but LE absolutely has to rule out the potential guilt of any family member as soon as possible. And that's when things can get pretty hot and permanently polarized.
The last thing LE needs is for a grieving family member to take the law into his own hands and ruin a case. In the first few days, no one knows how it's going to play out. LE is human. They do the best they can under stressful conditions. They make mistakes, especially in small towns accostomed to less serious crime. They rely on their experience and their training. For the money they're paid, it's not like you're going to get a lot of ex-Navy Seals with Harvard law degrees to apply for an opening.
Another reason LE often pushes away family members is Miranda. If there is even a small chance that one of them could later become a suspect, a defense attorney could claim that police were actually interrogating the suspect before reading the suspect his or her rights.
It's not like this was a murder case from the very start. In the view of LE, it transitioned from a simple missing person case to one of an endangered missing person to one of possible homicide. Choosing where within that transition time to read Miranda is not easy. And in many cases, once LE says, "You have the right to remain silent," that's exactly what happens.
LE often feels it's wiser to remain passively on the receiving end of information it never sought rather than to actively turn off the source by reading Miranda.

A newly "crashed" car is sitting with a rag in its tailpipe with flashers on. Our 'best' witness says they were off, that he offered help and was told no. The neighbors heard 'oh, no, no, no please' after they had stopped looking because BA was there to help they figured.
EMT was not allowed near, CS runs to closest neighbor "where's the girl, there's a rag in her tailpipe". Those closest neighbors say she was just there, they also say they saw a man (And I don't care about the cigarette or cell phone part of it)they are not referring to SBD at this point near the end/ before police came and while the heavyset SBD was at home calling Police from his porch. Just curious as to why another neighbor claims "her car backed up parallel to the road".....yet closest neighbors hear a loud thud and look out their window upon hearing it. They see SBD there and stop looking, but from where they sit they can hear Maura say "oh, no, no, no please'? The long and short of this is to remind people/inform people some things: It took too long to connect dots, tell Fred his car was there and resist the deliberate lie that they thought it was Fred driving the car, that they thought the car was left by someone snowmobiling and so on.

The best way to get the FBI involved is to convince them that Maura's disappearance is a likely homicide that started as a kidnapping in Vermont or Massachusetts and ended in New Hampshire.
Another alternative is to convince the FBI that Maura was the victim of a serial killer who operates across state lines.
Given the fixation on the Saturn's location, this isn't likely to happen.
Involving the FBI is sometimes a good thing and sometimes not. Look at what happened with Jimmy Bulger and John Connally in Boston. In order to nail Bulger, the Mass. State Police, Boston PD, and the DEA teamed up and left out the FBI because they couldn't be trusted.
And maybe it's possible that the FBI is already included, but they don't want to acknowledge it because doing so might imply the presence of a serial killer who might then flee.
It's a difficult, stressful case that involves a lot of imperfect human beings all the way around.
