hi all, just to recap this because it bugs me.the witness says that the vehicle that sgt Smith was in that night was at the saturn before 911 were called.my best guess is this was around 7.13 p.m.the accident report says sgtSmith arrived at 7.45..the log says sgtSmith arrived at 7.46.the witness also says that sgtSmiths vehicle turned away from the saturn by going left but th P.D vehicle would almost to have done a u turn to be at the saturn when the witness passed the saturn.unless of course the witness is mistaken and the only thing we can verify is when he/she left work at the cottage hospitaland arrived home.take care philip

I hear ya.

Often wondered what types of problems you guys may have been having with drugs up in Grafton County but chose not to ask about specifics. Crack/Coke, Meth, and Heroine seem to be the big 3.

20/20 doesn't air until Sunday, so I'm curious too, was it more than the video online?

That night, asking if was Maura at Cottage hospital is starting to ake more sense to me now.

Ben, I just love analogies, thanks for doing that.

Sophie Bean, I know your posts are appreciated. I think sometimes people referrence a poster, even quoting them, then go off to say more about other things.........forget needlepoint, it's so boring. I like you here and I know that you really care, as much as I know Shack really cares.
Heck, we all really care or we wouldn't spend so much of our time on someone elses life.
To anyone who thinks we're addicted to drama, so be it. Maura Murray is beautiful, smiles like an angel with those dimples and sparkling eyes.......she should be found and we just keep trying to help make that happen.

One of the cameos I received is a light pretty blue and silver. I wear that one most days to remind me of Beth and to remind me of Maura. Blue was Maura's color, how fitting.

Oh and about the gas tank, will someone help me here......
If the tank was full at UMASS, how long til Maura would need to refuel, I have no idea.

Oh, the reason why I brought up the subject of drug trafficking was because Helena countered my theory that Maura may have been abducted by a stranger serial sexual predator by stating that Maura may have been run off the road by a drug traffickers who may have been attempting to elude the authorities.

I have to mull and chew over 20/20 program last night, before I can really formulate my thoughts. I felt it was done well.
But, I do have some "howevers"...ahem... .
Paris...huh? Sunday night is 60 mins...and Dateline...isn't it...?
Hope I am wrong..hope you didn't miss it....
And, my 95 Saturn std shift...gets easy 35 mpg. The needle barely changes (when I start full) on my 135 ish mile trek North. Use 4 gals. plus/minus.
Discussion back to nice n normal as Sophie mentioned.
While you young folks are on the golf course,
I will wait at the 19th hole for you.

IMPRESSION. NOT FACT.
20-20 made it clear that Billy was the only guy for Maura and there's no need wasting time thinking about there being another boyfriend in her life.

So if her dorm room seemed too "packed up" to stay in, or if she had a friend accompany her up north, or for those who think she was leaving to start a new life, it has nothing to do with another love interest. JMHO.

When Shack dropped the bomb about menstrual blood in the closet, that was the first I'd heard or read of that.

Hello all,
Kindly tell me a bit about the 20/20 TV report on Maura´s case.
What did you think of it?
Being in far-away Sweden I was understandably unable to watch myself.
Many thanks!
First thing I thought when I saw Scarinza's face: Now that's a wizea$$. I think I'll take a photo and place it in the dictionary.

He had smirk on his face, kind of arrogant, like he's "wise" to a "scheme" - a "scheme" in which Fred Murray tries to pull one over on him and find his daughter.

Run Forrest [Gump (Scarinza)], run!

Scarinza grabbed the suicide football and ran as fast as he could.

He says - with his wizea$$ face, that it was "clear" that she was suicidal.

He picks and chooses what evidence to disclose. Contradicts himself. She killed herself, but this is an ongoing investigation, so I can't divulge information.

My wife said "He can either talk about the case or he can't, sounds like he's playing footsie with us. Suicide doesn't make sence sine they haven't found a body"

WWKSD?

What Would Kenneth Starr Do?

Certainly not what Scarinza would do!

We should make some T-Shirts with "WWKSD?" stage some 1960 style protests and pass out the shirts for free.

Sincerely,

Kung Fu Master

I think there could be other explanations as to why she did the various things she did. I encourage others to think of them.

Maybe there will be something for the investigators to hang their hats on.

Hello all,

Thanks for some insights into the contents of the 20/20 episode.
It seems then that the NHSP still goes for the unproven suicide theory while at the same time officially pursuing an investigation into Maura´s case.
I seem to have heard that before....

Ben Franklin, you mentioned various ideas as to why Maura took off from Amherst without telling anyone:

1. She was being threatened, harrassed, stalked, etc by someone.

2. Her Saturn car had somehow, one way or other, been involved in the Petrit Vasi hit-and-run case.
I´m not suggesting that Maura herself was in any way guilty of that, but what if she had let a friend of hers borrow her car and that friend hit Mr Vasi with the borrowed Saturn?

3. A case of "dissociative fugue", a condition which often hit college students under a lot of accumulated stress, and which mostly leads to often long-lasting and severe amnesia.

Another thing:

If Maura´s Saturn really was found with the tank nearly full at the Weathered Barn curve (is this a FACT?), then it would be reasonable to suggest that she may have filled the car up somewhere pretty close, say in the Wells River,VT/Woodsville,NH area.
If she did that, it would seem rather unlikely that there would have been no video footage of her filling up her car.
Perhaps LE actually is privy to such footage?
Or any such video footage might have been erased before LE began taking an active interest in the case?

Just another reminder to us all:

Although it is likely that Maura did drive the Saturn herself up north from Amherst, we still have no publicly known proof that she actually did so. As far as I know.
I have to keep reminding myself this, speaking of FACTS.

Euro --- I don't know, but I've always had trouble with the dissociative fugue.. cubicle...vision... lighting... dissociative psychosis ideas.(And it strikes me as odd that so often, in a Google search about ANYthing else, up pops a site about dissociative fugue!) I'll happily eat my needlepoint hat if I'm wrong and Maura is found in that state.

I think that's just his look, he looked the same way in video interviews prior to McKay's funeral. Also, different people will interpret a "look" in many different ways.

If it's an "ongoing investigation", shouldn't they pick and choose which information to divulge?

Yes, it IS relevant see so clearly at this link the mistakes made in Chandra Levy's investigation:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro/sp...

A police sgt who wasn't a computer technician corrupted the history of the sites she visited on her computer. That cost them a month in determining where she might've gone.(Reminds me of returning and reconfiscating Maura's computer. I won't comment on the relevance of this partial list of other mistakes.)

Police didn't check the 7-day-revolving video in her building that would've shown more about when and how she left her apartment -- alone or with someone --- until it was too late.

The area to be searched was first incorrectly identified and then the search itself, due probably to a communication problem, didn't extend quite widely enough (79' more, as intended, would've found Chandra and possible evidence almost a year earlier).

The police focused on the congressman, wasting most of their time looking in the wrong direction, due in part to pressure, the media, the public's fascination with scandal and the lowest parts of human life. And they agreed that there was the manpower and cost problems associated with looking for just ONE person.

Officials (an apologetic Park official) didn't keep complete notes of important interview information and lost what either was, or came close to being a confession.

Police tried to cover themselves when it was found they "missed" finding a large number of additional bones a distance away, and in humiliation reacted with accusations against the PIs who found them, claims that the bones had been removed and replaced, AND EVEN an interrogation of the dog walker-naturalist who initially spotted Chandra's site as to whether he had put back one bone that he might have "collected" after he realized it was part of the case!

A retired policeman from Chandra's case was later quoted as saying, "You can't run an investigation and answer questions the media is asking."

I understand why info in Maura's case can't and shouldn't be released, even though personally it makes me feel frustrated, teased, left out, used, my time and thinking wasted, and talked-down to.(There may be more but my hands are tired.)

Hello Quija,

I´m not saying that the dissociative fugue theory is anymore likely than anything else, just that I think that it would be unwise to dismiss it completely.

I also believe it would be true to say that an inordinate amount of college students have, seemingly inexplicably, been going missing over decades compared with other age groups. There surely must be some reason for this being so.

Another thing that I´ve been thinking about:

With Maura being an extremely fit athlete and West Point cadet, drilled in the harshest possible survival and attack/self defence training at WP, she certainly cannot be described as the average, "next door" kind of girl when it comes to being able to put up a physical fight against an attacker. Looking at the pictures of Maura and being struck by her astounding beauty this is often all too easy to forget.

Also:
If a perpetrator actually managed to get control over the Saturn, why then dump the car at the Weathered Barn curve on Rte 112, surrounded by several homes and with a fair amount of cars passing by intermittently?

Why not just drop the Saturn on any of the myriad minor back roads in the Swiftwater area?
When studying any map of the area I´m always struck by the vast network of minor back roads literally criss-crossing the area.
Even considering the jurisdictional question, there must be a huge amount of such minor back roads, probably practically deserted in winter, south of rte 112 and within the town of Haverhill, if that was of importance for such scums.

With all these possibilities in the area, why risk dumping the Saturn on rte 112 by the Weathered Barn with a far, far greater risk of being apprehended than on almost all the other minor back roads of the area?

I just find that very difficult to comprehend, I must confess.

I missed it. I feel so let down. Everyone told me that 20/20 is not on Fridays. I argued with coworker, looked in paper, thought ok, Sunday then and dang it, did anybody tape it? I really needed to see how people held themselves in this.
