Could the cigarette/cell phone light actually have been an antitheft device in the vehicle?

Adding -> Cigarette smoke seems more likely to drug addicted killers, but that previous point does cause a dent. I can only think if the person was smoking - they felt they had been discovered - not a good time to run. That's it - and I think there was enough time to flee prior to discovery.

If a cell phone - its a major dent in that one - because I can't think it likely that two desparate people would have connections 200 miles away - that just happened to randomly match a place a book in the car was about.

O.K. I really need to go back and re-read Weeper's posts but there has been something nagging at me.

If I'm not mistaken Weeper stated that Maura's VEHICLE WAS STAGED TO APPEAR SHE WAS ABDUCTED. From everything I've read, staging is done in an effort to throw off the police. He also spoke about jurisdictions.

Did anyone else catch that or have I misread something?

Interesting thought. My car has an alarm on the stereo system (it sits on the dash above the stereo) that blinks red when you turn the car off.

I'll be the first to say that I do not think you have misread. I also respect your position in supporting the latest theory. Not to meantion your empathy.

Ok - earlier I said something to the effect - probably better for someone not to (make an acceleration-thud) just park the car - the noise would attract police, etc.

I think people have done well thinking what could cause the red light for example.

I am sure someone can think of a reason why it might be worth it for someone to crash the car - rather then leave it.

Think - what might it accomplish - what could be gained by attracting that attention.

I encourage ideas.

<quoted text> The snow banks were minimal that year--we were in Mountain Lakes at the end of January and there was only a few inches of snow on the ground. We were also up the weekend after Maura disappeared, and the snow was still minimal. There definitely were not huge snow banks....hard icy snowmounds at the side of the road yes, but definitely not anything like other years--not in Haverhill anyway. Even if there was a large amount of snow, they don't allow the banks to get too high because it impairs a drivers ability to see around the bend in that part of 112.
According to the SBD, the driver had to struggle a bit to get out the driver side of the car because the snow bank impeded opening of the door. In support of this statement, SharonR on the MMM forum stated that when she arrived and went to the SR-112 location, she saw the dent in the snowbank that had been made by the door when it was opened. My question is, how high then would the snowbank have been to cause it to be difficult to get the driver door open and to cause the door to then leave a dent in the snow? I picture it as being a snowbank a couple of feet high, would this be pretty accurate?

NICE JOB! Citigirl can you help on the photos? Anyone has any thoughts on
a place we can up load photos, articles ect on a free website.
I could load at least some of them on to the Google documents site where I have placed the Chart. Not sure how much space is available there to use for things like this, but if there is not room for absolutely everything, at least there would be room for a lot of it and for placing links to other archives where the rest can be found. If folks want to do this, just email me and give me links to the info you want collected. Do bear with me, sometimes I can't get stuff up as fast as at other times.

.... Anyway, has anyone in this forum talked to Mr. Stone, or the pastor of the Barton Church?
Half Moon, I called the Barton Church twice and left a message both times (briefly stating I wanted to ask about the person Raykel), this was back a couple of months ago. Never got a call back from anyone at the Church, instead got a call from a member of NHSP who is part of the investigative team on Maura's case, and who wanted to know why I had called about Raykel. I answered his questions. He assured me that this sighting had been investigated and that nothing had come of it.

I think that is the best any of us here can do, at least by phone.

The only reason I can think of that someone might *deliberately* crash the car either in that area or elsewhere, would be to draw police attention to that scene. Maybe to distract police attention from something ELSE that was going on elsewhere? I don't buy the idea that the Saturn was brought to that location on SR-112 specifically to place it in a certain police jurisdiction or out of another particular police jurisdiction ... I just don't think criminals think about jurisdictional lines, but maybe this is because I don't have a criminal mind, dunno.

Advocator, unintentionally, your few words about NHSP calling you regarding your inquiry about the Barton Church gave me a morsel of hope
...that they are indeed attentive and "working on it"...I sooo needed that...!

Also, I agree with you re: criminal minds and jurisdictional borders. Only locals would/could possibly know those confusing T/Ls anyway.

LG, Yes, A Don Nason was on duty in Bridgewater, NH...Bristol, NH area..2 towns bordering South of Plymouth NH...(about an hours drive from/to Haverhill, NH.) on that February 9th 2004 night.
Grafton County is comprised of 40 Towns.
As one can easily see/read from the NHLI site, that is not his full name....all I know is my memory of a pleasant conversation with a guy who was gracious with and to a senior citizen...ahem..

I don't know what difference it makes anyway. NHLI from what I understand volunteered via Molly Bish to help the Murrays. From my limited knowledge, Healy and Nason are not involved
anymore ?...I really don't know.

Anyway, that was 2 years ago...only Weeper from NHLI is still sticking by us. Weeper, if you are still snooping around the corner...hope you can attend the upcoming seminars...woof !

Well, let's see....I odn' thtink the snow bank w ould need to be more than 10 - 12 inches high to impede with opening the door of a saturn. Was the indentation a skim across the top or actually into the side of the bank?

sorry about the typos--its early! As far as my memory of the snowbanks in general, I'd say no more than 18 inches at that time.

I can relate the information obtain
during my HPD interview but I personally
have not spoken to SBD so that is where it gets clear as mud in my own personal
opinion!
Remember that ole game of telephone!
Line everyone up say a line and by the
time the last person says it out loud
it's totally not the same.
Well my view is lots are playing telephone here myself included and trying to return to some solid foundation of comfirmed information.

Whitewash,
I noticed that you didn't add the SBD's statements or actions that evening in your list.
Didn't the SBD's wife call 911 about 'the girl' and didn't the SBD drive down to French Pond and assist in the 'search'?

hi Halfmoon13 and all.i dont know how much light the trunk light would have given off.early on iread about activity being seen at the trunk and the light going on and off.also i remember reading on the old forum that someone was een taking things from the trunk and putting them in the back of the car .i remember thinking if i was leaving a car i would be putting the car contents in the trunk for safety.was someone trying to dig out a jack or something in the trunk .was someone making room in the trunk for slmething.it may be that the driver was in no hurry to get away from the car and planned to get it going again or did someone need the trunkspace in a hurry.also the Westmans were still on the phone with 911 when sgt Smith arrived.i have always assumed sgt Smith went first to the Westmans and then to mr Atwoods now i dont know what he did first.WhiteWash thanks for the link to the galleries.take care philip
