Before the MMM board closed Helena posted some cases from NH. One was Patric McCarthy's death in the mountains (near Loon Mtn?). This little boy was declared to have died from hypothermia from being lost in the woods, yet it was later revealed that he had dirt up his nose, his hands were clean (while hiking, while lost?????), and (I believe) his socks and Electronic Game Player were never found. I brought this up because this is just one of many questionable deaths not fully explored (apparently) to determine if there was foul play.

Also, it was quoted: AG office spokesman Jeffrey Strelzin said it was death by hypothermia. He has made statements in Maura's case that I now feel should be disregarded.

There has been a lot of interesting reading from Quija and Elsewhere. These were from the past Postings that I, personally welcome for
review purposes. Lady Gray, you came through with Silky's maps....for that I am grateful..thank you.

I realize that auto salvage differs from salvage from ie kitchen appliances etc....but, it did bring me back to the paperwork that I saw about CM and his being cited for metal salvage
around his rented Chalet. Several times he was cited also for having a trailer,(truck) filled with scrap, parked across the street from the Chalet. I am not versed about "scrap metal"..

I have often wondered what, if any, information is in the files with SP and/or the TEAM about CM....his common law spouse?...
(I don't wonder if HPD has file info.)
Also wonder about relationship of the people who paid his overdue rent on occasion.

Anne, care to venture a guess as to mileage from 10/302 to that damaged guard rail that Silky saw...? I know I can't.

Back to reading.....

I just read somethin about this case online today and i had never heard of it before. I read about the first 5 pages of this topic then skipped to the end so im sure ive missed a lot on it. I dont know why but im now obsessed with this Maura case. Everything surrounding it is just crazy. If you read the timeline of events leading up to the disappearance theres a lot out of whack. The timelines events shows that Maura was seeming to be acting weird but since I didnt know her i guess i cant say much about that. every college student has their pressures and what not but to tell your professors there was a d eath in your family and your going to take a week off is kinda strange unless your just a huge slacker and dont wanna do anything for a week but it seems Maura was in no way a slacker. She seemed to have it all made but lets face it even the people who seem to have it all still have their problems that they dont say anything about them. She even emailed her soon to be husband saying she didnt wanna talk to anybody. later after that she called him and only talked to him for a minute. I cant remember when i talked to someone i cared about for a minute especially when i know something is wrong. Marua also asked for a map of an area no where close to her home. Now that ive said all the strange things leading up to the disappearance you gotta look at the disappearance. She lied about callin triple A to the bus driver that saw her only 10 minutes before cops get there. no tracks were seen to or from the car and her scent was lost about 100 yards from the car. Now im no detective or anything but this gives me the impression of two different directions. Abduction or Running away. First off if she was abducted the person who did it was very very smart or very careful. Covering up the tracks and losing the scent. From what ive heard about the guy who they thought did it ,where the dogs went crazy in the closet, is that he didnt seem smart. He seems like it would be just a backwoods bashing. Plus theres the call from the red cross calling card. That somewhat points to running away. She was involved in the military and the red cross has been known to work around military with clean ups and things like after huricane Katrina. Whatever actually happened i hope it all turns out ok and like i said im really just rambalng im sure theres much more evidence yuo guys knw that i dont im just really interested in this case

Hello all,

Just a brief return here for awhile, while mainly reading the posts and not posting much myself.

December 1st will actually see the 62nd anniversary of the mysterious and still unexplained vanishing of Bennington College sophomore, 18-year-old Paula Jean Welden, of Stamford, Connecticut.
Please, check out Paula´s Wikipedia page and you will notice quite a few similarities between her case and Maura´s.
Both cases are highly strange indeed and they are both absolutely heartbreaking.

Not to ask a stupid question but where did Nancy Grace get
her facts from?
The Caladonia Records was one!
Did anyone watch the woman who was following the case?
She said it was like Maura had pack to home and just never made it!
Oddly that makes the most sense to me!

Just gonna throw something out there, and I didn't have time to read all the posts so hopefully this isn't redundant. I was just looking at the maps, etc. of the area. I would think that Maura wanted to get away from her busy college life for a while (since she emailed her profs and told them there was a death in the family...which is obviously a lie and is a good lie to get out of work or school when people don't know your family). So she wanted to go rent a condo up north to get away for whatever reason. She had 3 places in mind and just wanted to get away. She knew where the one condo was at in Bartlett (I believe since I read something that said her parents know where it was at). And she had directions to the other 2 places. So think about it. You wreck in a unfamiliar place and don't want to get a DUI. You decide to go to the more familiar of the 3 places which is Bartlett. Hence the track leading east since Bartlett is east. You get cold, etc and someone offers to give you a lift since they are headed that way too. You jump in and take off. Now the other thing that is interesting is the calling card from the Red Cross. An easy google search later reveals there is a Red Cross in North Conway, Mount Washington Valley Chapter. Which is also right near Bartlett. So I would say that someone picked her up and maybe got the calling card from that Red Cross chapter, or she spent a night near there and got a calling card or something. In my mind it makes sense, because maybe her cell phone ran out of batteries and she had to use calling cards and payphones. Anyway, just throwing that out there. I've never been east of Kansas so I do not know that terrain at all, but I'm betting she thought she could walk/run to wherever she was headed and got picked up. Good luck on the search!

If she had any worries about her health, or becomin too cold, I bet she'd call her family with the cell phone she had instead of hopping into a car with a complete stranger. Let's all remember to take in account this was not a stupid girl.

How do they know that she hit her head on her windshield? If her airbags deployed...?
And even with it still being possible, is it also possible that she maybe hit the windshield, or it was maybe from a tree? Is there anyway to see where the impact on the windshield came from? or what sized object it was that impacted it?

Hi new folks!

One thing I want to dispel is that the call made from a calling card CANNOT BE DEFINITIVELY TRACED TO THE RED CROSS. That is an error made by police. They were able to trace it to a calling card, but without the pin number on the calling card (for which one would obviously need the calling card) they can't trace the call any further back than that.

Ashley, they don't know for a fact she hit her head on the windshield. That's a guess. The windshield damage WAS from the inside, though. Apparently sometimes the airbag itself does that, as it deploys with a whole lotta force to do its job so rapidly. Or it could have been her arm....a watch....who knows what else.....but they did determine that the damage came from inside.

As for what size object, that's totally something I can't answer. Physics not my strong point, by a long shot. But that's a good couple of questions. It's been wondered, here and elsewhere, if she'd hit her head wouldn't there be hair or skin or traces of blood or something.....and we don't know the answer to that.

Glad to see new people still finding out about Maura and being drawn to her, and caring enough to ask questions. She has a way of doing that, doesn't she?

Oh....Ashley...you asked about the airbags deploying. Apparently there's some conflicting eyewitness reports about whether or not the airbags were deployed at the scene, earlier, later.....hopefully someone with better record-keeping skills than I will be able to explain that more clearly and provide details.(MCSMOM, are you listening??)

Part of the problem is, there was a previous forum that was many hundreds of pages long, and it was taken down for various reasons. Only the savviest of us, or the most obsessively archival of us, take your pick, have records of some of those conversations. You'll frequently hear round these parts, "I remember from MMM forum that......" It sucks, but there it is.

Yeh Firecat..It is good to point out things that may be or may be not accurate..we do try...and have tried. Another thing is, that in that area of 112, there is no cell coverage.
Yeh, Maura lied....she is pretty, good student but, she is a young woman who lied. Wish we could get her back, to be punished for her
lies. She was headed North...with her maps and written directions..heading for VT..? NH..? but, certainly North.
Soo..if she disappeared in MA..and her car was transported to 112..or if she disappeared in VT, and her car was transported to 112.....
or if she disappeared in NH and her car was transported to 112...it ends up with the same result ...car on 112...no Maura...aarrggh!

"she is a young woman who lied."

As we all do -(and agreeing with you as an echo) fundamentally everyone deserves the protection of justice and the interest of the public in seeking justice when harmed, no matter how "sinful".

Even if the victim only lied once in her whole life: telling grandma that her Thanksgiving dinner of "Tofurkey" was "delicious" with "soyberry" sauce and Metamucil stuffing - to as large as you can guess. Even if she drank like a sailor - she deserves justice. Even if she [Insert Outrageous Crime Here and repeat]- after all - a person under arrest will go to the hospital first before going to jail.
