All -

My apologies if this has already been discussed previously. Concerning Maura's cell phone: all resources I have read say that there has been no activity since her disappearance. So... I'm assuming law enforcement and family members have attempted to call her cell number when she vanished...

Did it ring and go to her voicemail?

Did it not ring, and go straight to voicemail?

Did it simply disconnect?

Not expecting anyone to have answers to this, just wondering out loud. It may at least let LE know if the phone was in an area with reception, no?

Just curious- it seems as if CW's siting of someone who may have been Maura has been largely discounted. I'm wondering why? Is it because it isn't clear that it was Maura that he saw, or is it because he generally is not trusted?
It sounded like the time that he said he drove past this person corresponded to when he would have been driving home after his shift. And, if Maura had ran/walked from the accident to the point of the supposed siting, she could have made it 4 or 5 miles in an hour or so. So, in my mind, the person he saw could very well have been Maura. If it was, then we know that she was travelling East, which would be one more data point.
Difficult to know, however the information was always suspect in some minds as he only came forward April 29th thereabouts, and he did not go to police, the police came to him because he has stated that he had seen this person in the community...initially the police believe him, and maybe they do now, who knows what the police are thinking? Allegedly he discounted the siting as he got the days mixed up, thinking he had seen the person on another day, and not the day Maura went missing...Keeping in mind what makes this scenario suspect is that he was questioned 2 by the 19th of February and he does not think to reveal this information, he alleges he was at home that evening, yet he saw none of the clamour.

I find it odd also, that the SBD did not go and ask him if he had seen anyone on the drive home...as he came from the east where Smith and SBD did not search...

there was a run away youth from a work crew that evening who was trying to throw himself on the powerlines on Lime Kiln Road police called around 2130 thereabouts, so it is plausible that he saw this youth...

However, he would have returned home at approximately 8:15 if he sighted the youth at 2000 hours thereabouts, however if that is true, he would have seen all the police, EMS, Fire and who ever was on site, which sounds like a troupe of people...how he missed the action when he lives 500 yards down the road is beyond me to understand...and if he saw this hubbub then one would think that the sighting of the youth would have run a bell when he was questioned....

I know that my opinion of the SBD and CW are suspect, however I feel they were the authors of their own misfortune, in that they wove tales that were simply not believeable, and perhaps all they were after was 15 minutes of fame

When I learned that the person who sighted the youth lived across the street from the SBD and near the accident site, alarm bells sounded off at full tilt...too coincidential for my liking...
as I don't believe in coincidences...rarely anyway

Still it does not explain how it took him an hour to come a 1/2 drive, however, he might have encountered snow on route, as Anne states there was a dusting of snow that night. He left work from Franconia, and says he checked his log and he left at 1900..

Initally in the news for some time after the accident it was reported that the accident took place at 1900, and I found it fishy first that he lived in close proximity to the accident, that he gives the time of his alibi as 1900, that he takes 3 months to come forward with the information, and suddenly thereafter, it appears that police do not give creedance to his siting,(my estimation) because it is allegedly his trailor was searched, I do not know this is fact.

ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. At least not true at any American college or university that I've ever attended or worked at. It may be a standard in Canada, but I've never even heard of it occurring here in the states.
Probably we could find out right now by logging onto UMass's web site. They'd be sure to have reminder announcements for students if it was the case......
A quick peek at this page: http://www.housing.umass.edu/calendar.html
reveals that the dorms close at noon on 12/20 and reopen on 1/25. So Maura hadn't been back in her dorm for all that long at all. It says nothing about cleaning, getting things off the floor, etc.
perhaps someone could call the University and ask, I would but it is too far away..

I went to college four years, and removed my stuff off the walls and floors so they could be cleaned...every Christmas, there was no notice in our University brocheurs, simply a notice would appear on the bulletin boards...it was the only time the dorm rooms were cleaned...
if the stuff wasn't moved your room didn't get the floors washed and waxed...

Hi Firefly,

I believe Maura's family kept her cell phone active for at least two years after her disappearance.

I believe all calls that were made to her cell went directly to voice mail.

There was recent post by White Wash - thank you - on this forum about a NHSP homicide detective obtaining a search warrant to obtain Maura's cell phone records to determine the last known ping. The last known ping was to her cell phone - a call made to her cell phone - was from a tower in Londonderry, NH. This means that the individual making the call to her cell phone was within a 20 mile radius of that tower. It has not been determined who placed this call, maybe LE knows??

Londonderry is just over the NH/MA border near Manchester. It was stated in the search warrant that the ping was in the late afternoon of Feb 9th.

On the timeline you will find that it was determined through cell phone records available to Maura's family that Maura checked her messages at approximately 4:37. This was the last know activity on Maura's phone until the recent info about the search warrant.

Hope I was of help and if I happen to be wrong about anything I have stated please someone correct me.

Right. See what Shack said from the actual log - NOT MA plates, but NH temp plates.
I had no idea that NH had red-on-white temp plates. I've NEVER seen one, not in ten years at least. I know that VT has red/white temp plates. I was kind of running on the assumption that it might be a VT truck. Now it appears that it could have been MA, NH, or VT. That doesn't narrow it down!
peri - I agree, since the car was supposedly headed eastbound, why was "everyone" looking west? especially "even down to French Pond" - I never understood that - WHY "EVEN" FPR? AND - while I'm on the subject - at first, attention was directed westward, around the store and FPR -then, later, CW comes up with the overheard yarn about spotting a gender-nonspecific person moving "furtively" around 5 miles east?
IF nothing happened to Maura in the Swiftwater area, why all of the wildly differing yarns?
I did not say the red truck had MA plates. I posted an earlier message posted by Lady Gray that quoted a statement by RO describing her encounter with the red truck. It's message #1200 at p. 59.

This is what she said,

"I wish I could give an exact description of the truck but I can not. I was walking that night about 7 p.m to the local store. As I was walking up the hill, a truck passed me and slowed down. When it got to the middle of the hill it stopped in the road. I immediately looked at the plate and noticed it was from Massachusetts. There is only 1 street light there and I could not tell how many people were in the vehicle. As I got closer to the truck it took off up the hill. When I rounded the corner to the store, I could see the truck in the driveway of the store. As I walked into the parking lot, which is well lit, the truck took off toward the crash site,(of course at that time I did not know there was a crash)."

I subsequently posted a message in which I said I'm inclined to assume that she correctly identified the plate as a MA plate. I don't know how long she had lived in MA before this incident occurred, but it seems likely to me that she could distinguish a MA plate from a temporary NH plate. She also specifically looked at the plate and saw it in the light cast by the street lamp. Because of the driver's apparent interest in her as he passed her walking up the hill, she had good reason to look at the plate.

I don't know who introduced the idea that she might have seen a temporary NH plate and mistaken it for a MA plate.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding that I may have created.

checked out the whole nine yards of residence life, wow
Seems Maura's building was co-ed, but they had same sex floors, laundries are located on several floors, there is nothing mentioned about cleaning, other than the respect about cleaning your rooms and keeping clean common living areas such as kitchenettes...
the phone number for housing and assignments is
four, one, three, five, four, five, two, one, zero, zero or go to the university of Mass, housing

Had to spell out numbers as topix does not condone the posting of phone numbers...as they state personal information is not allowed, however this is not personal

If someone leaves near Amherst could they give a call and enquire who cleans the rooms, and if any general cleaning is done over break...thanks, if no one phones in a few days I will...I sent an email to maitenance, but it pinged right back at me..stating there was an error, probably programmed for inhouse U. of Mass students...

Mason fantastic idea, to catalouge the information, as time goes by it is difficult to keep everything straight, for example there has been some misinformation some wittingly some unwittingly, but none the less overtime, fact and fiction become somewhat meshed together and becomes the gospel truth...
I am so sorry that the information on the old forum has been lost, there are likely people who copied it, but not I, and three computers later the information is somewhere in cyberland...and of no use...wonderful if the information was catalogue to be easily accessed, especially for newcomers, and for aging people like myself who cannot keep it straight after 5 years...also many of the articles published cannot be accessed.
for example, the information on p. Vaisi, I searched the internet for 2 hours this p.m. and came up with nothing, and previously I found three articles...one in the University of Mass news and two in main stream media, cannot find them now!
I believe in the accuracy of your visions and I want to recommend a book to you and all of the doubters here. The title is:
Entangled Minds -- Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality by Dean Radin, Ph.D. He is the Director of the Institute of Noetic Sciences in Petaluma, CA. The book discusses scientific research into Psi, or psychic phenomena, and presents the theory that individual human minds are entangled in quantum reality, which is a dimension that exists outside of time and space. He makes the point that while all of us have an ability to retrieve this information only a few of us have the type of ability you have.

Joseph McMoneagle is another person with a "gift." His was remote viewing and he was the subject of many double-blind studies conducted at the Stanford Research Institute.

The book will provide you with an understanding of what's going on when you have your visions and you may find that reassuring and comforting to the extent that you may harbor doubts about your sanity or fear that the information that you are somehow able to retrieve from quantum reality is imparted to you by dark spirits.

The book might not change views that have been formed and solidified into cement by Descartes and Newtonian views regarding the nature of reality, but to people who yet dare to wonder about the mysterious universe in which we live, it may open up a whole new universe of possibilities.

Just to clear it up....

Umass dorms are not cleaned during break. It is more they are inspected to make sure everything is ok. You have to keep the floors clean so the Resident Assistants are able to walk in and look. They are forbidden to actually touch anything.

Correct...I think this was discussed a thousand or so posts back. Would a cell bill show who called if it went to voicemail or didn't get answered?

Interesting.
While appreciating the nature of the affliction/"curse" you describe, I will "bother" to state that if you "don't care" about the opinions of others, I, similarly, choose not to confirm the existence of the realm you describe as it is not my reality.
There is no argument either way.

The phone that was calling Maura's phone was within the 20 mile radius. Maura's phone itself could have been anywhere in the world outside of cell service.

If Maura's phone was within cell service and turned on, the call Londonderry call would have pinged Maura's phone.

If Maura's phone was within cell service and turned off, the Londonderry call would have pinged Maura's phone, and I believe a DNR response from Maura's phone would have registered at the tower, indicating the status of Maura's phone as turned off.

If Maura's phone ran out of battery, it would register at the tower as being turned off initially. There is a preset time with each cell service company that allows the calls to go directly to voice mail, after a DNR response, or the phone has lost battery power. In other words a false DNR for a period of pre set time.

Kathleen, or Tammy on the old forum stated they tried Maura's phone in the days following her disappearance, that it would go to voice mail.

I think we need to unleash an expert on this. Somewhere along the way, there should be a tower that would have picked up the final location of Maura's phone.

Thanks Mcsmom,

I was pretty certain that the call made to Maura's cell phone that pinged off the Londonderry tower was within a (20) mile radius of the tower itself.

You are of course entitled to your opinion but this doesn't sound like someone who even believes it’s of much use himself.

McMoneagle writes "Now, I’ve been doing RV for over thirty years and I’ve done tens of thousands of remote viewings of somewhat demanding importance, under incredible stress. In all of those RVs, I’ve experienced perhaps twelve or fifteen Ah-has, so that’s how rare they are. If you have a great deal of expectation for them they usually won’t occur; they usually happen when you least expect them."

Read the National Geographic test. That seems least biased to me.

And some food for thought, if there are only 10 to 15 Ah-has in thirty years, roughly one every other year and half to two years. Then the other tens of thousands of remote viewings did what? Headed people in the wrong direction? Gave information that changed the way things were looked at or approached? Actually allowed things to happen that may have been prevented if another approach was taken?

It should be useful to note that I started as a believer. It took digging to determine that there was nothing useful there.

I am not trying to pee on anyone’s weenie roast here but if you keep pushing I will respond.

Again, you are allowed to believe anything you want but when someone tries to pass it off as a "tool" that’s when I start having trouble with it.

YES, YES, YES! This has been gone over. I wasn't even going to mention it because we all went over it.

Can't really blame the new people but we really need a FAQ so the new people can be referred to it.
