Hi all . I have always wondered why it took Maura one hour to get from Kennedy Hall to the point where she bent the toyota. Do you know the location where she crashed the Corolla? I'd like to mark it on my Google map. Also do we have a copy of the accident report?

Hate to be a pest, but do you know what the weather was like when she crashed the car, or can you recommend a website where I can look it up.

Gracias,

The accident report can be found on the Hanson Express series. The accident happened at the "T" intersection of N. Maple St., and N. Hadley Rd. I've been to the site and clocked the mileage as 4 miles from the front door of Kennedy dorm to the accident site (if coming from the lot next to Kennedy, it would be (1) right hand turn onto N. Hadley and straight driving to the intersection).

How would LE know to stop all red trucks?
<quoted text>
Hello White Wash & others,

Some other witness(es) other than RO may have observed the red truck in connection with a possible earlier accident involving Maura´s Saturn prior to the Weathered Barn site.
If so, the red truck could well have been known by LE prior to the statement by witness RO.

Regarding the Corolla crash. Do we know for a fact that it took Maura over an hour to leave the Kennedy Hall party and arrive at the crash site? If so, it might explain the reason she was not arrested for drinking and driving. According to witnesses at Kennedy Hall, she had been drinking, but if she had stopped drinking in advance of leaving the party, and then had an additional hour to "sober up" then perhaps she would not have been intoxicated any longer. Also, if I may speculate for a moment, perhaps it was in this hour that something happened to upset her, which had more of a bearing on her crashing the Corolla than any alcohol that was in her system. Combine whatever may have upset her in this hour, with a potential fight, argument, berating she may have received from her father after she wrecked his brand new Corolla, maybe it was enough to finally set her over the edge and plan an escape from her current life. If this scenario has any chance of being true, I doubt that those things alone would have been enough to make her feel the need to get away. There was probably a lot more going on, and it is likely the posters of this forum will never know the answers.

I would agree, given the chance that this scenario is possible, that the students she knew should be reinterviewed. Many of us have deduced the possibility that her students friends at UMASS (of which it appears she had few) know more than they have let one. The prime example of this is the student who proclaimed that she did not want to get Maura in trouble. That's big. Did Maura do something that would get her into trouble?

Regarding a reinterviewing of her student friends at Amherst, is it possible that LE has already reinterviewed these students and we are just not privvy to this information? Or, is it possible that LE didn't interview these students because they already know what happened to Maura, but their hands are tied in terms of doing anything about it? Perhaps the evidence clearly points to a perp, but the evidence is too circumstantial to hold up in court. I have a suspicion that this may very well be the case, and that, perhaps, the case is truly 75% resolved (in their eyes) and has been for a long time.

Here is a question for Mason, any attorney, legal expert, or someone involved with LE, or knows the law: It has been mentioned on this board that if Maura had wanted to disappear, that the family didn't really have any rights in terms of knowing her location, if she were still alive, etc., because she was an adult. I'm assuming that this is due to a law having to do with the invasion of privacy (which in my mind is a good thing), but correct me if I am wrong. Is it possible, even just remotely, that Maura contacted LE after her disappearance and told them she went missing out of her own volition and had no want to be found, rescued, etc., and did not want her family to know her location, or if she were still alive? I'm sure this is a stretch, just wondering about the possibility of such a thing. Would LE be allowed to say, ok, then, we'll stop looking for you? Or are they obligated to continue looking for her if such an event were to occur, even if they knew for a fact that it was Maura they were in contact with? I know it's a stretch, but this scenario, or a scenario where a perp has been identified but LE lacks circumstantial evidence to make an arrest, would both help to support the reasons why such a tight lid has been held over this case by LE for the past 4 years.

I'm still curious as to why, as I've gleaned from conversations on this board, she wasn't arrested for DUI if she had been drinking before the accident. Is it naive for me to think that she had stopped drinking for awhile prior to driving? PO's love to give DUI's. It's curious as to why this officer didn't. He must have had a good cause, or is it naive for me to think he wouldn't have let her go since he felt she may already be in enough trouble. No way, I say. Do you think she lied to him when he asked if she had been drinking and that he fell for it?(Again it's possible that the effects of alcohol had worn off by time of the accident). Maybe he never questioned it, but I doubt it. For some reason he didn't give her a DUI, but I highly doubt that he didn't pursue the possibility that she had been drinking. Do you think he had a hand held breathalizer, and that she passed? I don't remember ever hearing if she was taken to the station for a breathalizer.

Exactly! How WOULD they? So if it's true that they were, they must have had additional reason other than RO.

Probably because he didn't think she'd been drinking. It's not really known how much Maura had to drink that night.

Presumably a cop in a college town (Amherst has 5 colleges in the surrounding environs) knows what a DUI on a weekend night looks like (!), and if Maura had presented herself as a potential, she would have gotten nailed to the wall with it, cute female or no.

So my take on that has always been either she didn't appear drunk or she wasn't drunk.

I NEVER heard Maura was taken to the station at all. Never heard about a breathalizer. Just the accident report of driver distracted. Common sense says she had had SOMEthing to drink with friends, and I believe various articles (accurate journalism or maybe not) did say that she was at a little party drinking with friends. The tube of COLGATE toothpaste (in that sad picture of her sister Kathleen with Maura's possessions spread out around her) makes me think that after Maura skidded out into the T-intersection and before Officer Ruddick appeared, that Maura "minted" up her breath with that toothpaste. As I've said, and others have said, it might've been better if she HAD been taken in to the station for a DUI as it might've derailed the events leading up to her disappearance. Or maybe not.... I'm guessing a fingerful of Colgate toothpaste along with Maura crying after an upsetting, surprise skidout kept the officer from issuing a breathlizer, etc. JMO

Hi all,
Last night Firecat sent me a screenshot of her TOPIX page where one of my posts (with the link to Advocator's new forum) was deleted. A missing post number!

I sent Firecat a screenshot (which hopefully worked) of MY computer screen which still showed ALL my deleted posts, including THAT one.

SOOOOO.... repeating myself.... each of us MAY see a different set of posts than the others!!

Some people might get mad wondering why all their posts THAT THEY CAN STILL SEE haven't been responded to. Well, if they've been deleted by TOPIX Post Security Censors (haha) for whatever reason --- containing a LINK, a swear, another poster claiming abuse, then again I want to say that before we get pissed at being ignored, not receiving an apology or whatever, that we need to check it out in reality!

I'm gonna go visit Advocator's new site. I don't think this kind of uncontrollable deleting will occur there.

At the risk of being flamed - what if it was a bad cop that night? Could this have caused her to want to get away?
