Did he by any chance mention a vast pro-life conspiracy?:)(just kiding Beagle)
No, but Rockefeller wanted his pituitary gland and Vasi said no way.

The Rockefellers hope to reconstruct history by sort of bringing back the dead. Not that they'll remember much, but they want to clone some historic figures to see how their brains worked. One of their plans is to put a bunch of Native Americans (St. Francis, QC Indians) that have been cloned and aged to adulthood into Historic Deerfield where, ala February 1704, they can get angry enough again to take a bunch of captives north toward Newbury and beyond. That's the plan anyway.

Instead of recruiting local amateur historians to give those guided tours of the historic houses period style, they can just get clones of the original owners and they should be all set. Re-enactments will never be the same.

Great, we've got two bona fide lawyers here. So they should be able to understand and answer a simple question.
How could Maura be confidently and successfully accused of having driven the Saturn at the time Vasi was hit on Thursday night if, in fact, she did not drive it?
I feel like I addressed this already. I also don't think its a legal question. She could be accused of it if - say - evidence connected her car to the accident and no other evidence suggested that someone else was driving it. Would that lead to a conviction, impossible to say. But she could be accused under such circumstances. However, if she identified the other driver and could point to people who would corroborate that she was at work, and could show that she had some kind of relatoinship with alternatively alleged driver and if there was some connection between him and the car - fingerprints - then the evidence would point to X.

I feel like I am missing your line of inquiry, but I might not have read the posts of the person you were discussing this with. So forgive me if my comments are out of context or missing the point.

LOL, let's not give the man anything else to freak out about, mcsmom. I don't care where his Panera is. Some towns in my state, there are almost as many of them as there are Starbucks.(Starbuckses? Starbucks-i? Damn! The nerd has been caught with her grammar-pants down!)
Starbucks-i ... good stuff.

Ya. Me too alsho. But you really ought to check out the other site. The information there is somewhat organized (which was the whole purpose). And its handy to have a PM function so people don't have to listen to us rhapsodize endlessly about King County.:-p

I'm actually trying to decide whether to run the inaugural R&R Marathon out there this summer.(the R&R is a series, and they added Seattle this year. Actually I think it starts in Tukwila. Woo.)

In spite of myself, Alden, I really like your sense of humour a lot of the time.:) This is hysterical.

Actually, yes, so I totally got that slogan reference!
HA! Good stuff! I immediately got the reference. I went to Boston University and was raised in Philly. I used to pick up 1010 back in the 80s sometimes when I drove back and forth. I remember that slogan and reading it mimicked in your post took me back like 20 years, which is wierd, because if any one factor really drew me into this case, it is my affection for the white mountains and particularly that area, developed while in college at BU.

Allright, look, this has all the marking of a clever, humorous, satirical comment. I applaud it on those grounds and refuse to consider the possibilty that you are serious.

why couldn't she be threatened and accused? but by whom?
whether the accusation could be confidently and successfully realized is another matter. the fear would be a sufficiently frightening prospect.

backtracking a bit...it is doubtful that someone other than a student would need to borrow a mechanically compromised saturn.

therefore, any schlep in need of borrowing such a car would have had little clout over Maura, anyway.

Beagle,

I think you've already made this point, but there's a difference between what could have happened under applicable law, which you've posted here, and what she may have feared would happen to her based on what someone may have told her. Someone with an interest in the outcome; someone who may have struck Vasi while driving the Saturn.

My problem with this scenario is that it seems to be the sort of thing Maura would not have been afraid to discuss with her dad and/or Billy. And it's the sort of situation that would lead many people to consult with a lawyer, which is what she should have done because that's one of the services lawyers provide and the discussions are protected by the attorney-client privilege.

Unfortunately, some folks decide to handle problems like this on their own and that may have happened.

I believe Maura's work alibi would have prevailed and, depending on how she described, the driver/caller may have been looking at some additional charges like extortion, taking a motor vehicle without the owner's permission, or auto theft in addition to hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident. Of course, until Mr. Vasi's condition improved, which didn't happen before Maura left town (assuming she left town) the primary concern would have been a vehicular homicide charge.

So, I think her legal jeopardy would have been more imagined than real. I don't believe she would have been in much, if any trouble.

Since you mention Seattle, I'll elbow my way in. I was in Seattle fall 2002. I'd never been there before. We were near a part of some harbor near alcoholics beach or whatever, where the big boats from the far east come in. I looked at one ship piled really high with containers. I think it was from Korea. I said, that ship is going to fall over. Then we drove back to Woodinville. Front page next day's paper: Container Ship Overturns in Harbor. IOW, it was obvious to someone who knew nothing about container ships, but concealed to the experts on the subject.

Yeah. This is like big a crazy family from Mars that likes to knock each other's heads when we get tired or bored of knocking our heads against the walls and we're too stupid to stop and not smart enough to figure out that we can't solve this case without more information that nobody is going to give us.

Reminds me of one of the biggest disappointments of my childhood. My plastic toy boats would never float right side up in the bath tub. I was certain that a giant conspiracy existed to manufacture boats that floated upside down and my parents were in charge.

All my trust issues stem from those times.
