What reason do I or does anyone have to believe that a poster using the moniker Detective Columbo or Weeper(2) is a PI and even if they are, since PI's are, as part of their job, trained liars, why should I believe them about anything.

Only a moron or a liar would defend these creeps who imply or allow it to be implied that they are PI's. Det. C expressly avoided the opportunity to verify his identity. And you know it.

By the way, for me, this forum is about my own curiousity about a fascinating case. It does not seem likely to me that this forum will much affect the fate of the search for Maura, but I realize it could. In any case, I participate only because I find the case very interesting and hope that it is solved.

I looked at your link. Thanks for posting it. For me, it is hard to imagine a 21 year old girl with many relationship, including a boyfriend, dropping everything and disappearning off to a new life because of strife with her father. I wonder if the locals' collective opinion is influenced by Fred's frequent presence on their properties. One of the newspaper articles stated that the police had to threaten Fred with arrest because the locals were complaining about his trespassing, although some of the locals were sympathetic to him.

If nothing else, their posts are consistently reasonable (i.e., not angry, accusatory, full of name calling) and indicate to me both a sincere interest in the case and a great deal of knowledge about it. In the end, regardless of who they may or may not be, this is a good thing. It also tends to suggest that they are who they claim to be, but does not prove it.

Thank you. But did you mean that finding Maura should not include any discussion about her family? Some posters seem to think that her family was somehow invovled in her disappearance.

The other way of looking at it is that the search for what happened to Maura is a search for justice, not specifically a search to help her family "bring her home." Some believe that an investigation (usually, their own) should center on locating her body so that her family will have peace. Others believe that finding out WHY Maura disappeared will serve the interets of the state (as in all of us) by reducing the chance that the same fate will meet others. IOW, a successful prosecution helps reduce crime. That's why is always "the State of X v. John Doe."

(And, no, I am not a lawyer. I'm not from Washington State, Washington DC or any of DC's suburbs, or from Kentucky.)

You might be right that as I learn more I will reach a different conclusion about FC. However, I have observed that when asked a direct question about a case related idea, FC answers it forthrightly. Frankly Beagle, you at times tend to spew intrique or outrage, but when asked about it, reply with long, meandering obfuscations or accusations or outrage. Although, again, I will say that at other times, you offer tremendous, clear and helpful observations and analyses.

Because the majority of questions that are asked of me PERTAIN TO MAURA and Firecat actually has more history on the investigation than I do.

For the first couple of years I was involved on Brianna Maitlands forum because I am a property owner up that way and I felt there were plenty of people contributing to Maura's forum and not enough on Brianna's. Although I tried to be equally involved in both I missed every single post on MMM while Firecat did not.

Any lawyer would know why certain specifics cannot be mentioned on this board. Theories can be discussed in general terms, and in some cases, in specific terms, but what else am I going to say? That the pharmacist was John Doe? Or suggest it might have been John Doe.

The constant need for a large number of posters to post nothing of value themselves - nothing really original and substantial - but to bash or ask question that would only get the original poster in trouble is revealing in itself.

If you are an attorney, then you should be able to know how to make progress on this board and still keep the discussion within the law.

Basically, the mission of posters like FC, SB, EWB and others is to make sure that if anyone comes up with pertinent information that it is capped off and sealed before it can get out. Some of their efforts are exceedingly subtle and invisible to most readers. Such as one just used by FC. She was deliberately using a test phrase to check a reaction. Then she defends herself spuriously by saying that she was, as they say, kidding. Anyone who talks like that tips their Hadley hand.
