This was in the 1950's, over a half century ago. Somewhere in this storm of opposing forces is IMHO the reason Maura Murray disappeared.

Which is why I feel irritated by the fact that the only thing Fred said about Weeper and Detective Colombo on the occasion of the Feb 5 2009 5th anniversary is to criticize them in a newspaper interview. Not only are they working hard but they are doing this pro bono.

Suzanne, I believe that Mr Murray knew from the beginning of the PI's investigation that all info would go to the police and not to Mr. Murray as it still is an open case.

I don't have the link but i think it was The Caledonian for Feb 5 or 6 2009. There were about 5 or 6 different articles I read around that time, all being prompted by the 5th anniversary.

My birth name is Frederick Denman Leatherman, Jr. My father’s name is Frederick Denman Leatherman and my mother’s name is Phyllis Dellinger Leatherman. Both are dead. I have no brothers or sisters. When I was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1976, I was fond of calling myself Fred Leatherman because it was shorter and less formal than my birth name and there was no possibility that anyone would confuse me with my father since he never resided in Washington State. For approximately 20 years, I have used Frederick Leatherman although my friends call me Fred.
Mason is the only name I’ve ever used to post comments here or anywhere else on the internet. I have provided more personal information about myself on Topix and the new site than anyone has a right to know. Nevertheless, Dawn, aided and abetted by John, continues to claim that I am not myself. John has supported her false claim by stating that she has protected the “real” Fred Leatherman’s reputation by exposing me as a devious pretender. I would appreciate his desire to protect my reputation, if I believed it was genuine. My response is,“Thanks, but no thanks. I know sleazy lawyer-speak when I see it.” For those of you who are concerned about my personal safety when the “real” Fred Leatherman comes knock-knock-knocking on my door, you may rest assured that I am not the least bit concerned about a confrontation with him.
As the following posts demonstrate, Dawn and John’s accusations are false. Please read and judge for yourselves.
1. December 17, 2008: I posted Topix Message # 10205 at page 507, which reads in pertinent part:
“Dawn,
Please stop with the speculation that I am posing as a number of different people posting here. I am Mason and I never have posted to this forum or any other on the internet using any other name.
I've been called Alden, Beagle, Professor Plum, Benji, and now Quija. Possibly others.
I don't play those kinds of games. I do not have multiple personalities and frankly it's starting to piss me off.”

2. January 5, 2009: After I suggested she Google my name, I received three PMs on the new site from Dawn. The first message did not pertain to my identity. Messages 2 and 3 stated,
“I am not trying to offend you but I did Google you and can't find you in KY???????? How do I do that? I only see seattle info.”
(My Comment: I normally would not disclose any information about a PM or its contents except when the other person has placed my credibility in issue and the PM contains relevant and material information)

3. January 7, 2009: I received the following PM from Dawn regarding my credentials.
“Mason,
Still waiting.......... update?”

4. January 8, 2009: I replied to Dawn’s PM regarding my credentials with this PM.
“Sorry, update on ... what?
Do you want a resume?
Can we attach files to these messages? I don't see an attachment button.

At your convenience, send me an email and I'll reply with my current resume attached. If you aren't comfortable sharing your email address, that's ok. I'm sure can figure out another way.
BTW, I no longer practice law. I'm a law professor. I don't think Google has anything on me for the past 3 years, which is the period I've been teaching.”

5. January 17, 2009: I posted this message on the new forum responding to Ben Franklin’s post regarding his verification of my IP address in Paducah. The thread is entitled Character Assassination and Gossip.

Nice work. Actually, it's Paducah, Kentucky. Not Kansas. The printout is right. I think you may have erred interpreting KY as Kansas.

7. February 9, 2009: I sent the following PM to Dawn.
“On Friday, January 30th, when almost everyone in western Kentucky was without heat, electricity, telephone service, and access to the internet including me, you posted the following false information on the Topix site.

“1. Any updates on Gary Ridgeways attorney? You know he has a horrible reputation.(Message # 13166, p. 654)
2. Keep in mind the DEFENSE attorney for Gary Ridgeway would NOT let people know where his home address or town was located. This guy has a target on his back and always will for DEFENDING a cold blooded murderer. He would not use the public internet either. Dedicated connection so those that are looking for him - can't find him. Believe me – a lot of families are looking for him." (Message # 13168, p. 654)
3. Although I do think it was a brilliant attempt at diversion. Picked the wrong attorney to impersonate.(Message # 13171, p. 654)
4. He was briefly in Kentucky......... there is another Fred Leatherman there..... not the one you are looking for.( Message # 13173, p. 654)
My power was not restored until a few days ago and my cable service was restored yesterday. I read your remarks today and I'm not surprised that you selected a time when I was unlikely to read and contradict your false statements.
I expect you to post messages on this site and Topix retracting your false statements and apologizing to me.
You also need to see a counselor because your persistent and factually unsupported obsession to convince everyone on both sites that I am not the person I claim to be is irrational.
I have politely asked you several times to stop this nonsense and you have willfully refused.
If you're looking to be sued for libel, you're doing a damn good job.”
(My Comment: Her statement that I have “a horrible reputation” is false. The correct spelling is Ridgway. I was one of eight lawyers appointed to represent Mr. Ridgway at public expense. We do not have targets on our backs and I do not fear retaliation by a member of a victim’s family. Mr. Ridgway pled guilty to 48 counts of Aggravated Murder in exchange for a sentence to life in prison without possibility of parole.)

8. February 10, 2009: I sent this PM to Dawn.
“I do not fear reprisals from anyone and I do not feel the need to change the way I connect to the internet.
You said some nasty things about me. I have an excellent reputation as a lawyer and I'm proud of my thirty years of service to the public. You said I have a bad reputation and a lot of people are after me. That is BS.
I also am proud of the job I've done teaching.
Disagree with me all you want but don't spread lies about me and stop with the nonsense that I am not the person I claim to be. I am sick of it.”
