The 9/11 photographer is really sticking out to me... With Billy most likely to be shipped out to war - Iraq. Seeing ground zero - in person. Nothing can prepare you for it. Brings everyone to their knees......... I could see her getting some pieces reminding her on why the war was important........... politcal views during 04

Dawn said regarding Maura's trip to New York with Billy and their visit to Ground Zero,

"I could see her getting some pieces reminding her on why the war was important.......... politcal views during 04."

Since Maura loved reading The Onion, I suspect she was staunchly opposed to the War in Iraq because she believed Saddam and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and she would have been horrified that 9/11 was used to promote the war. This may have created discord with Billy, depending on his view.

Not only would Maura have seen the war as unjustified and pointless, but her love and concern for Billy's safety in Iraq may have been tinged with anger against the government for sending him there.

She may have believed she would never see him again after he left for Iraq.

I have never read the Onion.. I guess I need to.

One could still want pictures of 9/11 - regardless of the war or not. I think anyone who visits New York could not walk away without feeling moved from the experience. Only art work I saw that stuck out. Who knows what kind of art she liked..........

Yes, and it was likely the omission of the word "Chief" by the investigators that led to their denied visitation.

PWAH! Thanks for the warning. Of course, having read it, and being a cat, and thus filled with curiosity......

....I looked.

AAAAHHHH! You used the word "panties." Please, in the future, refer to them as "prim white cotton undergarments for the behindular region." can be abbreviated to PWCUFTBR.

For those of you who think I've gone off the deep end, a while ago I caused a kerfluffle for using the word "drawers" because I have a deep-seated (oh my, excuse the pun!) personal aversion to the p-word.

Thanks for remembering, WW. I think.

Dawn,

Maybe the 9/11 exhibit was upsetting to Maura. But the artist, the photographer, is about 70 now. I went to lots of his exhibitions because he did Cape Cod photos. The exhibit may have moved her, but I doubt she had involvement with Joel.

Altho, now that you mention it --- maybe she bought prints or had a grouping of his photos (card-sized) on her dorm wall? I dunno....

Whitewash, do you think there's any chance Maura gathered her stuff, left the Saturn and walked west to the corner of BHR, lurked in the shadows until SBD wasn't watching and went up Bradley Hill Road? Do you think she might have tried to double back to her car to retrieve any additional stuff using that long driveway that Columbo said the Red Pickup was parked near? The one he said was about 1/2 mile up BHR? I'm not sure I really believe there was a red pickup there or called in as a suspicious vehicle because it wasn't in any of the logs (as far as i know).

Oh my.. I never intended to suggest she had involvment with the artist. A few days back - there were posts about how it was odd for a college student to have "art". I got to thinking - scary I know. Of course she had art - she worked at a gallery. Only people in her room KNEW what art she had - that is why the gallery is a mystery - only a perp could identify what was in her room. LE always holds info back - always - this could be cruicial in solving this. Thats why they can't say which gallery. Obviously, the family knows which one and has GOOD reason to not give that out. More clues at Amherst.

Someone out there has the answers. I do not know what it will take to find those out. I am going back to my own theory. Exposure - knowledge gained. Get the word out. Write Govenor Lynch. Takes two minutes - write Oprah, Montel, everyone you know.......... That will tell whoever is hiding info - and someone is- you can't hide forever and everyone leaves some kind of trace evidence.

Fred - you work with any profilers that could take a look at this. They did a good profile of Gary Rigway - if I remember right it was down to his exact age.

I agree. The only reason I mentioned the war is to point out that it may have been a considerable source of disagreement between Maura and Billy as well as a source of elevated fear and concern by Maura regarding his life and safety.

I have no way of knowing whether either of these issues were affecting them individually or as a couple, but issues like these can produce a sense of there's-no-tomorrow. People behave quite differently when the present seems to be ruled by the unexpected and their faith in a safe and predictable future is shattered.

I suspect Maura was deeply affected by these issues, much more than Billy, anyone in her family, or anyone in her circle of friends. How this psychological state affected her day-to-day decision-making process is unknown to all of those people.

Something was different; something was wrong. To whom did she turn for companionship? Someone of like mind who would understand how she felt? Or did she just immerse herself in study and work?

Questions like these fascinate me because I've experienced those states of mind. They changed me forever and I knew with absolute certainty that I could never go back. I'm definitely projecting my experiences onto Maura, so I could be 100% wrong.

Therefore, I cautiously push it out onto the table and offer it as food for thought and discussion.

The only profiler I have worked with is Brent Turvey. I worked with him on the Guy Rasmussen case in Pierce County during the late 90s.

With the exception of Brent, I haven't had much regard for profilers. You could even say that I'm predisposed to not believe them. I'm also critical because the profile they develop in any given case can lead investigators to foreclose certain avenues of investigation which, if pursued, might have led to the perpetrator's arrest before the perpetrator struck again.

Profiling isn't very scientific, in my opinion.

Wouldn't you want the perp arrestted BEFORE they strike again????????
I have always found them to be interesting. Sometimes almost scary how close they are to the real deal.
People always leave clues - there has to be some that have been over looked OR most likely case is that LE has not let them be known. After 5 years I would think it would be time to let out some info and follow the trail.

If this was my daughter - I would take every angle possible - PI, profiler, pyschic - sylvia browne is damn good. anything at this point. And yes Alden - I would search Amherst with a fine tooth comb.
