I know we don't see eye to eye on Gary R. However, they did have him profiled pretty darn well - and in fact even brought him in for questioning and let him go.

I think it would be helpful if LE had a profile and then matched that up again a few years later and see what they come up with.

In my experience (haha), the MMM forums were cliques. Anything referring to Amherst, to Maura's entire prior life, to the police procedures followed that night being acceptable, to alcohol, to suicidal ideas, to running away, to family interaction problems, etc. were ignored or belittled. Same even if we ventured to suggest that perhaps Mr. Murray's attitude engendered a distancing of the local PD. Those forums were set up by extended family, so, altho "public", a part of their purpose was to control the direction things were going. I don't think that was unusual --- trying to create an image of Maura that everyone could admire and not find fault with. You really don't want discussion labeling her as "just a troubled girl" that the public would then dismiss.(Maura was not in that category IMO.)
Basically, tho, posters who weren't part of the old group were just left out, ignored, "spoken to" in PMs, etc. Although this forum is often totally out of control, posters get it together themselves and eventually get back on track. The new forum too allows thinking out of the box.
just my 2 cents' worth.

Very well said, much better said than my less tactful attempt to say the exact same thing.

Wouldn't you want the perp arrestted BEFORE they strike again????????
I have always found them to be interesting. Sometimes almost scary how close they are to the real deal.
People always leave clues - there has to be some that have been over looked OR most likely case is that LE has not let them be known. After 5 years I would think it would be time to let out some info and follow the trail.
What perp?

Curious about the campus phones......... Umass would probably only update maybe once every 8 years. They are on a mpls network by now for sure. I am very curious about what they were using at that time. Where in the campus was the call traced to? A dorm ? which one ? a common area ? common for whom?

The only profiler I have worked with is Brent Turvey. I worked with him on the Guy Rasmussen case in Pierce County during the late 90s.
With the exception of Brent, I haven't had much regard for profilers. You could even say that I'm predisposed to not believe them. I'm also critical because the profile they develop in any given case can lead investigators to foreclose certain avenues of investigation which, if pursued, might have led to the perpetrator's arrest before the perpetrator struck again.
Profiling isn't very scientific, in my opinion.
Fred
The profile for the DC Sniper was one white male, it turned out to be two black males, well at least they got the male part right.

The perp was in reference to post to Fred L - about profiling a perp - he said something like - by using a profiler you might arrest them before they strike again - guess for more evidence.. only a guess - I was saying - nail his a$$.

hope that helps

AAAAHHHH! You used the word "panties." Please, in the future, refer to them as "prim white cotton undergarments for the behindular region." can be abbreviated to PWCUFTBR.
For those of you who think I've gone off the deep end, a while ago I caused a kerfluffle for using the word "drawers" because I have a deep-seated (oh my, excuse the pun!) personal aversion to the p-word.
Thanks for remembering, WW. I think.
Way too funny. Keep enriching my vocab.- love 'kerfluffle'. No one under 70 uses the word 'drawers'...nooo, you can't be. Even mcsmom uttered the word 'thong'. C'mon FC, loosen up. ;-)

Scarinza said he is hoping someone from UMass might come forward with new information regarding Maura's disappearance. His hope is that Maura did confide in someone as to why she decided to leave school.

"We don't know why Maura left school... Clearly it was her intention to leave school. Clearly she had a destination in mind when she came up north. What clearly did not make sense was that she didn't confide in anyone," Scarinza said.

PROFILE No. 1:

He believes himself to have been, in his previous life, Bill Sanger, Margaret Sanger's first husband. He was close to Kristen Gilbert. He moved north to live near the birthplace of two of America's most gifted architects. He is a draftsman. The orbital order and the letters of both names have the same number.

Sanger was a draftsman at McKim, Mead, and White, while the famous architectural firm was competing for the design of Grand Central Terminal, the most prominent exterior feature of which, one might say, is dominated by Hermes (Mercury) who, according to Wikipedia, "is athletic and is always looking out for runners, or any athletes with injuries who need his help."

He is easily found every weekend, doing the same thing.

Dr. Maurice Godwin's conducted a profile for the I-95 Sniper. He stated there would be two perpetrators and he was right.

To whom did she turn for companionship? Someone of like mind who would understand how she felt? Or did she just immerse herself in study and work?
Questions like these fascinate me because I've experienced those states of mind. They changed me forever and I knew with absolute certainty that I could never go back.
Fred
No one mentions any meaningful leads from her computer history, aside from directions to Stowe.

Maura's friends should also have been a rich source of info. Hard to believe there was not one friend she'd confide in.

Excellent students don't mind retreating to their academic obligations...a comfort zone in the sea of change.

As Dawn often says, someone knows something.

***I've experienced those states of mind. They changed me forever and I knew with absolute certainty that I could never go back.***

I could take a guess, but I'm not sure what you mean, Fred.
