ALSO:
In an interview with WCVB-TV, Maura's older sister, Kathleen Murray of Hanover, Mass., admitted that she had a phone conversation with Maura that evening. "It was just a regular phone call. It made no difference to me. It was just Maura calling me, that was that. I told her about my day and quarreling with my fiancée," Murray said. "I don't know what I could have done to upset her... Seriously, I think she just wanted to get out of work." New Hampshire State Police Lt. John Scarinza is one of the lead investigators on the Murray case. He disputes Kathleen Murray's statement about her sister trying to leave work early. |

Obviously, this is not the call that came in around 1am. Just another note....

This was the part I was trying to show so I brought it back again. |

just me, Thank you. Do you know what time the phone call was received?
It seems to me that identifying the location of the call and saying that Maura's friends have no idea who called her is kind of two not necessarily related statements. In other words, did the call come from a place where her friends congregate? A sorority for example? Or did the call come from a private residence rented out by a number of college students? Or was the call one that came from another security person within UMass? Wasn't there some kind of restriction on either the outbound or incoming calls? Thanks again, JM. Much appreciated. And good input, too. |

Hi all,
Speaking of phone calls, I remember reading on the old MMM Forum (or possibly in the excellent Hanson Express series on Maura´s vanishing by reporter Maribeth Conway) that there´s some kind of mystery surrounding the last known call that Maura made prior to her leaving the UMass Amherst campus on February 9th 2004. Apparently, Maura left some kind of message on the answer-phone service of that particular number, and if I remember correctly, it was being said that the person to whom Maura´s phone message was directed had "moved on". Has anybody here got some more information on the identity of this person??? Thanks! |
I don't know who the person was, but I think I recall having read that Maura either phoned or emailed someone in the nursing department about her absence. Not a professor or TA, but either someone in the nursing school office or a fellow nursing student. I think it was believed that the message was unrelated to her disappearance. It's something that should be looked at, but you'll really have to dig for it. Good question. |
|
Supposedly because West Point just wasn't for her. Not her personality type, I guess. Others may have far more knowledge or insight. |
|
Vague answer but here's something: In 2000, Murray graduated fourth in her high school class, and scored 1425 out of 1600 on her SAT tests. Promptly accepted at West Point, she spent nearly two years there majoring in chemical engineering before transferring to Massachusetts to study nursing. A self-reliant woman, Murray toughed out three semesters as a chemical engineer at the US Military Academy at West Point before deciding the Army wasn't for her. ... |
|
I just read that too where Maura allegedly called someone the day before she left and that police were investigating that call. This call and the one where she's said to be returning scrubs are supposedly separate. |
|
Police are also investigating a message on Maura's phone from a friend she talked to the day before she disappeared.

NOTES: About a CW who clocked out at 7 and sees someone about an hour after the crash scene 4 miles or so from his house......and he didn't see anything, ha!
Scarinza said a man, whom he declined to identify, was returning from a construction job in the Franconia area when he spotted a young woman matching Murray's description hurrying east on Route 112, about an hour after her accident. He not only believes the witness' information is credible, he also believes the man actually saw the Hanson, Mass., resident. "Based on the description of what he saw, we believe it may have been Maura," Scarinza said, referring to the witness seeing a young woman fitting Maura's description about an hour after the accident. "Based on the place and based on the time, there is a good possibility the person he saw on 112 was Maura." The man, who Scarinza said is a contractor, checked his work records and verified he was returning home from a job in the Franconia area the night of Feb. 9 when he spotted who he and state police believe was Murray. |
|
By the way, it's a half an hour drive from Franconia to CW home, the one across from SBD no less. "accident" sometime after 7. So for an hour and a half CW was done working and at 8:30 he was 4 miles from home seeing "someone" with a hood was it, rushing along, avoiding his gaze. He's been quoted as saying he didn't know if it was male or female, how crazy is that?

hope this link takes you to a news video of Maura, otherwise copy & paste |

Why is that crazy? Avoiding his gaze with a hood on at night. I don't know if I would know male or female. These times are better than the times I originally heard and would make much sense at placing Maura in that area. I always thought it was her but never thought that the times worked out correctly. No one seemed to be able to verify much of that information before. B |

Hello all,
Any more news yet about the Randolph, VT, case? This sounds most disquieting indeed. Returning to Maura, I most fervently hope and pray that her vanishing won´t prove to be unsolved in another 50+ years time. I´m thinking of the equally bizarre Paula Jean Welden case of December 1946, when 18-year-old Bennington College, VT, sophomore Paula Welden, of Stamford, CT, inexplicably vanished after taking a day-hike on the Long Trail hiking route on the slopes of Glastenbury Mountain a few miles east of Bennington. Her case remains unsolved after nearly 62 years, which is truly terrible. She had three younger sisters and was declared legally dead in 1956 in the absence of any kind of clues as for her disappearance. There is a summary of the case to be found on Wikipedia and a few other web sites as well. |
