Thinking about the possible connection to conn riv.

We still have these questions to ponder
- Her room was packed
- Her car wasn't running well and had not been driving it
- sent an email to professor about a death in the family
- didn't call her dad or billy
- didn't confide in a friend where she was going
- looked up directions to a place she knew likethe back of her hand - so the family says

..... so many unanswered questions.

Even if she was abuducted.......... there are so many other missing pieces - I would think that would not be there in a random abduction. Those are alot of coincidences.. Don't you think ?

How many young people smoke and don't tell their parents?
I know I did and I was also very athletic. So did my brother. My parents didn't find out for months if not more than a year.
Which is more likely, Maura was smoking at her car, or a serial killer was smoking at her car?

Honestly I havenít bothered thinking about this for years. In my mind, clearly she was escaping. The only question is for how long? Permanently or temporarily. And also clearly she wanted no help/interference from her family with whatever it was she wanted to accomplish.

At least those are my thoughts.

Well,on that note, it would not be ramdom. Maura being lured or singled out would seem more like it. Someone having access to the phones, her room, her ID card, maybe even her car. Someone either sharp enough to put together whatever crime, oe someone who knew her well enough to make it look like she wanted to run off and ponder life for a spell. That's what I think.

I always assumed that the neighbor was talking about the SBD though he was never mentioned by name.

Am I wrong in that assumption?

Somebody had stated they may have seen Maura at the MacDonalds that night. Was it because Maura's car was just like a car belonging to an employee there who just happened to be referred to as the town snitch?
Someone could have seen the car driving along and made a judgement call to stop it. Upon seeing Maura, what to do then? Just ideas.......

The room was packed if it was cleaned and not put back over holiday? Or maybe Maura did not sleep in the room, rather using it to keep things handy?
Lots of changes for a young person. Feeling at odds, being led into gaurdrails, if not attentive. Having to tell Dad. Calling Billy, more upset than just smashing the car......he thought so, said so. Next day not wanting to talk about it and then deciding to talk about it. My stance has always been blackmail, but what do I know>
Maybe she was running from someone, if not herself. People tried to make it a scene upon entering her dorm room as in oh my God, she left a note and wants to die.
And Mr Smith thought it was Fred driving, my, my. What's up wit that?

I do appreicatie you coming on. I know you talk to Petrit. From what I have read when he came on per your last request - he doesn't think his accident was linked. Have you ever had a feeling or thought maybe it was blackmail because she did KNOW who hit him ? and they were going to drag her into the mess. blackmail would be scary and as the saying goes - this could be for her life in shambles too..

Desperate people do desparte things.. not really seeing the future implications down the road.

Just saw this. Numero uno, I don't talk to Petrit. I did communicate at one time by email and while he was very helpful, I cannot say with any certainty it was even him. At the time, he said he had never heard a word about any MM, never heard of a fellow student missing person, never knew until he googled himself TWO YEARS LATER. He did come here as Petrit to take part in the forum. No one bit really and he said he was not coming back much anyhow if we did address him.
Do I think Petrit would be linked into blackmail somehow with regard to Maura? No. It's more likely someone had something on her or had something on themselves and Maura was trying to help. I could spin into 20 cicles on that note, but it's been said so many times and who knows.

Ok now as for this one. I heard it through the grapevine and so it might not be true. But it did make the papers. Whitewash, maybe you can recall for me. Kathleen had been quoted as being told that her sister may have been seen at the McDnlds. That's when i heard that an employee drove the same make, model and year Saturn, same color too and was the TS. The rest was my mind wondering how that could get a person in trouble too. IThat is if Maura was mistaken for that person, pulled from the car, whatever and on and on.

Wow, two red X's. I would be more interested in someone telling me when they look at that list of items, what it tells them?

You lie about a death in the family to escape school.
You use that death in the family lie to help so that no other questions will be asked by your school.
You donít tell the father about your trip.
You donít tell your soon to be fiancť about the trip.
You go with a vehicle thatís claimed to be unreliable.
You apparently didnít tell any friend where you were planning on going.
You apparently planned this for at least a couple of days.

So where does this reasoning take you???

I see someone who was desperate to get away and clearly wanted no one to know what she was doing, why, and didnít want any help to do whatever it was she was going to do. She says she was going to call Billy later that night. Maybe she was, maybe she wasnít. We donít know. Even if she did call Billy, that cell phone call would not give her position away to anyone who didnít know to look for her. No one she called would have been any the wiser as to where she was. And when she crashed her car she still proceeded to try to escape. Whether she got caught up in someone elseís snare because of her being so goal driven in this task, I donít know.

Bill,

Something has been bugging me for some time now so I am going to address it. Several months ago I want back and re-read every single newspaper article that was published during those first few weeks and months of Maura's disappearance.

I came across at least (2) statements made by NH LE that Maura stated in the form of e-mail to her reason for leaving school was a family problem (not verbatum but something more along those lines).

It was not until the Manchester Union Leader picked up the story did I begin reading the statement about a 'death in the family'.

I'll go back and pull up those particular articles if necessary but again I am not taking for gospel truth the 'death in the family' statement.

Thats fine, I think I remember this informaton from many years ago. I always remember hearing that she sent an email to her professors claiming "a death in the family". Nothing wrong with going over what we believe to be "known" information.

On another note I am unsure that what the specifics of what she used to get away makes much of a difference. The intent and the people she didn't notify were still the same.

Bill ~

It is unknown and unconfirmed whether she did, in fact, leave Amherst at all. Therefore, it cannot be stated with certainty that she planned to 'escape'.

By all appearances, it would seem she planned to leave, voluntarily.
However, it is unknown whether that leaving was to be a retreat of a social nature; and
1) it is unknown whether she traveled alone
2) if she was accompanied by another person or
3) whether she planned to meet another person at an unconfirmed destination.

1a) if she traveled alone, it is more likely she intended to 'escape'.
2a) if she was accompanied by another person, we do not know if it was planned and voluntary, or unplanned and coerced.
in the first instance, it would be an 'escape'; in the second, it would not.
3a) again, if alone, this might be considered an 'escape'; if another person was involved, it may or may not be considered an 'escape', according to whether it was in getaway in a romantic context, or even a getaway with a college friend.
if so, i cannot explain the silence of a female or male college friend.

The circumstances of the upsetting call would be telling, and would provide information about her intent.
The 'evidence' you present seems inconclusive, in my mind, as to her motivation for leaving, her intended destination, and whether she left Amherst at all.
Everything seems to circle back and around when the 'ifs' and 'buts' are considered.
