The New England culture is notoriously unfriendly until trust is established...which can take many years. It's highly offensive for dogs and humans to trespass. People fuss and argue about property boundaries, and will tear down rock walls as a retaliatory statement. LOL Now, who are we looking for to step forward? ;-) I hope you all live crime free - that is for sure.

And "who told reporters he was a Taunton police officer" is pretty sloppy reporting if that's not what he told them. Which you also know. Because you expect us to believe that unless it's in quotation marks, it's not a fact? Nope, sorry. Not happening. It MAY be sloppy reporting, but the fact that it appeared twice in two separate outlets leads me to believe that it was more of a case of sloppy speaking on his part. If someone says "I worked with the Taunton police department" and doesn't elaborate that it was as a civilian, and he's a relatively intelligent person with an IQ at least in the double digits, which by all accounts Atwood seems to be, he is IMO leaving the door open and hoping that people will walk through it. Not gonna convince me on this, WW. Sorry. I agree, keep it vague and hope that people will interpret it as you being a "real police officer".

Well that would certainly explain the name calling and disgusting things that have spewed out of her toward the NH residents over the years.

So true. And also FIT was characterized by a fear/reluctance to offend Helena/FM. This fear/reluctance put a stranglehold on all free and open discussion. Pike tried to think outside the box and they murdered him. They have his blood on their hands. I am dramatizing here.

We live in a town of approx. 5,000, like so many towns in MA, where there is a reasonable expectation and delivery of community, safety and lifestyle. Zoning assures some homogeneity, which also translates into communities of likeminded people. Living and working in major cities has been no less disappointing. I don't dwell on crime.

I have absorbed some of this honest feedback from people who seem to represent themselves and others authentically. I feel very badly for Pike. Bullying is inexcusable; it is a shame that he felt compelled to leave.

The Westmans were working on something in their computer room and went from window to window. Faith said that she had just seen Maura at the car 2 minutes prior, but prior to what?. Now, I don't know if she meant 2 minutes prior to looking out the window because she was on the phone in another room or what......She's the one who said she stopped looking when she saw her neighbor out there with "the girl". Someone else said that when the neighbor left, he didn't see Maura. So much for FACTS! We were told repeatedly that FW was peeling orange. I apologize to you Paris about the Twilight Zone theme song. I always thought it was used as a metaphor for the denigrating of SBD and the locals. Now you say he actually hummed it. I can easily imagine this occurring - a wide eyed local comes running up to SBD stating "she just disappeared into thin air" and SBD starts humming this tune. Rather appropriate if you consider the Betty and Barney Hill event which occurred on a rural NH road on 9/19/61. A road just like Rte 112.

I became friends with a young man in Vermont who told me Fred came to their door, talked with his parents and himself to help get the word out and find what they knew. He said Fred was polite, brief and it was not a bother to them at all. He was part of the forum for awhile until he saw that it went around and around, going nowhere. I don't know what name he used but he's on my buddy list and we chat from time to time.

I felt bad for offending you and anyone else who didn't get my drift. You know, his x had said maybe Maura was afraid of him because he's a big man....and he is. But there's room to say that Maura just walked up the road waiting on the other alleged tow truck that some woman was going to call for her. I read this in the first days, in the news and then never saw referrence to it again. Only Helena and one other person recall this too. Does anyone else?

Wowzer wrote: <quoted text> I only lurked on the old MM forum because I saw what happened to the few that dared to have a new idea or a different scenerio.. They were called "red herrings" and it was insinuated they were posting to change the direction of the scenerio that was being talked about at the time. The name calling was beyond cruel as were the accusations and local people's names and where they lived were made public. Wowzer, i too was a lurker (a silent observer, a fly on the wall) on Helena's forum and just reading your post brought back such bad memories of that forum. If a poster did not adhere to the party line they were soundly thrashed, ganged up on. They were made to feel that they were somehow complicit in Maura's disappearing. That forum was a classic example of group psychosis. It still leaves me with bad taste in my mouth.

Beth was contacted by Helena in the earliest days to come help with the forum, the so called FIT, investigators, sluethers, etc. Helena counted on Silkyboxer for many things, like searches, behind the scene stuff, what have you. Frank highly esteemed her too and has said he has a special place for her in his prayer box. Too bad Beth died, so much only she herself knew, unless her parents turned her notes, laptops, etc over to police. Beth kept most things to herself and only explained to me this one thing. The forum was mostly a place for PM's and putting ideas out there for people to ponder. If this is not true, I couldn't tell ya.

There have been many misconceptions of this forum but among the many, I never felt it was important to correct whomever was peeling an orange while watching the scene. It seemed silly given the overall tone.
Paris, I do remember that someone was going to call for Maura so I believe when she said AAA had been notified that may have been correct.

Paris, I sure do hope Beth's information was turned over to LE. She had valid and probably valuable information.

"getting back on track" is an expression i've heard many times. everything that happens here is very much "on track".

Well, I was just going to make a joke about the night crew coming on here but making light hearted comments like that are just a few moments we enjoyed on MMM that the site has been chastized for.
Alright, forget that remark. Anyway time for the night crew to take over here! Keep on keepin on.
