It was NOT linked - the only connection made was in the minds of certain people who wanted this accidental death to not be an accident but wanted for their own personal reasons for it to be a crime. Don't we have enough crime without trying to make accidental deaths into crimes.

Umass has a lot of students.......... Wouldn't you think that someone knew where she worked that would not have been asked to not say.. After she went missing - the talk of the campus would be -hey that girl who worked at X went missing... not every student could be asked to be quiet. Any locals visit each gallery and ask - did she work here? Relevent - I think absolutly - perhaps some stalker was watching her there.. You can't rule that out. That is a very important. This could be the person who ran her off the road. Disturbing phone call. I am watching you..........

Every once in a awhile tempers flare about Amherst...as to why it is avoided..or...why some think that some are...whatever....circles of anger about what we don't have....anything about Amherst. Helena started the original Forum in November 2004, and kept it going until October 2006 when she started the 2nd Forum that ended in July 2008. If I have counted correctly that would be 44 months. She, Norma and Lady Gray Moderated. The Forums had little, if any, information about Amherst, so we were left with what we had from the family, including Sharon. Literally all we had was the family input about what they knew, or allowed us to know... Unlike the new Forum by Advocate, the prior Forums were moderated, in the sense that there were some deletions/censoring. We asked questions of family and were answered..(sometimes) Anything Maura's family deemed unnecessary, or not pertinent was explained as such. All I am trying to say is that we do not have Maura's family input on the new Forum. We are only left with what we had from the previous 44 months of the family Forums. It is what it is. What we do have is private investigators who are trying, as well as,(last I heard) NHSP...?..and hope...for Maura and family. Shack the nuclear family had no interest in Helena's forum. They were very withholding of information. See my post somewhere above about how another family (Ray Gricar, PA DA) contributed to Ray's forum and cleared up a lot of misinformation

Suzanne --- Sorry if it looked like i just paraphrased your post! I started out just chiming in that i felt the same way... I was giving you a compliment - you said my thoughts better than I did and probably more tactfully than I did. I once visited Fernald with a group and haven't been the same since.

However --- it's gender-free, it sounds a little like what Alaskans or hunters might layer up with; it's a heftier, more materially-substantial-soundin g word than the prissy word "panties" which I refuse to ever use (I'm grimacing as i write it), because "panties" evokes pink and lace and wedgies and roll-downs and General Discomfort.(I worked under him at a job once.)(Oops -- poor choice of words.) It evokes adolescent males twirling said item high in the air on an index finger as a female jumps and tries to reach it. I hate that word more and more. Firecat and Quija I loathe the word panties, I find it prurient and .... well pink. I never use this word and prefer the genderless words underpants and better yet underwear. FC, beverage is a perfectly respectable word but I agree, moist is iffy, borderline.

When deceased - we all smell the same - so the dogs do not need a piece of clothing. They can actually smell the best under water SOME dogs are trained to be water search dogs. Also read the link I posted. It's a good basic primer, though not the link Beth provided.

See my post somewhere above about how another family (Ray Gricar, PA DA) contributed to Ray's forum and cleared up a lot of misinformation It was most certainly NOT a lack of interest. It was a level of pain that kept them from posting. The immediate nuclear family (parents, siblings) were and remain VERY interested in finding Maura, however that is done. But maintaining or even posting to a forum--even a monitored one that had much less random weirdness than this one (and I'm not talking about "differing theories" I'm talking about some of the out and out strange behaviour that goes on here!) is simply too painful for immediate family members and close friends. It's a kind of pain that none of us who have not endured the unexplained disappearance of a loved one cannot possibly comprehend. There is no closure, there is no healing, and every day is just like the first day, with no answers. It is not, I repeat, a lack of interest. "Interest" doesn't even enter into the equation. I'm talking about sheer emotional inability to cope with the project. The emotional toll on Helena, a distant relative who never met Maura herself (since I believe she married into the family after Maura disappeared) was enough that she ended up ill and in a coma for several weeks. It's not that they're "not interested." They just can't.

Dawn~ Seems the issue existed between the two forums, Topix and the "new" forum...and was related to pursuing the identities of posters ("luring" them, in fact) via PM contacts, and with the hope of identifying thru a valid email address. Apparently, it didn't happen...and the details after that escaped me.
I'd previously posted similar links about the subject before you resolved the issue.
Internet regulation continues to be a hot topic...and it's wide open to legal interpretation, with uneven application of 'laws' that are being defined.
In talking with a representative of NH, he/she would opt for stringent regulation, having been unmercifully harassed. I, too, completely understand this position.
It's too bad Fred Leatherman's veracity was challenged when he was telling the truth, given there are more who deceive and misrepresent themselves (right here!) than not.
It's will be interesting to continue to follow.

Before anyone thinks I'm slamming Advocator's forum, I did not and do not believe such action was taken...or that it was a method to secure such info. Amen

Katy Couric almost quit her job over having to utter the word "phlegm". I don't like the word "mature". Or "blossom" or "bloom", even though I could pass out from the beauty of a flower. Also "poignant" and "pert" and "intestate". WE OBVIOUSLY NEED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MAURA TO WORK ON. Just read a book by James Renner called "Amy: My Search for her Killer". Author and so many detectives had their lives changed by being involved in this case. So many suspects, so little evidence. Still, just wanted to say that it ended on a note of hope that, as Dawn was saying earlier, someday someone will tell what they know. Hey! The last time I wrote about a "relevant" book I got slammed (Shack, was it you who said, "And NOW she's telling us what to read?" That wasn't really nice, ya know?)

Oh, I'm constantly telling people what to read. Several times a week, in fact. (though notably my efforts on Thursday of last week and Tuesday of this went unnoticed and I ended up lecturing about an assignment that no one had bothered to do. Awesome.)

Snowy With all due respect. I have not lured anyone. I simply asked Johnny Bravado if he CHOSE to email me and verifiy his IP.
This was Johnny's choice. Plain and simple - no luring intended and he has actually sent me PM's and the email has never been brought up.
If anyone should comment on this it should be Johnny B.
Fred Leatherman has posted that he has forgiven me and we agreed to put that situation behind us. I would suggest others do as well.
If someone feels that they are being slandered ie: the Murrays then I think they have the right to take action. If it was my family I certainly would.
Hope that clarifies.

Curious
did anyone check past newspaper articles to see if any prof's at the college suddenly resigned shortly after she went missing?
