Don't know if you are right but, that is an outstanding guess. Bill |

Either that or it means I"m old enough to remember when you couldn't buy alcohol on a Sunday.:) |

He's living in Boston, according to the registered sex offender list I checked over the weekend. It was just updated on March 5th. Fred |

Judged: 1 1 This information was posted on the old MMM forum in August 2007. I have edited to exclude information not pertinent to the returned clothes: peripeteia wrote: Helena could you once again give the location of where Maura dropped off the scrubs?(snip) Anyway, I would appreciate the information on the name of the place once again, just want to make sure I have it right. scooter wrote: Peri - I've had the same questions/thoughts.(snip)(not to be anal but it wasn't scrubs she was dropping off, I believe Helena wrote it was an outfit not scrubs...no big deal but as long as we're trying our best to keep our facts straight I thought I'd toss that in.) Helena wrote: Scooter...thanks for correcting that. Peri...the outfit was left outside of a dorm room at UMASS Amherst...for the record, my son naps whenever he can at any time. He gets up at 4:30 or 5:00 a.m. most days and during the school year has some night classes...napping anytime in the afternoon is not uncommon. END QUOTE. Bottom line: The clothing returned was not scrubs (if it matters one way or the other) and was returned to the doorway outside a dorm room ON THE UMASS CAMPUS. The person with whom they'd stayed was a friend of Maura's ride to clinicals, not the friend herself (else how would she have given Maura a ride to clinicals, if she herself lived in Norwood?) I don't know whose clothes they were--the ride's or the friend's. |

Sadly, so am I. In CT the stores couldn't even be open except for stores like delis/bakeries. Bill |

Sales tax, tobacco tax, etc.
Liquor stores in MA are open Sunday if the store (or maybe the town) is within 10 miles of another state in which liquor is also sold. |

Judged: 1 I reviewed materials submitted to me by Helena Murray. Ms. Chaput was found fully clothed on November 22nd. She was last seen on November 15th, very close to the location where her body was found. I believe it's more likely that her body was missed during early searches rather than her having been abducted, killed somewhere else, and returned to the area from which she was abducted. This is not unusual. It happened in a case I handled in Pierce County, WA in the late 90s. State v. Guy Rasmussen. The victim was a 10-year-old named Cynthia Allinger. Ironically, a prosecutor employed by the same office that prosecuted Rasmussen was a member of a search team that practically stepped on her body without seeing it a few days before another search team found it. I did not see any reference to a sexual assault in Ms. Chaput's case, which is something that I would have expected to see if it happened, and this is one of the reasons why I cannot exclude her as a victim of the Connecticut River Valley Killer. This is the best I can do with the materials Helena provided. She did not have access to police reports and the autopsy report. Neither do I. Fred |

There is maybe a Sunday liquor exemption for resort areas, not sure.
I think Deerfield or Montague would probably be the closest places to Amherst to return empty beer containers on a Sunday. For what it's worth. |

Judged: 1 Since they were left outside of a dorm room ? We really don't know if Maura herself left them there either.......... interesting. I wonder who this friend is...... if she came forward.. |

Aha. Thanks. |

Judged: 1 1 1 I believe she is the same young woman who drove Maura to clinicals in Norwood, so yes, she has spoken to the family (and presumably the UMass police and/or FBI) Please note that I said "I believe"....not 100% sure. |

Judged: 1 1 1 The original list of probable Green River Killer victims compiled by the Green River Killer Task Force listed 49 victims. The earliest victim on the list was last seen in July, 1982, and the last victim on the list was last seen in late December, 1983. The Task Force assumed he stopped killing. They were wrong. He killed his last victim less than a year before he was arrested in the fall of 2000. They didn't realize he was still active because he started abducting victims from new locations and he dumped their bodies in different areas. Other than those two differences, his modus operandi never changed. The final list of 48 victims included women he killed after the Task Force thought he was no longer active. This experience causes me to suspect that the Connecticut River Valley Killer did not stop killing in 1988, unless he died or was imprisoned. If Nicholaou was the Connecticut River Valley Killer, I would expect to see a trail of similar homicides wherever he went after he left New England and, if he returned, I would expect to find another victim in New England. Nicholaou committed suicide in Tampa, FL on 12/31/2005. Chaput was murdered on 11/15/2001. Therefore, if the police look for evidence that Nicholaou was in New England in November, 2001, I believe they will find it. We don't know what happened to Maura. For all we know, she may be alive. If she was abducted by a serial killer and murdered on 2/9/2004, Nicholaou may have been responsible. I believe he was hunting for a victim in the White Mountain National Forest 26 months earlier, so I can't exclude him from being responsible for Maura's disappearance. I hope LE follows the same analytical approach and include him as a potential suspect unless they find conclusive evidence that he was in another part of the country when she disappeared. With spring only a few days away, I hope LE and the PIs include on their places-to-be-searched list previous locations where Nicholaou dumped bodies because he did that before. Fred |

Judged: 1 Agreed - because the cig adapter is down below by the gear shift. Even standing next to a car you could not see it unless it was turned just right. The cord could easily be facing down and you wouldn't even see a light... |

I asked earlier about MO for serial killers? It looks like this one could fit this case. Thank you for taking the time to show how all the pieces could possibly fit in this puzzle. Like you I hope she is safe. |
||||
Your expertise in showing how this also - fit another serial killer - green river murderer. Does give us a pattern on how serial killers operate. They can't stop - learn from the ones that we catch.
