I don't have to tell any of you that serial killers are extremely disturbed because that's obvious. I've spent hours talking to clients who were serial killers and, yes, I wanted to climb inside their heads and understand why. I listened to their stories and I will take their stories with me to the grave. Their stories are frightening, terrifying, disturbing, and disgusting. Most of all, I found them to be profoundly disorienting and everlastingly haunting because I cannot forget them. One of the main reasons I gave up practicing law was that I was too damaged to continue.
I needed to get back in touch with normal people and shake off the nightmare visions the way a soaked dog shakes off water.

Even if someone was sitting there using a plugged in cell phone that gets zero reception, you will not see any red glow IMHO unless the car was sideways, and it was not sideways.

Whiston: my point was and is why was the missing poster not updated with a clothing description of what the person at the ATM was wearing

Philip the police put the clothing description in the initial press release. If that was, in fact, what Maura was wearing, why would they change it.

Whiston: NOBODY knows if Maura went to N.H.Some people believe that the saturn never hit the tree and was parked or got stuck there.

While I agree that there are a few people on this forum who believe this, I suspect they are in a very small minority. Based on the fact that both the NHSP and the PIs have performed multiple searches in and around the ‘accident’ site, it would seem that they believe that Maura was in NH. I do believe that you would find far more people who, after looking at the pictures of Maura’s car, might agree that the car did not hit a tree, but that is the official word from the police. As to the clinicals, the information provided was provided by the person who drove Maura…it wasn’t information that was asked for, it was offered…what reason would there be to give false information?

Philip what you have never understood is that nobody wants to ‘send the forum away from Maura’s prior life” it has always been that those running the forum had nothing to offer in terms of information. As to Julie LaFreniere, where did you get her name in the first place, Philip. The only place I could find it mentioned was in this paragraph from a Patriot Ledger article dated March 9, 2004:

“One day, UMass track coach Julie LaFreniere introduced Murray to her teammates. Markopoulos remembered it as the typical, awkward group introduction.

At first, she noticed Murray was quiet and at times ‘‘elusive.''

Philip, I would wonder whether your calling out of the blue frightened Coach LaFreniere.

For the record, I also found these pages, Maura is mentioned as a runner for UMass on each:

Women's Track Roster
Maura Murray Jr. Distance Whitman-Hanson Hanson, Mass.

2002-03 Women's Track Roster
Maura Murray Jr Distance Whitman-Hanson Hanson, Mass.

http://umassathletics.cstv.com/sports/w-otrac...

This is probably the most useful page that I just found:

Adding to this:

Paris' observation about the direction the car is a very important observation.

I *think* it was assumed that a charger was in the car - because I *think* it was said that the phone didn't have a red light on it, requiring the phone to be in the car to have any possibility of being the source of the red light.*

But if this is wrong - I hope it will be corrected.

All we are left with now is a cigarette - and Maura didn't smoke.

Appearing in the police logs is Atwood telling the dispatcher that he saw a woman driving the car. This was before he was put in the spotlight.

Of the serial killers discussed thus far, all are men. For one of those serial killers discussed here to be involved - the situation that arose ended up with the driver of the Saturn being a woman that smoked - not Maura because we have been told Maura didn't smoke.

Even if Nicolou is dead - it is possible someone conspired with him and might be still alive, able to be a witness.

But what is most baffling about this case is that it seems to be pointing to Maura being out of character driving the Saturn - and the evil luck of serial killer and companion coming across Maura without being seen at just the right moment.

We also have a cell phone that never was detected pinging or used after the accident and a distressed, frightened, and lonely young woman carrying a secret burden she was unwilling to share with anyone.

Maybe she was lucky and encountered a good samaritan who helped her out and sent her on her way and she never looked back.

Maybe she was unlucky and she's dead.

Maybe she committed suicide.

Can anyone confidently say that we're any closer to a solution now than five years ago?

Scooter...thanks for correcting that. Peri...the outfit was left outside of a dorm room at UMASS Amherst...for the record, my son naps whenever he can at any time. END QUOTE.
Bottom line: The clothing returned was not scrubs (if it matters one way or the other) and was returned to the doorway outside a dorm room ON THE UMASS CAMPUS.
The person with whom they'd stayed was a friend of Maura's ride to clinicals, not the friend herself (else how would she have given Maura a ride to clinicals, if she herself lived in Norwood?) I don't know whose clothes they were--the ride's or the friend's.
thanks firecat, thought this was the scenario of events re: return of article of clothing.

Mcsmom mentioned something about a dorm to dorm voice mail, which Maura left, wondering now if this is the call to the dorm to advise leaving the clothing outside the room

Had never really heard about this call before mcsmom mentioned it... but perhaps she elaborated, as reading backwards as usual...out of sync.

exactly, doesn't make any sense that it was a cell phone light that was mistaken for a cigarette, how many hundreds of people do we see using a cell phone, at night, and have never seen where I thought it was a cigarette.

Just a question --- after finding out that there were several people in the area in vehicles seemingly "looking for someone" that evening, could the person who, with little apparent concern, sat in the open passenger-side seat, be one of the "searchers"? We know Monahan was in the area; we know a red truck driver seemed to looking for a particular person... it's hard for me to believe that the missing suicidal youth from Beckett was on a work detail after 9PM when his being missing was officially called in --- so I believe he went missing earlier and was being looked for earlier before officially notifying police and getting the school or boy in the official log until they HAD to. Just a thought that this guy/searcher pulled off the road and parked west of the Saturn, maybe made a call that he had located an abandoned vehicle, and smoked a cigarette while waiting for Cecil or another patrolman? Thinking this through, I don't know how it would fit with the doors later being found locked, but someone else might figure that out. I just can't see how a perp would sit there awaiting his getaway ride so cavalierly.

Here's a link to a rapist who was released after paying a $16.40 fine. He continued to rape and worse..... Makes my blood boil.

Teeny correction--Maura DID pack both a wall charger and a car charger for the phone. So it's known that the car charger was in there. Doesn't change the scenario, of course, but there it is.

It would not surprise me if all the nasty things that were said are made public someday.

As all of you know, I'm fond of Google Earth. Well, I just used the Ruler to measure the distance between the Westman's house and the accident. It's 80 yards.

A glowing red cell phone light would be nowhere near as bright as a cigarette and I doubt that it would be visible at that distance. A lit cigarette would be, especially when the smoker inhaled, because the increased oxygen flowing through the burning end intensifies the burn into a bright red pinpoint that would be easy to see at that distance even if you were in a well lit room in a house.

We mustn't forget that the back window was down.

The interesting question for me is what happened to the cigarette butt?

If the cops didn't find and recover it from the area outside the car, did they look in the ashtray in the car when they searched it the next day?

Wouldn't it be interesting if it's still in the ashtray?

Certainly worth checking. If it's there, saliva residue might still produce a DNA profile.

Could be the equivalent of a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.

I just noticed that the ICID - or also known as IMEI is on Maura's site - that is the serial number that will tell us the exact make and model. Her SIM card has never placed a call but the handset's IMEI is something else that could be checked. Simply put a different SIM card in the phone. Will let you know what Samsung has to say

I was curious about the "hockey bag" is this a term used on the east coast for a "duffle bag". Not sure how it works - do you pay a deposit in MA? In oregon you do but not in WA. You pay more when you buy the beer. Do we know who reported it ? did he hear bottles clinking together ? I would imagine it would smell like beer. Beer has a strong smell when you have a bunch of empties.

I smoke for a spell, quit and then back at 'em in times of stress. Mom has never suspected it however, so I can relate to parents not knowing. I have had to pinch a lit cig to put it out many times, and in the pocket it goes.

When I recall the quote about someone sitting at the car, smoking a cigarette,- and a man at that, I think Faith W-Man. I also think FW-man when she is later quoted as saying that she stopped looking when she saw her neighbor out there with the girl. So then there were two?

If it were me riding along with Maura, I'd be trying to get all of her things out of there while she runs ahead. If it were me, heck maybe I'd be backing the car into the snow and playing the part of Maura for the world to see. And yes, maybe smoking a butt. OR, maybe Maura is back in that truck or something, intercepted at a gas station while I and my partner in crime move her car until we get stuck and maybe I think something like SHIT, where did my wallet fall in this stolen car dammit, gotta get out of here NOW, as I also decide to grab the backpack. Why not? If committing a crime, why not make it look like the person walked away with their stuff and locked the car too?
