Police also noted that Murray had enough food and other items in her car to suggest she might be taking a short getaway vacation.

I would think that this is no brainer. Brianna and Maura led entirely different lifestyles. Brianna was likely abducted/murdered by acquaintances. She knew and probably hung around with the person(s) that did her harm. She was certainly at higher risk because of the people she associated with. Maura would have been in the lowest of risk categories with no known affiliation with that type of element so it is far more likely a stranger abduction or runaway or suicide. At least that is my opinion.

****
Beagle, i agree with Bill...if even for less concrete reasoning.
the greatest differences between Brianna and Maura seem to be defined by their apparent associations and lifestyles, IMO.
academics and athletics certainly don't rule out drug and alcohol use/abuse, but Maura's achievements more often than not involve focus and assume a certain level of responsibility.
Beagle and others may suspect another side...or view...but that hasn't been established, yet.
And you don't care enough about Maura Murray to even lift your little finger to try to establish it. It's VERY do-able. IF you cared enough...

ANYONE can find out enough information to blow this mystery wide open, but they won't do it, and LE obviously is not going to do it, so IF you care about Maura Murray DO SOMETHING!

There is a ton of conventional and unconventional information that is AVAILABLE for you and everyone to take to LE and say, "What about this?"

If you want a proper investigation, lay the groundwork YOURSELVES, and go to LE. But, all to tellingly, you don't do this. At all.

Being local surely helps, but that's not all that's required to make progress. Get off your ass if you are committed finding out what happened to Maura Murray.

There really does appear to be a connection between the untimely death of David Eliot Marks (born 2/23/1952) in Hadley, Massachusetts and the 2004 disappearance of Maura Murray from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

David Eliot Marks and Maura Murray appear to have had something troubling in common. Wish I could say more, but there are limits to what can be said on this forum.

The very snotty idea that Maura achieved sooooo much and therefore her focus necessarily excluded another side of life is simply the most elitist view imaginable. Your fences have walled you off from reality.
Ever hear of professional sports? You know, the very top level of sports? The very top level of sports that requires the kind of focus that was way beyond what Maura had in Feb 2004?
yeah, i have. i have some knowledge about the rigors of men's prep school/college hockey. NHL good enough?
i am also the mother of a daughter...and have had the privilege of being in the company of her friends, as well.
thanx for the "snotty" "elitist" and "uncaring".

I don't know about DNA - however - how could you come to the absolute conclusion - they are from the same person unless you HAD DNA and finger prints. If there was a bottle and a cup - that clearly suggests there were more than one occupant of the saturn.
I see a possibility that one person could drink from the bottle, the other drink from a cup, or just 1 person drinking from a cup that was poured into.

Here's some thoughts though.

Its not really practical to pour drinks while driving, into a cup - at least alone.

I could imagine a drink being pourded into a cup before leaving or at a stop - but I'd think it would make a better chance to spill somewhere along the way - in a lone driver scenario.

Two people in the car - drinks can be poured.

Now on the other hand.

Don't St. Bernard dogs have a bit of alcohol in a barrel on a necklace around their neck - so that if someone is found stranded - they could warm up by having a drink.

I mean it was reasonably cold up there - and the Alcohol could have been there for, amongst other things, to warm up. It would probably be cold in that car after it stopped. I wouldn't blame her for that. Especially if convinced she wouldn't be driving in the next few hours.

the whole point of The Major Crime Unit who is the main investigating team now.

WW said,
"Like or not NOBODY TELLS THE FBI to go away!"
**********
Your statement is correct, but incomplete.
The FBI will not officially involve itself in an investigation unless it concludes there is probable cause to believe that a federal crime was committed. If it decides there is probable cause, it may still defer to local law enforcement depending on the seriousness of the crime and its allocation of available resources. If it decides to get involved, it will assume the lead role in the investigation and it will define the role to be played by the state agency, if any.
The FBI is a federal law enforcement agency and it has no legal authority to investigate violations of state laws.
No law prohibits the FBI from assisting a state law enforcement agency investigating a violation of state law, if that agency has formally requested its assistance. Its authority to investigate always will be limited to doing whatever the state agency has asked it to do and the state agency can withdraw or revoke its request for assistance at any time.
Apparently, NHSP limited the FBI's role to interviewing members of the Murray family, which would have been a simple task of short duration.
Based on my review of a few cases that have been discussed here (Dow and the tent fire cases), I have a very low opinion of Troop F's professionalism and investigatory expertise. It probably realizes and resents the FBI's lack of respect for it and intentionally limited the FBI's role to a simple and rather menial task as a way of signaling its resentment of the FBI's attitude.

Search for missing woman expands to Vermont
By DAVID TIRRELL-WYSOCKI
Associated Press Writer
"After the accident in the Woodsville section of Haverhill, a witnesses said Murray asked him to call a wrecker, but not the police. Police were called and an officer was on the scene in less than 10 minutes, but Murray was gone."
Sounds like Atwood - but maybe not. Are we talking about two or 1 things, an amalogomation that leads to a conclusion?

<quoted text>Thank you, this is great info. How do I find the newspaper articles though. Ones taken down, etc....Google advanced is what I use most times, but I'm interested in expanding that now.
OK - so two tools. When you go to Google -
Web Images Maps News Video Gmail more

Click on News, then search. The reason why I suggest that over say Newspaper Archive.com is because Newspaper Archive is focused on Genealogy moreso then Newspaper articles - Genealogybank also has some very old articles as does some service provided with a NEHGS membership - but again of all 4 I have looked at Google News search has had more recent articles then earlier ones - but it does have a good link to the New York Times (aside NY is difficult to get vital records in bulk easily except for Ital Gen. Group) but I digress.

Paris - my suggestion is that you save yourself a ton of time by using Wget for Windows (yeah I'm assuming - but if you have a Mac I think there is also a port) Wget has a scary name but its easy to use if you can get to the command prompt and type in a few words - it does all the work for you - downloads everything.(Wget was made to create web site mirrors)

Wget http://NameofWebPageYouWant.com

After you have the mirror on your hard drive then use both sed and grep to search that local hard drive. http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/grep...

For each page you want to look at, you go like this:

grep -i wrecker Name-of-HTML-File.html

Say that one of the html files I downloaded had the name p326.html, then I would do as follows:

grep -i wrecker p326.html

In a few seconds Grep will look for the word Wrecker in the p326.html file, and if it finds it - it will display the line it appears on.

Instead of retyping the grep line for every page you want to search, make a batch file from with notepad, call it search.bat

Copy the command for each page and use find / replace to save time.

What I have skipped here is the removal of html files - but you'll need sed for that and some patience to expiriment and that may not be worth the time.

WW I've found a dandy way to survive thru any attacks.
With my coffee in the AM I eat a bowl of Wheaties(breakfast of champions). When finished I put my bike riding helmet on (good for knocks on the noggin). I then set a can of mace beside me and hold a big stick in my left hand.
It is then and only then that I turn on the computer and click on the Topix forum. Good luck!
